The money could have gone to fixing healthcare (public option or not... it's still expensive and frustrating). The resources and money could have helped our infrastructure and preventative design (natural disasters etc. look at katrina).

I suspect continuing U.S. involvement in Afghanistan involves three goals: 1) capturing and killing top two Al-Qaeda leaders for purely symbolic reasons; 2) preventing Asian energy independence through pipeline politics; 3) permanent military bases. No. 2 is close to dead now (China has just recently won that conflict). No.1 may possibly be justifiable but is dangerous and risky both for the Afghans and coalition troops.

I wouldn't go as far to call them traitors. Mike Gravel (back in the day) pissed a bunch of people off when he helped remove the draft during Vietnam. Nader helped lead into regulation and safety protocol for automobiles (basically we have seatbelts in all cars because of him). They're all not perfect men, but I doubt they wanted to commit acts of treason. Their information can be double checked through some research and historical documents.

very true. If it wasn't for the revolution and civil war, we wouldn't be in the same country as today. BUT, ask yourself what kind of war was it? To gain independence? Well that's not the reason we were in Iraq and Afghanistan (although we said to spread democracy and peace... bs). Was it a civil war? No. It was overseas, and was more about foreign policy.

Just by saying that war forms great nations and so forth does not make it a necessity nor does it justify it. Many nations fought for basic rights and independence. These wars are brought on by conflicting interests and greed for resources. Diplomacy beats violence as war is only a temporary, but permanently damaging, solution. If you shoot a guy, you won't be bothered by him... but that still makes you a killer.

the money the government used for war could have gone to fixing our education system (which would spawn more intelligent people perhaps). The money could have gone to fixing healthcare (public option or not... it's still expensive and frustrating). The resources and money could have helped our infrastructure and preventative design (natural disasters etc. look at katrina).

What we know is, that our chancelor spoke in the Parliament about Afgha in September 09, and media has it, that she was not informed by the Ministry of Defense in that regard? No. 2 is close to dead now (China has just recently won that conflict). No.1 may possibly be justifiable but is dangerous and risky both for the Afghans and coalition troops.

You can't solve problems with the same level of consciousness that caused the problem. Solving political corruption by electing new corruptible people to work for the system seems patently absurd. It's like joining the mafia and converting them to the united way

I'm willing to bet that most of the children commentating here that are just taking pop shots at Obama to get a "told you so moment" probably don't really care to much about the anti-war / peace movements.

Obama is the most remarkable piece of proof that some other entity is in charge of the US government. It's hard to believe a President could be such a blatant liar. Usually they're more sneaky about it but his campaign rhetoric is now rather obviously all lies.

Over 600 groups are uniting to stage a peace rally in DC March 20, 2010. Kucinich is currently working on legislation to bring the troops home. liamh2 here at youtube has several videos, Kucinich included, of speeches at the peace rally held 12/12/09 in DC. The gathering was small, but with 600 groups uniting, plus the fact of warmer weather, March rally should be significant!

Not that many people showed up, but those that did gained something priceless and they became members of an invaluable human movement. The movement for peace and justice can't be counted by the number of supporters it has, it can't be judged by the strength of its army. Peace just is. Justice just is. Those two concepts are everlasting no matter what. They are our human goals and it's time we embrace them.

Uh no dumbass. Nader isn't in Congress and Gravel hasn't been in the Senate forever. He was there during the Vietnam era. Look up the Pentagon papers. As far as Kucinich and McKinney look up their records. McKinney probably didn't based on her progressive agenda but not sure about Kucinich.
