the vq30de's and the vg30de are best engines to come by in my opinion they have very low maintenance engines and great throttle response..my max just has venom injectors lighter flywheel some tunning and its at 253 hp and 259 ft lb at the wheels o and intake and a glass pack lol till i get my headers in and nos

I have a 02 Altima 3.5SE...(vq35de) 5 speed...anyway, my question is, i found 350z vq35HR cams for cheap on ebay...if i swap my factory DE cams for the HR cams..will i notice a difference in power?? or do you have a suggest for better power gain. all i have now is a short ram intake and cat-back exhaust and a B&M short shifter....i would appreciate some advice or tips! thanks in advanced!

Very,very ambitious project. I've seen VG30e maxima, with Stillen Body kit and turbo added, similar to early Nissan 300ZX motors from late 80's and early 90's. But I'VE never seen the 5th generation motor added to the 3rd generation car. The wiring alone must have been very, very difficult. There is no weight advantage to the older model, why transplant the new engine to older car, instead of adding turbo to VG30E ?

@alexnds1 This 92 Maxima weighed over 3400lbs stock with driver. Now it weighs 2600lbs with driver. There isn't much of a weight savings by going with this AT 3rd gen compared to a 5th gen, but I've had this 92 Maxima since 2001. So, I didn't want to scrap it in exchange for a lightweight Sentra or something. The wiring isn't too hard if you take good notes and have patience.

I think the 3rd Gen, having independant rear suspension, coil packs, instead of Distributor and ignition coil and a very powerful DOHC engine was ahead of its time and in some ways was superior to 4th gen, with twin beam axle suspension. SOHC motor a torque monster &still used in PathFinder was used in Mercury Villager. Had mine modified, to some degree:

@xlTxManx I know Jim (aka Jime), his fastest NA time is a 12.3. Our car does 12.0s consistently and is being set up right now to run mid/high 11s NA this winter. So right now, this is the world's fastest NA Maxima. It's also the fastest NA VQ35DE as well, Sentras, 350z, and G35s included.
