Robin Knox Johnson, Nigel Tetley, Bill King, John Ridgeway and Chay Blith are from just about the last generation of Englishmen who had balls. Today, an Englishman with the lion's roar is a rare thing.
And hats off to Donald Crowhurst for trying, just a pity it went the way it did for him.
His boat survived all that time . At the end he seemed sure , the boat would survive. He was still a man with a conscience.Or he would have sunk the boat. RIP . Now he would have gotten publicity for faking the trip.He just couldn't see anything positive that he still had , his family and his health. I think the loneliness got to him and his pride..
Donald crowhurst is like a legand down ear in teignmouth devon i grow up wid the story often wen we were kids we ould take our boat owt and pretend to be im (godspeed) es in davey jones locker (only 4 specal men xxxxxxxxx
this is the classical human story. who of us hasn't gotten caught up in something before we're completely sure of the outcome. we get swept along by the current, and before we know it, we're in over our heads. this is the story of a man with great dreams, but we all have great dreams. this one was just a bit more dangerous, but it could be the story of anyone with dreams of greatness.
The Strange Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst. Yes I had read parts of it too.
It is possible that he was murdered or abducted. Yet.. maybe he did end it all.
Who knows? It would make a good story either way.. I think he lost his mind and jumped off the catamaran. He was keeping an hourly count on what he was doing. He was like a computer near the end. He lost his mind.
You got any proof of that? I read the book written about it ("The Strange Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst") and there is no suggestion of abduction, pirates, murder, etc...and they had full access, as far as I know, to the logs and wrtitngs and charts left on board. Of course, there are bad things that happen to sailors at sea, even today. What pooof do you have as I would be interested to hear it.
I saw the film the other night, I have yet to read the book. I think it is sad, he could not cope with the situation he got himself into. Look forward to reading the book.

terrific film, tragic story.
what comes through are some of the respectable days runs he made in his trimaran...a nearly double handed trans-atlantic
journey, no small accomplishment at all.
rip donald crowhurst.

One of the most fascinating stories I've ever heard- Donald Crowhurst is like a character out of a Shakespearean tragedy. Rest in peace.

This is bullshit!
This man was a normal guy, he couldn't commit suicide. I don't like when someone's putting the story from his personal way.
We should better ask Director or Screenwriters about - full access to his logs.
I'm not the only one, who knows what happened there.
This Guy was a legend- stop poison his legend.
He was a victim of crime, which he never did.
He was abducted.
Just like hundreds of others.
Why don't you make a movie about them?
This is absurd!
