for some reason this came up as a result when I googled "Columbian Necktie" in google images (pretty f!#@^ed up right?) but the cover made me lol so I looked it up and it's aight.
fucking WOW. i heard good things bout this album, it has good reviews, so i listened to this cover and HOLY SHIT it just sounds like a horrible monotonous noise
Remember when I bought this album, the girl behind the counter said "interesting title" I said, yeah, but aren't the best songs about fucking? We dated for a couple of months, and yeah, we listened to this record while fucking.
you can all kiss my shiny white hiney. I saw them twice. They were the best band in the world at that time. I have seen over 4,000 acts and they rank in the top five! All time! They played The Model twice! at the show in NYC, The Cat Club. I want to say '89 or '90.
This album changed my life...I was still remember exactly where I was and what I was doin when I first heard the LP...sum 24yrs ago...I was 13yrs old :)...ty...forever in your debt
can someone explain why they like this shit? it sounds like im listening to some local band with static on their end. but seriously, help me out here and tell me why its good.
@gsboss Actually, this is a cover, and it's one of Big Black's lamest songs. Check out "Kerosene" or "El Dopa". If you don't like those, then I guess you don't like Big Black. Also, you should know that Steve Albini (guitar/vocals) was (is?) really into being abrasive and confrontational, which is reflected in the sound of the band. He has since done a lot of producing (Nirvana, PJ Harvey, etc.).
that's why people like it. because of the trashy sound, which nonetheless sounds tight. you tell me why you like perfectly produced bubblegum recordings.
@gsboss: Think about it this way: Kraftwerk wanted to sound like an eerily cold, efficient, mechanical band. Big Black are sort of the same in that sense, working More as a gritty, rusted, klunky machine. The style of the song transfers excellently from one style to the other.
Yeah, as much as i love kraftwerk and krautrock in general, this is quite simply a monster of a cover. Dripping in sarcasm, it's a completely different song.

It was neither, Kraftwerk was Kraftwerk. If you had to put them in a category both new wave and synthpop are later fads. If anything they were motorik or kraut rock.
i was using the album cover as my wallpaper for a month just because i thought it was hilarious - i didnt know they were such an awesome band! im such a N00B
Saw them live in '87. They invited the audience over for a barbecue two days later....Too bad the barbeque was in Chcago and the gig was in Belgium. You can't always win ;-)
I liked the original version of The Model but interestingly i've heard Big Black's version many more times. I think it wipes the floor with the original. I wonder if you can download it on itunes? I'll check. Would be good to blast it out for the first time in centuries!
@Kraftwerkfan2 I don't know. I love both, really. I admit to being very very drunk right now but I have to say that they're genius but different. The bass on this piece is crushing. The song itself is Kraftwerk's brilliance and no one can deny that.
Better or worse, I love them both. Peace to you, fan.
fuck kraftwerk

@ChocolateNinjaStar no one stops you from listening Kraftwerk, but pls, at least don't listen to Big Black.

@anonimoitaliano Why shouldn't I?
ChocolateNinjaStar 1 week ago
@ChocolateNinjaStar you just show a bad taste. stop over rating those commercial bullshits like kraftwerk.
anonimoitaliano 1 week ago
@anonimoitaliano
So Steve Albini obviously has bad taste seeing as how he covered a song by Kraftwerk which means he probably likes them to some extend.
