This game is actually a home port of the arcade game G-LOC but not many knew about that game. More people knew the name "After Burner". There is even a fully rotatable arcade version called R-360.

Sega has messed up a lot with the sega32x and segacd "experiment" when they could have focused on the Saturn project.....what's the point in doing an old console expansion in 1993 when the new console is coming out next year.

I really loved SEGA in the Dreamcast years, but in 1993 it was kinda screwed up, worst than today's nintendo.

Mark reacted the same as I when I first started up the game. Drop-dead awesome intro, great Level 1 intro, and then the game's brought down by bland desert scenery, and a game engine so stripped down, it fails to immerse the player like AB2 did. I'm one of the few who didn't like the music as well. To me, the tunes sounded like they were remixed for some 1990s TV cop show. :-/

I had the same reaction also, although I mostly liked the music. I already had After Burner 2 on the Genesis, and after getting a SegaCD I was really eager for this version. Instead I found the old Genesis cart was more fun.  Sheesh, what a waste.

I was equally disappointed with several SegaCD games actually, until I became disillusioned with Sega and got into PC games. I never bought any later Sega systems, this was the time period when they lost me.

Hmmm, I enjoyed Afterburner III and the cockpit view helped me get further along in this game than in any other Afterburner. The only problem I have with it is that the machine guns are basically pointless.

Yup, this is basically the sequel to G-Loc Air Battle, but with the After Burner name because G-Loc didn't exactly do well (and was a spiritual successor to After Burner as well).

They REALLY did do an excellent job of producing the music, though. It's super hard to reproduce the overall feel of the crunchy synth the arcade cabinet had while tossing real instruments into the mix.

Yeah, I remember a friend having this game long ago; we expected it to be 90% as good as the arcade original; the music is 200% of the arcade, but the game play is less then 50%, CGR got it right on the money with this review.

So, it wasn't just Air Combat (PS1) that was annoying with its voices! Then again, Air Combat's voice are even MORE annoying! Just a graze from machine gun fire makes the game say "ALERT! BODY DAMAGED!" Five times! At first, I thought your comment was an Air Combat reference (Read the comments before watching the vid!) because it never shuts up with the "Bogey on your tail!" and "BINGO! YAHOO!"
