Why is this song so extremely unknown and therefor underrated?
It's absolutely beautiful! I first heard it when I was 4 and it's still one of my absolute favorite songs, one of the greatest songs ever in my opinion!
It is no important if this is or not a DP tipical sound. The sound of '70 is end. When Blackmore is gone out from the band, that sound is end. This is a beautiful song and it is not important if it does not like a DP classical song. Morse is a different guitar player and therefore the new songs are very different, but I like them as well.
Agreed. And I have to say one thing here - Ritchie Blackmore may have been more creative, more innovative, definately a bigger ego. Definately an AWESOME guitarist. But Steve is better. In terms of precision of playing, articulation and whatnot. And being a Purple fan for years, as I grow older I find myself liking morse-era DP more then ritchie era DP... And it's just my opinion, to which I am entitled just as you all are to yours... :)
I saw Deep Purple in Oslo, without Blackmoore. It is not Deep Purple without him.. Morse is a fine guitarist, but for this band, no. -Combo DP will allways be the only DP! But ofcourse, the concert was fun, with Don Arey replacing Lord.
Idiot?
Naah I don't know. I might have misread it, because I remember that I read it from the back of Purplexed, which has songs from the battle rages on, so I might have read the writers of the wrong song :/
The song in question was Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming, which is the Knocking At Your Back Door riff. This tune Steve played for his son Kevin when he was small.
Not in my version of 'Purpendicular'. 'Watch The Skies' from the 'Abandon' album was a song left out from the 'The Battle Rages On' album, and was reworked with Steve, playing in a Blackmore kind of way on it. Not the 'Aviator'. Totally new song back in 1995, I have the readio recording where Paice, Steve and Roger play an unplugged early demo of it, titled 'The Highlander'.
its a shame you dont here purple do this stuff more often but its like every one wants to hear the classics like smoke on the water as much as there gd songs they cant compare to this awsome song one of favourites
Stop discussing, if you don't like DP without Blackmore why did you come and post on this video? I love DP with and without RB, Steve Morse is a superb musician!
I agree with you, mattdif... I've been thinking about Deep Purple for a very long time. The result was, Deep Purple is the best band on the world (because of lyrics, music, preformances and also because of the depth of their music, as you said). And I don't know, why they aren't so famous as they rate to be...
The great Steve Morse in a cage here, but a very good song!

@KGuitarH And in addition to that, it really tells what a great hobby flying is. To get away from all. To be only you and your airplane.

Doesn't really sound like a purple song.

You know, this song was acctually made by BLACKMORE. Believe it or not. It reads so in Purpendiculars notes.
KazilTheDarkeye 3 years ago
no from what i hear all the songs from "Purpendicular" album was work from steve morse.
what does "aviator" have to do with ritchie blackmore? steve morse is a pilot.
this does not at all sound like a song from ritchie blackmore, this sounds more like the steve morse band.

Your lips will get sore from kissing his ass so much...he's good...but not as good as you seem to think.

I was joking dude, if anyone thinks he's better than Blackmore, they obviously have no regard for the forefathers of rock lead guitar.
