  • this is why I'm happy as shit I never graduated from being a pot head :-P

  • tremendous version here on r&r animal.

    stands the test of time.

this is actually TRUE rock and roll, and for many reasons.

great guitar work across the whole album.

this far beyond what mr. reed is capable of and yet...

he did it, it exists, it always will and it will always be intense and insane as rock should be.

  • The entire spectrum of Rock and Roll emotions comes together in this performance....

  • I would have to say that I prefer The Velvet Underground version than this one, but still amazing vocals and songs.

  • Loved playin lou reed in the old days (specially bein high lol)

  • I love This!

  • I used to play this album almost every day after school and play along on my 12 string.

  • I loved my druggie days. I have no regrets. I knew of the consequences before i started and blame no one but myself. Even though i was wasted most days, i feel not a single day was ever wasted.

  • @hidepuller2008 druggie days???? As in what kinda drugs and for how long.

  • @6Rik6 just about everything but heroin. thank god in new zealand its too hard to come by. dont get me wrong drugs are evil and took me to the darkest moments of my life. but i believe evryone only gets one life so i decided to make the most of what there is and not worry about the afterlife if there is such a thing.

  • Great song, even i don't promote hard drugs. Just weed and psychedelics.

  • nothing touches this version for Lou. The dynamics are crazy and the intensity of the vocal can not be approached. Intense, genuine and fuckin' cool.

  • Heroin is great at first---but is hell once it's an addiction--& the thing with it is you can't take it or leave it--it's all or nothing--My sincere advice, to those who wish to take my advice, would be leave it alone--Keep away from it...Friends Ive lost, Shite I put my family through----None of it was worth it--I hope someone-even one person THINKS before trying after reading this......It's NOT as Glorified as it's made to seem.....

  • @tamerswan I saw him Live in Dijon-France--years ago..Me & a mate would travel through Fance grape picking--then spend 6mnths South France in SUN--with mates we'd made--Beach Parties everynight--excellent times---We were passing through Dijon, & bought tickets to see him that night--We had a brilliant time---Blimey, that's a longtime ago now..... Hmmmm .....

  • Great Song. Thanks!

  • still love it....but the pull of the old days is so strong

  • @995macka same as mate---I know exactly what you mean...however long--the gut tugs whenever you think of it--I got clean--been clean a while now---but that familiar 'tug' happened listening to this--Smak--Gives you Everything, Then takes it back--& leaves you addicted & f*ckd-until It just become a daily Battle in your head to keep away from the stuff.....

  • this is me to a tee , how sad it will end with this flavor.................but lou you are ONE of the greatest i've ever heard................no guilt thank you

  • Back in 75' Rock and Roll Animal was the album--working-class dogs on their way to college. The absolutely best live rock album ever recorded--guitarists and bassist are of the first rank in any universe. Did see Lou a few years later at a small club in Connecticut without the first team--and he seemed drunker than I was--if that's possible. But hell, Lou is Lou!

  • You tube just dont know.

  • i just dont know just where i'm going.... just makesme feel like im a man when i put the spike into my vein, and i tell ya things arent quite the same and i feel like jesus son...... lou reed forever....

  • after almost 40 years of being in love with this legend I am eventually gonna see him perform in Wolverhampton......once that is over I just wont care anymore.

  • This song is much more enjoyable then the actual experience...(.trust me on this) .............Still Lou Reed was & is one of the greatest translators of emotion into music.

  • His best album...

  • I'm probably one of the only people in my high school who knows who lou reed is, i'm 17 and he is most definitely one of my hero's, i wanna see him live so damn bad!

  • @drifterboyy93 unbelievable but it is reality, my grandson of 17 years does not know Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin .. or perhaps we are old?

  • @pignanelli65 I am 51 and my on and off girl freind is 31. She dosen"t get into the music I like The who, led Zep or loeu reed. She likes tecno club music. However tommorow hear in Bosotn we are having eartjh day. they are featuring 4 new bansds likew atomic tom. they are new kinda of like grung but to me it is the new rock and i like it. there will be about 50,0000 people tommorow mostly college kids but I aam looking foerward. I can forget about being old for a moment in time

  • @pignanelli65 Educate that boy!! :)

  • Lou Reed was one of the highlights of the '70's and Rock n Roll Animal was the highlight of his career. Thanks for making my life a little better Lou!

  • either way lou was and still is brilliant---when the smack begins to flow then i really dont care anymore---was just part of his life then and he shared it with us all--hes phuckin brilliant--a tru warrior poet

  • This is part of the pathetic part of Lou's career - he was a speed addict and instead of helping him his management put a superb collection of studio musicians behind him and sent him on tour, addled by speed. Rock N Roll Animal is precisely the same and thereby ranks as perhaps the most repulsive musical work ever constructed. If you morons can't tell that Reed is methed out in this footage, you're blind.

  • @TybeeTed in fact this is one of the best live albums of all time. And by footage I'm guessing you're referring to the solitary still photo of the album cover. Personally, I don't know what he was on (but the song title is kinda like a hint). I sure as hell know what I was on.

  • @TybeeTed This live album has one of the finest intros that I have ever heard

  • BEST LIVE ALBUM EVER...

    ALL CAPS!

It's kinda funny how much better this album is than the velvets and also how he plays none of his solo song.

  • the deep dark hard sound of rock n roll

  • sincitygirl is correct, this version of the Velvet Underground played on Alice Cooper's Welcome to my Nightmare LP. They also toured with Alice in the mid 70's.

Rock n' Roll animal was an epic release, one of the best live rock recordings ever.

  • @rioblancoman None of the musicians on this album were considered part of "velve Underground"

  • I have made a very big decision...I'm going to try to nullify my life...sad reality after the ride.

  • whew..this song ..thts version? one of ten all time best ever ....maybe theee best ever rock n roll song............whole album ten stars ...ten bieng best

  • @kurt10063 drunk? lol me too..

  • whew..this song ..thts version? one of ten all time best ever ....maybe theee best ever rock n roll song............

  • can someone please explain to me why I cannot get this song out my head? i know it might be the Michigan guitar players and/or Lou Reed. 24/7 I hear this is my head, and do not do dope.

  • "You all can go take a fucking walk" The story of my life!!

  • The story of my life!!

  • I guess that sometimes......I just don't know. I just don't know.

  • dugydip2662 as a user i tell you dont mess with this stuff put a whole in your health and your pocket just dont even try it it is the devils dandruff

  • Anyone who's burned that bridge knows just how beautiful and sad this song is. Listen up kids: There is nothing glamorous or cool about being strung out and dope sick. It can take years for your brain to reset itself, and those are long, painful years - if you live through it. I know that nobody thinks it will happen to them, but it sneaks up on you, and then it's too late.

  • there be some badass shit going on here.

  • SOUL-SHAKING

  • He's just CLASS! You can really feel the emotion in every single second, it's raw cause he's been there, you know?

  • I bet thousands of people are like me,listened to this song & decided to try heroin at least partly because of it. A seductive & beautiful poem about Madame Poppy! But hey, I'm not going to fault Lou for that. What people do after hearing it is their own responsibility. He wrote a great song, if perhaps over-romanticizing of opiates which can be fine to take occasionally(no dangerous IV thanks!)but get very boring fast once addiction sets in. Lou & I know being clean feels much better!

  • Its still THE Same????

  • so, you guys know where I could score some H??

  • I've never done heroine, but Whenever I hear this song I swear I just go into a trance. I'll call it ear heroine.

However, I promise if I ever Do try heroine, I will throw this record on.

  • @peerpressure1999 Lou Reed would not appreciate that

  • is amizing all the instrumental line

    speacilly the bass one

  • Lou Reed's band is The Velvet Underground.........

  • @sincitygirl1966 That WAS Lou Reed's band in the 60's, the band on this recording is the same one that backed up Alice Cooper on his 'Welcome to my Nightmare' album, quite different to the Velvet Underground, a radically different arrangement

of these songs...by Steve Hunter & Dick Wagner

  • @GalaxyHorse what was the drummer's name of Velvet ? is it Moe Tucker?? she played with Half Japanese on some stuff it was cool and his friends band was named Velvet Monkeys....she was in HJ's doc. its on here too look up if you like them, different form Velvet but good

  • @msnikish

    shame she's a douche.

  • one of the greatest albums of all time

  • Wow! lol

  • The most incredible live recording yet......stands up to anything.....

  • One of the five best recorded performances in Rock history. Easily. Who needs the dope when you have this?

  • purtroppo non ci sono VIDEO di questi favolosi concerti di N.Y.C. (Howard Stein's Academy of Music)

  • After all these years (bought the album on its release), I can still feel Lou's euphoria and despair.

  • I have mad a very big diciion

  • This is the shit. Literally . I survived it all. 1974? I was 18.

  • @1catsready

I was 2 years old in 1974... and fighting a heroin addiction

  • ...and I feel,,,just like Jesus' son.

  • time to adjust that volume knob.

  • hEY ... i DONT know where i'm Goin but gonna ttruy like I'm a man// go

  • HEY I GOT U ALBUM .. I DO KNOW...

  • I love this album, and im glad its part of my record collection, this is probably my favorite version of heroin besides The velvet underground and Nice version

  • @skovie23232 i mean Nico

  • @skovie23232

Did Nico sing somewhere on the original?

  • @MrLeagueOJustice I believe she tried to sing it in demos, but lou reed specifically wrote "I'll be your mirror" and "Femme Fatale" for her to sing and only sing. So on the album Lou sang, but in some lost demo nico had sang heroin.

  • @skovie23232 Well the anthem would belong more to her anyhow because she didn't know when to get off the horse

  • Magnificent, poetic, poignant. Still brings tears in my eyes

  • i got this on vinly, love it !

  • i wonder

    anytime i heard this song

    how many yunkies and xjunkies

are doing the same as me

  • @ Morrisribadeo2 voelen hetzelfde aan, man

  • i suppose it's as likely as not that there's a good chance that i just really don't quite know.

  • You stated that statement very well....

  • well thank you. tyvm.

  • @MaximusRelaximus

Yes....I guess I just don't know! simple but brilliant too. who really knows?

  • and I guess that i just don't know

  • was not from watching 70's movies, but lived them and that is what is killing me now

  • our need

    for something,anything

    other than reality

    well say

  • be the life of rock

  • sagizanne - You have seem foo many '70s movies man.

  • I've always thought this is such a brilliant statement about our need for something, anything other than reality. "I've made a very big decision".. "I'm going to try to nullify my life"... "I'm going to reach for the kingdom if I can". Amazingly gifted poet.

  • His absolute best!! This album was worn down I played it so damn many times... All my friends were still rockin but didn't know quite what to think of this one...LOL... But they came around! I no longer use - thank God - but this LP was like the closest you could come without it. And as sagizanne said "amazes me still"!!

    Craig

  • amazes me still

  • I understand. My brother knew he was gonna die. The dealers killled him and the cops did not care as they don't do know. They will kill ne soon and I dont even do drugs

  • i feel like ik 19 again so kool

  • @rifferlou

it's my wife and it's my life !!!!

  • @rifferlou -

    yes, 21 again. Attitude.

  • Only the line up he had for this gig could do justice to this song. Lou had a lot of good backing bands, this this one was stellar!

  • thank u

  • @1999wharfrat like who? just asking....

  • lou reed is so fucking sexy...i masturbate to him all the time.

  • Dont use too much!It KILL you

  • Comment removed

  • @GalaxyHorse Why was this comment removed,,,I love this song, it speaks to us all, regardless if we have taken Heroin , or not.

  • i have this on vinyl. its my favorite version of this song..

  • i miss something,when i heard this song je

  • In the movie "The Doors" is this song also playing just in another very cool version in the scene were jim morrison meets andy warhole.

If anybody knows from who it is pleace let me know!!! I think it was lou reed singing just to another melody which was from sweet jane i think. (i know my english is bad sorry for that!) : )

  • Panattan: You are incorrect that it isn't a Lou Reed song. Lou Reed wrote it in 1964. Just because Velvet Underground performed it didn't mean it wasn't his song. You really should look it up on the internet. Try to Wikipedia the song "Heroin". You might get a better answer and improve your research skills.

  • @1999wharfrat Lou Reed was in the Velvet Underground. He did write this song and sang it on The Velvets first album,The Velvet Underground and Nico, produced by Andy Warhol. The album with the banana on the cover.

  • ive been lookin 4 that too

  • no don't look for it as you will kill many around you

  • i'm love it so much

    this is a fukin symphony!!

  • it´´s amaizing

  • You kick ass for posting this video.

  • I really love this song....The arrangements, bass, the drums combined with the original melody makes this a masterpiece atleast to me

  • one of the most influential albums of the seventies around where i grew up....everybody was listening to this despite the fact it was NEVER broadcast on radio....what a great lineup of musicians.....the whole album is freakin' unbelievable....

  • Thanks a hell lot mate........I got fed up for a few months since this song was removed from youtube....But I feel lot better now
