  • I will say this is one of the most feel good songs of all time!

  • feels so good ;] golden 70s

  • This is a great song..Always loved it from when I was a little kid. I love the verse when he says 12:45, awesome!!!

  • check out a great program on the spinners its called unsung u can find it on you tube

  • Henry Fambrough. What a f'n PRO. How he did that lipsynch without laughing is beyo.nd me. Deserved a special Grammy.

  • Okay I'm glad people cleared up that he was lip-synching because my head was about to explode. I was sitting here thinking that there was no possible way that all this time I was listening to a dude at that part.

  • I love the song "Games People Play" by The Spinners, because it has a terrific beat. I also appreciate the female vocal of Barbara Ingram, because she sings well. It wasn't Henry Fambrough's sped-up male vocal; it was him, lipsynching the female voice of Barbara Ingram, so it's The Spinners with Barbara Ingram.

  • The woman's voice on the song is Barbara Ingram... it is not the guy lip syncing it... nice try thought, I thought it was kinda funny.

  • Forget boy bands these are the ultimate!

  • In spite of the Stylistics and Enchantment this is clearly a woman! It looks odd seeing that man lip syncing!

  • The genius behind The Spinners success was the GREAT THOM BELL!!!

  • The song just kind of makes me feel good. Todays noise makes people want to kill

  • '1245 waiting for the subway home, so I took my time cause the bell was so along...not far away I heard found a sound sort, could see a thing...games people play , nite day they just cannot stop it. thinking of you, feeling really cool...and not to far ....

  • My Bad, confused the Stylistics with the Spinners.

  • For all you people saying its a female singing the part that sounds like a womans voice please listen to "You make me feel brand new". Fambrough just has a unique voice and is part of the great sound that is the Spinners.

  • I would gladly lip-synch to this song just to make about $500.00. Some of us have no shame.

  • Barbara Ingram died October 20, 1994 at the age of 46....In Camden, New Jersey, U.S.A.

What a voice this woman got! Rest In Peace Sweetheart!

  • Barbara Ingram...... She is the one singing!

  • 12:45

  • Ya'll fuss about who did the falsetto, this old white man's favorite singer in this one is Pervis Jackson who did the fantastic bass part. I have no idea who did the girls part but the salute Pervis who passed at age 70 back in August 2008. I my humble opinion, I think Pervis is right up there with Melvin Franklin, Paul Johnson, Paul Robeson, etc.

  • I loved the age of the Afro.

  • what the funk...I guess the dude is steppin in for dionne..ugggghhhh

  • Read an interview online where Thom Bell said that it is actually Henry Fambrough doing what sounds like the female voice in this song. Bell said they had Henry sing it and then simply sped it up in the studio to sound like a female. Not saying I totally believe that, but that's what their producer said.

  • Lovely old philly soul from the best sweet soul group ever. The female vocal on this song was, in fact, the late Linda Creed who co-authored so many sweet soul classics with Thom Bell.

  • The female voice is none other than Dionne Warwick

  • @clarkekent3000 That is NOT Dionne Warwick, it is the late Barbara Ingram!!!

  • Where do you get your info ?? Dionne Warwick was the onl;y female member of The Spinners !!

  • @TheRustone823 Dionne Warwick was never a member of the Spinners, she did a duet with them called Then Came You. However this is NOT Dionne on this song!!!!

  • @Msredhoney720 ---if you read my message to Briansong , i said " MY BAD , you are correct , it is Barbara " ...don't get all saddam hussien on me now ....

  • ....My bad, it's July 11, 2011. lol

  • ...Given the history between the Spinners and Stevie Wonder--Stevie gave them their first and only monster hit with Motown, "It's a Shame"--it makes perfect sense. So...let it be known that on today, July 12, 2011, Elizabeth C. of Madison, TN stated that it is my strong belief that the "female" voice in the Spinners' hit song "Games People Play" in fact belongs to Stevie Wonder.

  • ...Thom Bell has said that the female voice of this song was done by a famous singer whose name he would never reveal. So, as "Games People Play" is going on in my head, it's overtaken by "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" by Stevie Wonder. The second line of "Sunshine" sounds like it's being sung by a woman, but is in fact Stevie Wonder. Listen closely, and the "female" voices in these two songs sound eerily similar...

  • Ok, once and for all, I'm getting it off my chest and sounding off on who I believe is the elusive singer behind the sweet female voice. True story: back in February 2011, I was half-asleep in the car with my guy, on our way home to Tennessee from Florida, and "Games People Play" is playing in my head. And then, unbidden, another song by another well-known singer came on in its place, and my eyes kind of popped open in recognition...

  • damm, how did they come out with so so many hits in the 70s - games people play, could it be i'm falling in love, might love, it's a shame, then came u, etc. etc.

The Good Lord really blessed them with voice, style, rhythm and great personalities.

  • One of my favorite groups - one of the BEST!!!

  • Thom Bell (composer of this and many classics) is genius.

  • Another Spinners timeless classic. Love both Bobbie Smith, who sang lead on some of their greatest hits (this one, I'll Be Around, Could it Be I'm Falling in Love). Some people are only giving Philippe credit for 2 hits when he was the lead, but he was the lead on many more (Mighty Love, One of a Kind Love Affair, Rubberband Man, Sadie, Love Don't Love Nobody). Philippe is my favorite Spinner for the "soul" he brought and the way he brought each song home, but Bobbie was almost as masterful

  • WISH I COULD GO BACK AT LEAS T ONCE, TO SEE MY PARENTS DANCING TO THIS. I LONG FOR THE GOOD OLE DAYS. SIGH!

  • 2:08 Always my favorite part of this song

  • they could dance fo real

  • @briangsmooth I couldn't agree with you more. I remember watching the spinners do this song on Soul Train. I'm sure Henry Fambrough didn't mind lip-syncing Barbara Ingram's vocal.

  • I remember this song from when I was little in the late 70s, heard it on the car radio a lot

  • @Anglynn74 Exactly my experience. Would hear this before I knew who the artists or titles were, just "I like this song Daddy!" and sing along.

  • ahh yes ...when lyp synching was still allowed!

  • When Life Was Best Understood and the

    Simpler Times. Were Around Us.

  • MELODY!!! Where did it go?????

  • @oneluv72 : AMEN!!!

  • although it's a pitch higher than the original, they are still flawless no matter what.

  • the actually identity of the female voice on this song has never been revealed, Thom Bell wont say who she is, some think its his wife

  • @MotownMaster the female singer in this song is Barbara Ingram.....she died in 1994....

  • absolutely smooth WOW!

  • 2:07 Colt 45

  • ROCK... SCISSORS... PAPER... You the woman today!!! Gotta hate the luck uh duh draw! Great music though!!!

  • A true classic...

  • I love Billy Henderson!! Big men CAN MOVE!!!

  • @OohMitch And a little trivia here - LYNDA LAURENCE of The Supremes says he was the love of her life..! They were together for quite a while and you're right, Billy Spinner sure could make all the moves!

  • For what it's worth, Henry has recreated those parts live. I have to admitat knowing the history of this song & watching Henry smiling while lip-synching is hilarious. The next time that I see him, I'm going to have to ask him what he was thinking while he was doing it.

  • This could be the theme song for many a TV soap opera.

IMHO, CBS's "The Young and the Restless" should ditch their theme music in favor of this Spinners classic. Everyone playing a game on one another, and someone's always left holding the bag when it's said and done.

  • I'm embarrassed for the dude that had to pretend to lip-synch to the woman's singing in the song. But regardless, it's such a great song! I love it.

  • @Palpatin77 "I'm embarrassed for the dude that had to pretend to lip-synch to the woman's singing in the song"

The dude lipsyncing this song on Soul Train is none other than Henry Fambrough, one of the the most underated voices of the golden age of Soul during the 1960s and 1970s. It is Fambrough's smooth melodic falsetto that fronted classic's such as "Toni My Love" from 1976's "Happiness Is Being With The Spinners" and "I'm Riding Your Shadow" from 1977's "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow."

  • @briangsmooth G-d I respect people that know their music, that post was too hot, only group I know like that is Lennon/Beatles........ty for the trivia

  • @briangsmooth @Palpatin77 He's lip-synching the female part to the song, but he sure owned it in the performance! LOL

  • The " woman " was Dionne Warwick

  • @TheRustone823 No, The female voice is NOT Dionne Warwick. Dionne has a very unique voice, given her history with the Burt Bacharach & Hal David catalog, and I assure you this isn't Dionne's voice. The only songs Dionne did with the Spinners was "Then Came You" from the "New & Improved" Album (1975) and "Just As long" from 1975's "Pick of the Litter Album" which this song also appeared on. The Female voice on this song is the late, great Barbara Ingram from "Sigma Sweathearts" fame.

  • @briangsmooth ..you are correct my friend thank you for the correction ( feel like a fool now LOL! )

  • @TheRustone823 Anyone that knows anything about music, knows that is not , IDionne Warrick.

  • @briangsmooth you know henry fambrough sang that part he sang the same part when they were older so i dont know where people get that from and he also sang the part on could it be im falling in love

  • ahhhhh, I had always thought the part sung @ 0:54 was by a woman. Great song anyway.

  • Phylis Hymen sang the female part in the original recording!

  • @citygal226

Hi citygal, When this song was made in 1974 - 1975, Phyllis wasn't around yet. Her first work was with Norman Connors 1976 album "You Are My Starship". The female part of Games People Play was sung by the late, great Barbara Ingram. Barbara along with her cousin Carla Benson and friend Evette Benton form the "Sigma Studios" sisters, studi singers who backed a lot of the MFSB & Philly International hits of the 1970s. Barbara died tragically at the age of 46 in 1994.

  • @briangsmooth Thank you so much for that info. All these years I JUST KNEW that dude couldnt possibly have a voice like that!! .Lol!! But you know Enchantment had EJ who sang lead on "Gloria" and "Where Do We Go From Here". That cat had vocals like a female and could hit some serious notes! But I'm glad I ran across your correction. Thank you.

  • @citygal226 thans not Phyllis, she's one of my favorites and id recognize her voice anywhere

  • LOVED IT.

  • Why AM radio still exists.

  • Does it get better then The Spinners?

  • Almost all Soul Train performances were lip synchs of the original recordings.

  • That chic has a mustache!

  • I'm am so proud to be black.... We bring music to the world....

  • @rod11672000 and I'm proud to be a white boy that loves this music

  • Buckwheat sounds like a girl. His underwear or maybe I should say panties must be too tight.

  • i heard this song n my dentist office and i thought of this video

  • SING IT BILLY!!!!

  • I wish we can find out for certain that this is a lip syncing or not. I don't think Soul Train did that, listen to the clapping, and them clapping they have to be singing. Also it could very well be his voice. I wish we could get a confirmation from Don Cornelius himself on this video.

  • OMG, I love this song but the guy mouthing over the female part took me completely off guard... LMFAO, too funny!!!!

  • The guy doing the female's part is the one that lost that crucial game of Rock, Paper, Scissors that determined who would have to do it that night, that's all:)

  • Comment removed

  • With no sistah in the group performing this one live must have presented some challenges

  • What a shame today's music dont sound like this.

  • Awwww yeah....JHS 135 in da bronx...I'm back with ya when I hear this jam with my baby Awilda making out at her house til her mom was about to come home. um um um...what ever happen to her?????

  • The singer is Henry Fambrough , an original member, not a women. In other words its his real voice. Amazing isn't it?

  • @Knen62-the female voice is Barbara Ingram.

  • Miss this show. Everyone looked liked they were having fun.

  • one of the best shows that was, loved it.

i wanted to be on there too.

  • a really good song from a great group and really what band or singer dosnt lipsink on tv. rather have them lipsink and be able to hear the song loud and clear then them sing it live and it sound like shit.

  • Dude shouldnt have sung the womans part. just looked stupid when he did. haha

  • I see Oprah Winfry dancing near the stage!!! I believe she is wearing red pants and a pinkish blouse. What do you think? At 1:16 to 1:26 she is staring at the camera!! I'm telling you, it's her.

  • @Rock123 I think so too...LMAO

  • I see Oprah Winfry dancing near the stage!!! I believe she is wearing red pants and a pinkish blouse. What do you think?

  • 70s last decade of good black music.

  • oh my goodness that was funny because i read the comments first/ youtube comments are comediac gold!! lol

  • They were lip syncing but who cares. Great song. How long was Soul Train on? It was on forever!

  • I can just see them all in the dressing room like, "Well, SOMEbody has to sing the girl's part." And then dude is like, ".........................that's fucked up, ya'll." LOL He looks like he wanted to laugh at first, but c'mon Soul Train! That's hella bootleg

  • @djsweethots I wish we can find out for certain that this is a lip syncing or not. I don't think Soul Train did that, listen to the clapping, and them clapping they have to be singing. Also it could very well be his voice. I wish we could get a confirmation from Don Cornelius himself on this video.

  • That was Henry Fambrough singing the high part. Thom Bell said that he sped up

Henry's voice to make his pitch higher. He sure was feelin' it though! LOL!

  • @esseen100 well he should of just let him sing regular--he has a mellow voice

  • they could of at least hired a lady to stand in the back with a cold mic to lip sync.....but they didn't even bother to do that!!

  • Nothing like Soul Train in the 1970s!

  • The male lip syncing a female vocal was hilarious! I needed that laugh.

  • When I saw the beginning of this video and saw just men on the stage I wondered how they would perform the female vocals. It is amusing. Yet this is a great song.

  • here we gooooooooooooo...........

  • to think at one time a very very long time ago this was hip, fresh and actually MUSIC people were feelin- REAL music- not the dumb down Bieber, Jones Bros wad of turd we have to deal with today

  • What a great era of music

  • I remember listening to this song when i was a kid, it was one of my favorites. For some reason it has been sticking in my mind all day. Glad it was on here so I could listen to it.

  • LMAO-That's a DUDE!? AHAHAHA! (Good tune, I like it.)

  • @JACKTHETRIXTER LOL!!! I had to look it up, too cause I was like "No way!". It's actually Barbara Ingram who sings that part....

  • classic Spinners......

  • Love love LOVE the Spinners...smartly dressed, beautiful Black men singing timeless songs!

  • I thought that was a woman singing, too. I just can't believe that's a man!

  • @antij1 It is a woman's voice on the original song - Soul Train just used the guy from the Spinners - The voice was Barbara Ingram

  • The dude with the mustache singing a woman's range. LOL.

  • this is what you call music

  • KLAJFKLJAHAHAHAHAHHAKDAHKLD AT THE LIP SYNC!!!!!!!!

  • for anyone who missed it "those were the days"

  • He having fun with the ladies part...sweet!

  • @marvelstryfe you should probably consider killing yourself.

  • hi you need a with lyrics cd transfer

  • LOVE this song!!!

  • Hey dudes and dudetts...there were some great music in '75...black or white...this song was played at least 10 times in a day on pop radio in '75.

  • @terrystud99

Yes, in the carpool going to swim team practice back then, I remember it played all the time. Love that song!

  • He's singing Dioone Warwicks part? LOL!

  • hell we grew up with some pretty cool music ,,,,,,SWEET ♫

  • this is music

  • R.I.P. Pervis (12:45) Jackson...

  • i love this song..makes one heart feel good

  • What a sweet 70s memory, thanks...

  • Ok, The title said the guy was lip syncing and the recording was female but you still have to admit when that camera hit him and he started singing singing the woman part, that was funny. I knew that had to be a woman. I've heard of false setto but that couldn't have been that guy. Still laughin.

  • @ccalll1 he did the best he could

  • the singer has a high pitched voice and

it is not a woman singing. It does sound like one'but

    its not.

  • @handsmlake - WAS it a woman's part....or just a part of the song that called for falsetto?

  • @handsmlake

There is no woman in this group.

  • @handsmlake ....LMAO!!! I can't believe he sang lip sync that! LOL!

  • @ccalll1 What DIFFERENCE would it have made ANYWAY!!!!! This is EXCELLENT music that I will always ENJOY and APPRECIATE!!!GET OVER IT!!!!!

  • @ccalll1 its not a woman, its actually that guys voice but when they recorded his vocal track in the studio, they sped the tape up to make him sound like a woman. if you listen carefully, you can actually hear that it sounds fake, but it was really well done. pretty funny though - it was really stupid of them to dub the studio track over this song, they should have just let them perform it live.

  • @ccalll1

If you see them in concert Henry actually sings that part. It sounds better in my opinion.

  • @ccalll1 LOL! iDied! Too funny!

  • A true fact!! Thom Bell admitted that he took Henry's voice and sped up the tape on his vocal part. Definitely not a woman singing that part.

  • @rwyatt26 You presumethat they had the technology back then to do that...It was Barbarah Ingram who sang the female parts

  • @handsmlake Actually, they did have the technology to do that. Many bands were experimenting with speeding up and slowing the tapes on songs back in the 70s. Case in point - 10cc's "I'm not in Love"

  • @rwyatt26 A true fool!! Read the posters info -(click on the down arrows for the full comment.) It would sound like the Chipmunks if they just sped it up for one thing, for another, as it's been pointed out: IT'S BARBARA INGRAM.

  • @rwyatt26 No no, That why I'm here, to see her face, you know, that girl? That's a real mind fart this morning. no no, please, say its not so.

  • @rwyatt26

    100% incorrect.

  • @ccalll1 Was it really?

  • @ccalll1 look at them singing years later

  • You all have to forgive me but everytime they showed that guy with the lady sounding voice, I'm just busting out laughing, I mean I can't stop laughing. I tried to watch it again but still, I started laughing. Great song, I remember this when I was a kid and always though it was a woman singing, even though I didn't know the lyric, we still tried to sing it. Come on now, yawl know you made up the wrong lyrics to this song. Instead of saying 12:45,you know you said" it cold outside"

  • Man I hated this song when I was a kid... NO I LOVE IT!

  • Love the song, but I always assumed it was a woman singing that one part.

  • love those spinners--make u feel good

  • this TOTALLY RULES

  • great forgotten classic...

  • SMOOTH and COOL!

  • Barbara Ingram looks different than I expected!

  • @BurtFurnace exactly!! lol

  • dude that one guy sounds like a chick! like no joke

  • Just a great classic from the great Spinners!

  • this song is sweet!! the man with the woman voice is just wrong though.......

  • @lLambsie

If you read the longer version in the description from above, it TELLS you that the song was recorded with a female vocalist. Bands that appeared on Soul Train, Hullabaloo, Dick Clark, etc, did not sing, they all mouthed the words from their album releases- they weren't singing, nor, if a band; playing.

  • @lLambsie

He must have drawn the short straw...

  • one of the best of the spinners love soul train too great tunes!

  • Looked like a white Spinner in the back round I'm just sayin'.

  • classic 70's

  • Hit #1 soul, #5 pop in Billboard. RIP, Phillipe and Pervis. God bless!
