Do I need to set the jumpers like on the old drive? I just replaced the old hard drive and now the Mac don't see the drive. Should I have left the jumpers on master? Thanx
@seanboiles You have to re install the operating system, Mine already had Tiger on it so I was fine, but I did wipe it and put leopard on it later on.
@leenev1 To install it, you have to remove the logic board and insert it into a port on the underside of the board, then connect the bluetooth antenna. As for buying one, eBay would be your best bet.
@leenev1 Any size if its 1Ghz+, if its a slower/older model then it will read up to 128Gbs of storage space, you can insert a larger drive but only 128Gbs would be recognized.
Note: Dynex Thermal Paste is available at Best Buy for $9.99
Also *** When taking out (additional) RAM that is loaded in the baseplate, BE CAREFUL, I instantly snapped off both of the guides on the side of the RAM, and had to affix tape to the RAM to keep it in place after the upgrade. ** DOH **
@iPhoneCloud I bought my thermal compound off of eBay for $1 w/ free shipping, though it took a while to arrive. As for the RAM, since I had previous experience when it came to swapping out ram modules, I knew how to properly swap out the DIMM and no damage was done to the machine. Though I don't have this machine anymore, I sold it to buy my PowerBook G4.
I heard that the casing actually serves as a heatsink...so when you crack it open, and then go to put it back together, any thermal compounds or special things you have to do to it to ensure the heatsink continues to work correctly? Or am I totally wrong?
i really like ur vid and im guessing that u kno ur way around the inside of a imac g4. well i just got a imac g4 and i opened it up there were 2 wires disconnected and im wondering where they go i think they are coming from the disk drive but not 100% sure is is ok if i make a vid response to ur vid to show u and see if u can help me
if they are single (black wires i believe) then they are supposed to be disconnected because they go to the bluetooth card that you have to install yourself since the iMac G4s didn't come with it.
If you are still not sure, feel free to post a video response and I'l be sure to help you to the best of my ability. - Archon

Hey!. Does this mac have hdmi? Oh,a dn btw, where I can I look for a good 1.3a HDMI cable? I also live in Canada
pvbt11 2 years ago
@pvbt11 This machine does not have HDMI out, there may be an adapter for it, look for a Mini-VGA to HDMI Adapter if they sell them.
As for HDMI Cables, I'd check a local wallmart, they run for about $40 for 4 feet.
