Actually Mike is a stand up comic, that is how they found him. He was doing a routine as the cool guy, so they added that character to the show as the straight man. Works brilliant.

When you have three strange and insane characters, you must have one straight man in the group to make the comedy work. That's one of the basics in comedy, there's comedies where one person is strange while everyone else is normal or one person is normal while everyone else is weird.

Mike also had some very good jokes, but his humor was more subtle and "challenging" than the others'.
