Sega: With every new ripoff *cough* new game/gaming system we make, let's make Nintendo's original counterpart look bad...They'll be bankrupt in no time!

    *20 Years Later*

    (Sega knocks on Nintendo's Door)

    Nintendo: Hello?

Sega: Can we borrow your gaming systems....

  • Too cheap for LSD? Try hitting your head with a squirrel.

  • hey randy!

  • lolfrankie.

  • It's Frankie from Boy Meets World... I know he was on My Name is Earl too, but I never really watched that.

  • @DGENERATIONEXUS its him wow O_o

  • I felt like this guy 8 years ago. I could kill myself for losing the game...

  • @Sybnios Hey, do you remeber? Gamegear and gameboy wasn't like today's handheld. You have to buy a whole new set of battery each time they dried up; gamegear's battery not only had shorter life, it also need more than 4 battery, so it was very costly. I rember i ended up buying rechargable battery and a charger, but, I can tell you, at the time they cost very very much and thery duration was always shorter than normal batteries...

  • 0:28 Did he say Portal 2?!

  • TVTropes, thank you.

  • "When Lord?! When the hell do I get to see the goddamn sailboat?! "

  • Lawl PS Vita Commercial

  • lol this commercial always made me laugh. but honestly it's astounding how many perfect games are on gameboy, and how even sonic wasn't that fun on game gear.

  • @fheisk Sonic 2 for Game Gear is legendary and so under-rated by the mass! Truth is that Gameboy had some pretty gems but visually Game Gear was so better playing games.

  • @sybnios It wasn't better at playing games if you want hours of gameplay! Game Gear had very short battery life and it takes up more batteries! That's why the Game Boy won because it had longer battery life.

  • @Patrick19833 I didn't see any win.. Sales don't mean anything to me. I had both and for me Game Gear was more fun. You could play 4 hours straight and with another 4 spare batteries you could play 4 more hours, total 8, in the meantime re-charge the others. I never had any problems.. And you have your AC adapter.. No problemo at all!!

  • @sybnios AC adapter ruins the point of it being portable though. The entire point to handhelds to play them anywhere you go! Gameboy did won. That's why Sega left the portable business and systems altogether! You know why? Sega lost!

  • @Patrick19833 haha you are so obsessed with winning and losing. Dude you have convinced yourself that SEGA "lost" and you miss the point! The point in videogames is FUN! And I had/have so much fun with SEGA consoles. I also do with NES which is the best Nintendo console btw but everything you said besides the AC adapter is not true cause I never remember my self playing more than 8 hours straight with my portable console and if you did then what can I say Gameboy was more fun for you!

  • @sybnios Yeah I know, but that's what the majority of people want! Most people want longer battery life! I don't play games for 8 hours straight too, but We are in the minority! So longer battery does help! I am just telling you why the Game Gear failed.

  • 0:28 Portal 2?

  • How sad. "We're in color!" How stupid do they think viewers are?

Or more appropriately, how stupid were viewers?

Not saying the game gear sucked, but this commercial was ridiculously immature.

  • @RaustBD You take things too much seriously.. That is bad for you.. The commercial ROCKED!

  • Shame all the GameGear Sonic games sucked

  • @IwubMaiColettie

Well IMO it was hit-miss. The good games were Sonic 1, 2, Chaos, and Triple Trouble. Labyrinth was terrible and so was Sonic Blast LOL!

  • @IwubMaiColettie Take a better look at the Sonic games especially Sonic 2!

  • @sybnios your point?

  • @sybnios pff.. It seems that you don't wish to spent some time re evaluating something that maybe you under estimated.. my point is that the Sonic games on GG didn't suck especially Sonic 2!

  • was it legal back in the days to show other brands in commercials?

  • @MrMethadrine haha legal.. As time passes laws becoming sadder than ever. Actually everything as time passes becomes sadder.. Videogames, music, movies, humans.. everything!

  • @sybnios i feel sad now.thnx.

  • When, Lord?! When the hell do I get to see the god damn sailboat?!

  • Omg, ethan suplee, how cool:)

  • 0:28 It sounds like he said Portal 2.

  • you cut the end offf ass hole

  • OMFG it's Randy Hickey!

  • So this is "I'm a PC/I'm a mac" 20 years ago.

  • OH YEAH? THERE IS NO EASTER BUNNY! lol

  • Ethan Fucking Suplee?!?!?!!!!

  • So this guy got high by playing game Boy and hitting himself with a dead raccoon? WTF?

  • i miss my game gear.

  • man can kill somebody with this. Just htrow it and blame. System is not even broken. lol

  • ITS NOT WORKING!!!!! i hit myself over the head with a skunk and...... nothing

  • LOL, Now 3DS will have GG games xD

  • Where can I find Mortal 2?

  • i used it for tv tuner mostly =D aww makes me miss first grade

  • HEY EARL IM ON TV!

  • Woah... I remember that commercial :D

  • That actually wanna make me get a gameboy, with the mario music at the beginning and all! Good ad!

  • Do you guy's Have any Idea who this Kid is? He's the actor Ethan Suplee Look him Up on wikipedia

  • @ScorpionMkYTP I knew it! thanks for confirming.

  • @rhodes1986 I liked him on Klerks eve though he wasn't meanchened in the credits

  • @ScorpionMkYTP Yeah, he was in American History X, Remember the Titans, and The Butterfly Effect

  • hehe randy must have stolen the game gear from earl.

  • Why the heck does everybodys recording of this stop at the part where it says Sonic Triple Trouble?

  • that is the biggest insult ive seen

  • lol this was funny

  • o god, yes it was in color, but that's where all benifits stop. It's almost barbaric to compare 6 golden coins to ecco or sonic triple trouble (no seriously the game gear games sucked big time)

  • I think the fact that it lit up was just as important as the color. So I could play it under my covers when I was supposed to be sleeping "Mommy noooo!"

  • AHAHHAHA look at the shitty gameboy graphics compared to the game gear, lol wtf where nintendo thinking back in the early 90s lol

  • @tom3999 They were thinking battery life...

  • @tom3999 gameboy could fit in ur pocket >:D

  • @tom3999 They were taking into account the fact it was a portable system and thus people actually wanted their system to last a good 10-20 hours. Whereas the Game Gear lasted about four hours on six "D" batteries. And that's pretty much what killed both the Lynx and the Game Gear.

    It's not always about graphics.

  • thats the big dude from my name is earl...randy

  • Was that the guy from my name is earl, and american history x?

  • @JayGB87 yep and "Boy Meets World" & "Remember The Titans" and some other shit lol he still looks the same

  • Full colour? hahaa

  • Surprised their asses didn't get sued

  • @SamuraiGhost63 Those were nicer, more primal times. Remember the infinite consoles capable of running atari games?

  • they guy said mortal ii, wtf?

  • The game gear needs an nuclear plant to play for over an hour. And the game boy also has to endure a barrage games much more interesting games and more

  • And dont forget "Tuna" from "blow"...oh n yeah batteries and gg were not happining

  • maybe a mistake by sega was including the competition in it's tv ad's.

They made Nintendo look bad so to speak, so people would say.. hmm if Nintendo sucks this much, man i should see how bad it is for myself.

Just like when someone talks about how bad a movie is. you watch the bad movie for curiosity sake, to see how bad the movie would be.

Sega should have just focused on Sega and not worry about the competition.

  • is that ethan suplee????cool^^

  • At least u can have the gameboy in your pocket.

  • HOLY SHIT!! Is that Frankie the Enforcer from Boy Meets World?

  • Ah ah Randy from My name is Earl xD

  • @NoNickNoKick omg i thought he looked familer

  • you asshole you (cut end) bich

  • i need a mic spam for tf2 this will do it @0:05 - @0:08

  • @DragonZord90

Well, the Atari Lynx was even more ahead of it's time, but there are problems with going too far. Namely price, battery life, and size. If you think about it, GB launched first, was packed in with a killer game that appealed to many people (Tetris), fit in your pocket, and was cheaper, along with having lots of familiar games like Mario, Mega Man, Castlevania, etc. The only real trade off was color/backlight and I guess people back then were more willing to deal with that.

  • @dunnono00 Don't forget about a far louder speaker too.

  • @DragonZord90 ok.i don't care at all about you.instead of insulting the gameboy, insult the atari lynx

  • right buy a color handheld game that had only one good game

i might as well go and buy those handheld game thingies that had one game with moving objects in one never changing scene

  • @DragonZord90 who cares about your opinion.the gameboy was the only game system (i think) to be introduced in the toy hall of fame.and the game boy was the best selling handheld out there. and the gameboy lasted for 10 years, and it had a wider variety of games,AND it had mario, zelda, pokemon, tetris, kirby, megaman, and tons of cool video games released, and the game gear had only 150+ games, while the gameboy had +700 games.

  • @darkraitrainer590 Correction, the Game Gear had a little under 400 games released for it.

  • @dunnono00 well thanks for reminding me.btw you profile pic looks like some guy is holding up his middle finger.

  • @DragonZord90 the gameboy had better gameplay, though.and the battery on the gameboy was better too. and the gameboy had the most addicting game ever, TETRIS!

  • he hits himself with a dead squrriel?

  • the gg wouldve been so good if it wasnt plagued with its battery problems

  • the fat boy is from My name is earl

  • We are the titans the mighty mighty titans

  • holy crap its Randy from My Name Is Earl xD!!!! this so fits him :P

  • If they did a commercial like this today there'd be so many lawsuits that they'd go up your ass

  • It seems ironic how I got this video in the "Suggestions" section the sqme day I bought one of these.

    AND MORTAL KOMBAT :D

@DragonZord90: Nintendo made a backlit Gameboy called a "Gameboy Light", but they thought it might not be successful, so they only released about 50,000 (estimate) in Japan.

  • Ethan Suplee of My Name is Earl (Randy), American history X (Seth) fame, Kevin Smith films, etc.

  • lol its randy

  • *Whuppa* .........Whoa...Colours.. LOL.

  • WAIT... is that the brother from "My name is Earl"?

  • Gotta admit. Pretty funny. But Sega did have to pay homage to nintendo. Hey. MARIO Land 2!

  • Super Mario Land 2 >>>Sonic Triple Trouble, imo

  • sega allways dissing nintendo in their spots but in the end they lost 10 years ago and now nintendo is back and nr 1again...loved sega before saw all these us spots but now theyre just bad loosers....haha

  • good vid

  • Game Gear: plays games in color *and* makes you thin?

  • aint this the guy who is in the movie mallrats.....

  • Haha, its ethan suplee from "My Name Is Earl"

  • Dang! You left out the squirrel shouting SEGA!

  • im gonna get one for my 13th birthday on may 11 for 20 bucks at vintage stock

  • is that randy form my name is earl

  • ahhh i remember those...

  • dear lord he was monstrous

  • HAHA! Ethan Suplee is in this!!!

  • game boy is shit

  • Im suprised he is able to SEE the screen

  • I still remember this commercial. LOL. Thanks for the upload!

  • I can't believe thats Earls brother! lol I mean, he let himself go even more! Who's the other guy??!! ROSIE O DONNELL??!! LOL

  • It's funny if you think about, the Game gear commercial's are the exact opposite of the how sales real went. Nintendo punched Sega down to the bottom by a huge margain.

  • 150 games which will eat AA's like nobodys buisness..love the GG but its so fragile..

  • @CursingSasuke

I remember getting scared when the red power LED started to blink.

  • Why are the batteries even a problem? If they last 5 hours per use doesn't that imply they would last a 5-hour road trip without being replaced? @CursingSasuke

  • @CursingSasuke Lol, I forgot how it took 6 AA batteries. I always played mine plugged in.

  • Portables are supposed to be for when you do not have access to an electrical outlet or TV, like when on a road trip... the batteries are supposed to last 5 hours, and road trips are not usually that long @CursingSasuke

  • Rather biased :L

  • too bad this thing costed like a million dollars

  • That guy was in evolution and my name is Earl I have one of does I don't even use it

  • that fat kid is that the fat guy from the series My Name Is Earl????

    Greets from Holland

  • @fockjouw I thought he sounded familiar..

  • Yes, this is Randy Hickey ;]

  • Lol!! Lol!! :D

  • no es el gordo de mi name es earl fijense bien

  • it's randy, earls brother

  • I have both (although the Game Gear was purchased 2nd hand years later). It was too bulky for comfortable gaming and eats batteries (so I'm not sure why they used the hungrier, larger kid first), but the sound and graphics were great. As the years progressed though the GB overtook technically (though the battle had already been won).

With the Wii it makes me proud to be a Nintendo fanboy for 20+ years now. They always win in the end and force others to imitate (N64 analogue stick?).

  • The analog stick made its debut way back with the Atari 5200. Admittedly, Nintendo made it mainstream with the 64. Though it should be noted that Sony's dual analog setup was something Nintendo adopted with the Gamecube...

  • @stevehill4 agreed, look at it now,ps3 and xbox are trying to imitate motion controls.

  • What's funny though is that I had a game gear when I was a kid and went back and played gameboy after pokemon was released (so the opposite as you), but I still love nintendo way more than Sega.

Nintendo was and is just better at making games .but I have to admit that game gear was way ahead of it's time, nintendo only recently caught up.

But who cares, like I said, nintendo just does their thing better

  • gosh when i was a kid playing with my gameboy i wish i new that existed

  • this a very old gaming piece of equipment but the graphics are great

  • eso era para demandar al sega

  • thats that guy from my name is earl lol

  • Yeah he also was in Boy Meets World

  • He was also in Remember the Titans and Butterfly Effect lol

  • don't forget he played seth in american history x!

  • gameboy > gamegear

  • It had better graphics than gameboy but that batteries never lasted. It had some pretty bad ass graphics for it's time though.

  • kkkkkkk

  • I always thought it was funny how sega always insulted nintendo and yet nintendo always came out on top. I would've respected sega more back then if they didn't do that cause to me it made them seem whiney. Ah well I still like the Dreamcast but the Game Boy line is #1!

  • ethan suplee

  • I always thought it was so funny how Sega went out of their way to try and insult Nintendo and their players. I only ever played Game Gear when I could plug it in a wall since the six batteries had no decent lifespan, which in my experience limited its status as a portable system.

  • Mortal 2? As in the #2 that can die?

  • as opposed to immortal 2

  • as opposed to super mortal immortal 2?

  • @gn1coolts lol!

  • I went to the thrift show the other day. The clerk showed some kids the game gear and they said what's a game gear. I feel sooo old now :(

  • ditto

  • The fat kid was the guy on my name is earl!!!!!!! i looked it up!!

  • i thought he looked like him lol

  • yer he was also in remember the titans

  • wow, way to chop off the best part of the commercial to include your shitty little ego-stroking text scroll.

  • @lolKbgTgm6621what Yeah the dead squirrel saying "SEGA!" at the end is hilarious!

  • @lolKbgTgm6621what I agree - I've conditioned myself to ignore those anyway.

  • Sega "Univeral" Historical Society?

  • Comment removed

  • I loved my game gear it was better in graphics and color than the game boy even the game boy color that came years later. That was a shame for nintendo, they came with the gameboy color and the game gear came first and it was better. But the problem with the game gear was sega lol.

  • EL problema rige en el mercado, en una portatil lo q se busca es abaratar costos y portabilidad, el game gear es mucho mas grande que el gameboy aparte usa 8 pilas aa vs 4 del game boy, la gente se termina adecuendo al bolsillo.

  • It's the guy from My name is Earl and The Butterfly Effect!

  • he is randy from my name is earl !!

  • Three words that best describe this ad: Wat The Fuck?!

  • game gear sucks dick

  • "mortal 2." gg.

  • Gameboy had better games then Game Gear. Just look at the sonic games for it.

  • Really?

  • @TheMoogleMaster they are alright sonic games.

  • that fat POS was in The Butterfly Effect

  • I knew he looked familiar.

  • Familiar like your mother.

  • LOL, No I don't think so.

  • he was also the bully from boy meets world
