I can observe sunspots by simply projecting the sun through my binoculars. But is it possible to see the corona during a total solar eclipse through binocular projection?
Does any 1 know how often Solar total eclipse occur? I got too many different answers.I'm not talking about partial or annular, But total eclipse of the sun...Thanks in advance.
Its funny to think that on the only planet where their is clear breathable and observers smart enough to make sense of their world also has a moon just the right size and distance for humans to study the suns atmoshere. If the moon was a llittle closer or bigger it would block the suns atmospher if it were smaller or closer it would let in too much light. Its just right for studying. I belive we are here not by some chemicals accedently comming togheter but we are here for a reason.
Of all the planetary bodies and moons in our solar system, Earth is the only one privilaged to have such a view in it's sky, our moon being just the right distance to give it exactly the same apparent size as the disk of the sun. Without this arrangement humans wouldn't even know about the solar corona untill the age of technology.
@surfingtube well, I'm afraid that if we ever make it even near the center of the Milky Way, we'd be sucked in and killed by the supermassive black hole...
@numberonefergiefan Gravity and time are amazing forces. Also if there was a god you don't you think that the creation of the universe would be more amazing that putting the moon in between the sun. Just saying since he created it all he's kind of lame. Giving us free will but demanding us to worship him. If there was a god he's is a weak, deceptive old god, and with questionable intentions.
@theextremegulp I personally dont believe in a god, and it seems you don't either, but please, if you are going to argue against religion on an intellectual level, at least get your facts straight....not only is time not an 'amazing force', its not a force at all. You're making us [non-believers] ALL look stupid.
@mthoma1000 I realize time is not a force but the effects of time are a force. Obviously not in any traditional sense because the effects of time are other forces acting on things. I was only making a point. Sorry to have offended you.
@theextremegulp Wow. Atheists sure are blind and really dense. How could you not see the beauty, the mystique, and the wonders that surround us? How could you not find it fascinating and mind-boggling? Solar eclipses are just another example of one of the mysterious wonders of our universe. To think its not amazing is just crazy. And seriously, everything could not have been created on its own so perfectly and so well-proportioned. Believing in god gives us this understanding. You lack faith.
@xxMia01123 So engaging in rational thought and not chalking up one of the beauties of nature to a mysterious omnipotent is being dense. Trust me I appreciate the beauty in nature but to believe that a complex system is perfect is one of the dumbest things I have heard in recent memory. Lack of faith? I have faith in man and the accomplishments we have attained. I believe faith in a higher power is what set us back in the middle ages and still today sets us back. Science and reason.
@theextremegulp Its not just appreciating the beauty in nature. It's more than that. Do you really think everything came into existence on its own? That what i meant by you lacking faith. Inner faith. And by perfect I meant how the planets are aligned, the rotation of the planets, and how earth is able to sustain all kinds of life. Its perfect beyond belief.
@xxMia01123 You do realize that day after day we are discovering more Earth-like planets? This seems like a moot argument because you attribute works of nature to some higher power. Its like arguing with a block of wood that never changes. Meanwhile in reality people study, gather evidence and over long periods of time develop theories. These theories are subject to change but its the best evidence we have. There is nothing more perfect about our solar system than anything else.
@theextremegulp Earth-like but they are nothing like our earth. We have yet to find a planet that can sustain life like ours. As a religious person, I believe that god specially created this planet for us humans and for life to nourish. If not then wouldn't there be loads of earth's everywhere? No, our earth is definitely special.
@xxMia01123 Well if you read and were informed there is a planet that could be habitable. Its is Kepler-22B but of course God made that perfect too. This is a stupid argument when you fail to see reason. I am not implying that Earth is special, its our home. To think that god created only one habitable planet is kind of obtuse even for a believer. Your beliefs are narrow minded and blindly driven by faith and an inability to look deeper into issues. Good luck with your perfection.
@xxMia01123 A furthermore is it is very hard to see planets that are close to the sun it the habitable zone. The suns light blocks us from seeing them. We have to use a complex series to equations using the planets effect on gravity to calculate density and size of celestial objects orbiting the star close. Not that this matters to you, but it has only been the past 10 years they have actually been looking. If you look more that's not the only one found.
@surfingtube u no that wont happen the sun will die in like 2 billion year then it will blow up killing all life on earth so the world will die but not that soon :D (what your thinking is a myth)
@dianamadelin do a search for polar shift. this happends every once 250,000 years and we are now heading for it. our tech estimates this will happen again at 21 of desember 2012 as planet earth will be at the center of the milky way. also, atleast 3 religions points to this exact date, including the mayans who developed the same calendar we use to this day. it's not a matter of when this will happend, it's more a matter of how bad the damage will be. Do some research on it
@surfingtube "planet earth will be at the center of the milky way... Do some research on it"
Thankfully there has already been a great deal of research done on our position within the Milky Way, which has concluded that no, it won't. The Solar System has never been anywhere near the centre of our galaxy, and certainly won't be for a good few millions of years. I'm not saying life as we know it won't necessarily end on this day, but you can rest easy that this won't be the cause.
it would be my dream if i could see this is real life cuz i dont life where a solar eclipse can happen only lunar and it happens around the winter months every year but last year it was too cloudy :.(
i wonder how many religious people have turned to athiests thx to pro Brian cox lol science is proven fact and with the technolgies we have now proves that a man didnt create the world
just a quetion peeoples, how does the universe get everything so perfect? its amazing how it fits perfectly with the sun and isnt even 5mm off. how can a bang make that?

I think it is amazing that despite all the discoveries of science and all things that have happened in history we -humankind- still have the ability to stand amaze at the wonders of nature and watch this solar eclipse. This video is great and I wish we could appreciate all other marvelous phenomenon in our universe. Eclipses are just a very small portion of the universe.
