  • anyone ever get the "broken ladder" quote in this movie? it reefers to the DNA ladder-

i thought that was kinda clever cause they dont really explain the quote as they (and most other movies) do when makeing other quotes like "god child" or "degenerate"-

they leave you to figure out what it means and idk.. wana know if anyone else picked that up

  • This makes my heart jump for some reason.. when he puts her hand on his chest. Ah, I love this movie.

  • 0:36

I just want to point out that 10,000 beats equates to around 2 hours and 42 minutes, give or take.

  • @Francium5 Hahaha! I learned that just the other day.

  • does anyone else think that Ethan Hawke looked insanely handsome in Gattacca? LOL or am i the only one? :/

  • did he said his heart bits were too far/??? i mean his heart had already beaten a lot, so how can we control oru heat beatings.???

  • CAL POLY :DD

  • i like this part :)

  • Не се опитвам да изнудвам или да си тръгвам .Не храня лоши мисли

  • O mi film Gattaca, tu eres un falso criminal!

  • 0:35 10,000 beats overdue? average beat per minute is like 60 BPM, so 3600 beats an hour and his heart is then 2.7 hours overdue?

  • Comment removed

  • This movie should seriously be nominated for Oscar and in my opinion it should win. IT'S THAT GOOD! I first saw this movie in my AP Biology class in High School and I loved it! :D

  • to be perfect would leave no room for any improvement. you would always be perfect but you couldnt be more than that...

  • Its funny how Uma & aEthan actually ended up falling in love while filming this movie<3

    ........to bad they got divorced:(..

  • Thanks so much for this. really somes up life!

  • WAIT... o.O is Irene a god child, too???

  • @SecretlyyNerdy no, i think her parents decided to give her a random selection for heart condition so it's not AS PERFECT as others

  • The score to this film is just to good, it has me balling in tears (i'm 26)

  • great movie :-))

just this scene always irritates me.

    "10.000 beats overdue"

about 60 beats a minute, equals 3600 beats per hour, equals ~3 hours overdue.

    Damn it! :D

  • @FFlink

i know! i was wondering about that too! i was like "10,000 beats? ehh?..."

  • my favorite movie of all time

  • CAL POLYYY POMONAA

  • irine...was somalia to me

  • Yes she was. Remember when she confessed about having him sequenced? She lamented about her. She said she had a "...risk" of heart failure? He dismissed it and still asked her out on a date. Also she had the heart pill at the resturant.

  • Does anynone know wether Irene is "a god child" too?

  • no she isn't, she is the g. word.

  • She couldn't have been because she was working at Gattaca.

  • does anyone know if this is the CLA building in Cal Poly?

    thanks

  • it is indeed the CLA building in Cal Poly

  • .....and then she ruined his life:)

  • i love how she calls him A GOD child, as in a child of god, a choosen one, a great one

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!

  • I've never known an actress in present day Hollywood who looks so good in a tailored outfit than Uma.

  • @Ruranga. The first in order of sequence. Without giving out any spoilers. I would say the anttenea array. "...it must be the light..." Damn! That gives me chills.

  • I felt so bad for Irene.

  • What is your FIRST favorite scene?

  • I don't get how this movie wasn't a super successeful film either. The acting Superb, the visuals utterly stunning and the story unique and original. Fantastic ride on the Make Em Think Wagon.

  • @motionin the reason was because of shit marketing. if the marketing was as good as titanic then the movie would have been a fantastic sucess.

  • @jobjed I agree Jobjed; This is simply a great movie without all the violence. Amazing story and intense moments; And with some marketing help it would have been talked about for a long time.

  • love this film fantastic ,soundtrack is great too

  • Agree with AphoticC below, Criminal this wasn't a more successful film.

  • Such a fantastic film. I only picked it up today and was stunned at how incredibly good it looked, how impressive the performances were from all main cast members, how Michael Nyman's beautiful score moved me to tears more than once and how affirming and "FUCK YES!"-esque that scene at the end was.

Criminal that it wasn't more successful.

  • Whats the song at the beginning, its so good.

  • Its "The Truth" by Michael Nyman.

  • this movie is about the pursuit of your dreams and the passion and sacrifice to reach them. this movie changed my way of thinking, when i was told by many that due to my situation i would never reach my dream. but to go beyond the limits of what is expected . there is no situation that can stop you from achieving your dreams .This Movie is an affirmation

  • wow.

this movie made me fall in love with ethan hawke.

    ...well his looks at least.

    not his whole nanny shit.

  • does anyone find something in common between this movie and AI, rather than JL there is something with the filming...like the images being so perfect...the photography of the suinsets...something...of coursse nothing to do with the plot....but the photography is very very similar....

  • so today's degenerates will soon be today's deGENErates

  • What a brilliant piece of writing, top that.

The acting, timing, music and the poetry of those few lines, "you are the authority of what is possible Irene", as good as it gets in the cinema and the reason why movies can be great art.

  • My favorite movie of all time. Its never too late to live your dreams. I can fully relate

  • yeah, well i've seen this movie about 9387638763934876857619374351 times.

  • It isn't possible. hahahahahahha

  • no, it's possible!!! I'm a faith-birth and I want you to believe me! after all, yoU are the authority on what is possible!!!

for whatever it's worth, i can tell you that it's possible to see this movie 93874763983275632934639032781 times!!! ROFFFFFLLLLLLLLLLL

  • i have seen it 0.078833387787897987 times.

  • oh yeah, well you need to finish watching the movie

and then maybe you can begin to talk like an expert

  • Doesn't matter what you kids say or how many times you watch the movie. You don't have the genes to be "experts." muhahaha

  • so, i totally just watched this movie again today. in my bio15 class for extra credit!!

    really, how awesome am i!?

  • I wouldn't like betting on it.

  • LMAO

  • It is too late, if you want it to be.

  • this scene gets me so choked up

  • i looked into gattaca only because of ethan hawke and uma thurman's relationship. now, im starting to think that i should go out and rent this movie. reading all these comments has made me soooooo curious!!!! i hope after i watch it that it doesnt move me to the point where it will stay on my mind for months to come!!!

  • You won't be disappointed, but you might not get that last wish. This is one you'll watch more than once, and it will stick with you.

  • It was more than a movit. Gattaca is a life event.

  • my favorite movie of all time. God this scene gives me chills every time

  • @Crunkchipmunk

Thats one of my fav scene along with the Second Morrow

  • Uma is a God child. So very strange to be reminded of the beauty of imperfection by someone that absolutely stunning.

  • sombody just needs to upload the movie on youtube so i can favorite the whole thing ; )

  • this moment shows that human beings are capable of anything

  • My favorite part has always been where Vincent and Irene go on the top of that building and watch the glorious sunrise and that beautiful music plays and they are basked in the golden light. My god if that scene is not the most spiritually beautiful scene ever filmed then I don't know what is. To me it symbolized the very best within all of humanity. Not merely the character's growing relationship for eachother. It was more than that it was like the absolute triumph of an enlightened human race.

  • I cant agree with you more about the sunrise scene. A special feeling comes over me whenever I watch that scene, it makes you believe that the world and humanity is a beautiful, strange and wonderous thing. I judge this movie to be the most visually spectacular I have seen and probably the only movie where the message of following your dreams doesn't come off cheesy but inspirational and truly moving.

  • my fav movie

  • Definitely one of the best parts of any movie ever; What's your number one? My favorite part is in the ocean when it looks like titan and vincent says "you wanna know how i did it? I didnt save anything for the swim back to shore" and then he swims off through the mist gazing at the stars.

  • Has to be the ending part, the doctor allowing him to go. The music accopanying it just spectacular. No words, at the end just his face, bright with achievement.

  • Yeah, that part with the doctor always makes me cry. The whole movie is perfect. The only other movie ive seen thats almost as perfect is The Village by Shyamalan.

  • thats def. in the top 3 of best scenes ive ever scene in a movie just an absolutely brilliant story and movie

  • When Antwone and Vincent are swimming their last race, and Vincent said, "I never saved anything for the swim back home (or shore)" that scene got to me. Sibling rivalry and all those expectations parents impose on their children was the message I got from the film...and I never forgot it.

Is there a clip of that scene on youtube? I'd love to see it again.

  • yeah, search for videos by this galferez guy

  • completely agree, i felt that it was one of the most powerful scenes in the film too. iv been trying to look for it here since.

  • just search for - gattaca swim back

  • @MaxAgond

When the doctor let him go, I cried.

  • @HaloedG

    We all cryied

    :)

  • stop at 0:16 seconds. :D Ethan's face LOL

  • LOL

  • I like this movie too

  • I watched this last night

  • I think Uma Thurman was at her most beautiful in this movie. All the characters in this film have impeccable grooming. (It was part of the story's obsession with perfection)

  • i like this scène it's so very very sweet , pretty and beautiful !!!

  • powerful scene

  • wow the acting combined with the music in this scene makes it so powerful, they've got great chemistry, no wonder they were married for a while

  • Beautiful. So is she.

  • i love this scene - it's so sad and sweet.

  • So sweeeeeeeet, love it!

  • Someone should submit the scene when Vincent challenges Anton to swim. Also an awesome scene

  • yes!

"You want to know how I did it? This is how I did it, Anton: I never saved anything for the swim back."

  • I never understood what Vincent meant by that.

  • in their swimming contests, they knew that every stroke they took out to sea had to be made again on the swim back, so they had to keep that in mind.

Vincent had 30 years to live. when Anton asked "how did you do it" (with regards to passing as 'perfect') and he replied "i didn't save anything for the swim back", it illustrated the situation he would face on his space trip to Titan, where there would likely be no 'swim back', due to his age, so he was able to dedicate his whole life towards it.

  • Oooh, okay I get it mow. Thanks :)

  • Excuse me did you just say, "meow"!!

  • omg i meant to say "now" I'm bad at typing srry XD

  • I'ts one of my fav scenes tooo

  • It's a very good scene. Gattaca, Training Day, and Pulp Fiction are 3 of my favorite films, and Uma Thurman/Ethan Hawke appear in all 3. I never thought about it until now.

  • ethan hawke appears in pulp fiction??

  • he is not in pulp fiction that guy is wrong.

  • I meant either Uma or Ethan (or both) appear in the 3 movies.

  • This a brilliant part of the movie

  • I love this part too! So beautiful!
