  • I only get vertigo when I look up or down, not side to side, will this manuvere help me?

  • There's a social network for Meniere's Disease sufferers, Tinnitus sufferers, and anyone with any inner ear or balance related illness, their family and friends are more than welcome as they are integral to a healthy support network.

menieresworld has forums, groups, video, chatrooms, games and loads more.

    Just Google menieresworld

  • vote this if you think every single viewer of this video is a med student?

  • I am a neurologist and I use this video a lot to teach med students and to educate my patients after performing the maneuver.

Just wanted to thank you for the initiative! Great job!

  • @Gusmed007 - Thanks for the feedback, I am glad it is helpful.

  • excellent!!! A+++

  • oh wow that worked great thanx so much for the video!!!

  • I meant vid, not his, lol.

  • Awesome his. Helps with my exam!

  • Took me two tries for it to work. I still get vertigo when I move my head sometimes but it is nothing like what it was. If I tilted my head up, down, or to the right, I would get an intense, can't even see straight, 10 second wave of vertigo. Now I'm just getting mild waves, if at all. at least a 75% reduction in symptoms for me. still going to see a doctor though. thanks for posting.

  • I have severe vertigo sometimes when i am asleep, and i wake up with a horrible dizzy sensation that can last from 5 seconds to 5 minutes. I've had it since i was about 8 (I am 19 now).

This exercise has been great help to me.

  • Perfect. Did it several times and got rid of it. Thanks a lot. Doctor couldn't find it till i saw this on youtube.

  • I'll definitely try this next time. Normally an ear plug works in the effected ear but last night when i got it, the ear plug trick didnt work :-(

  • what is the mechanism behind this? Is it rotation of the semi circular canals to dislodge otoliths?

I'm a med student also, thanks for this video!

  • This is the best video for this I've seen so far. Great job!

  • This is the best video for this I've seen so far.

  • I am very happy. After suffering for 2 weeks this has cured my vertigo !

  • It has been a long time since I have had to do this...The dizziness is awful! my balance is bad...My BPPV was diagnosed with an "air test" it is my left side that is affected...This latest bout was brought on by my turning in my sleep on my left side...

This is such a horrible feeling...

  • THANKS ALOT! IT HELPED EASE IT ALOT! but how many times a day do i need to do this?

  • Careful! If the maneuver is incomplete then you may find yourself worse off. There's a final step that involves turning all the way onto the stomach at the end. The classic Adams & Victor Neurology text notes that skipping this step may change a posterior canal problem to a lateral canal problem that is not easily treated. This maneuver is best performed by a medical professional trained to perform it. The video is a nice introduction, but not appropriate for complete training purposes.

  • @2minutesinheaven if the patient is worse off, it is probably because they need the manover repeated to complete clearing or the patients problem actual problems is a cervical-ocular reflex problem instead of a vestibular-ocular reflex problem.

  • @mg200442000 If the problem is converted to lateral canalithiasis repeating the maneuver probably won't help. You're stuck. My point is that this maneuver should be done right the first time. I trust A&V that an incomplete maneuver is bad news for some. There are also other maneuvers for BPPV.

Also, I would think if the problem stems from a cervical-ocular reflex issue then the maneuver should not worsen the problem. It won't help, but neither should it hurt.

  • This fixes me when i get it...Thanks for the upload!

  • Anybody wishing to try this maneuver, please note that you may feel considerably worse once you do it because you are doing all the things that cause the symptoms at one time. It's worth it though because within days you will be back to normal. Good luck. :D

  • I've suffered with this for 3 years and the doctor kept telling me it was all in my mind because I suffer with depression. (I was depressed because of the illness duh!) I trawled the internet finding out everything I could abour dizziness and found nothing that would help. Finally I typed in specifics instead of just "Dizzy" and found a site about BPPV. I haven't looked back since....but I can now look up and down lol. Thank you for posting this, you're a life saver.

  • Update... it's been about 4 hours since I did this maneuver and am starting to feel better. Can walk up and down the stairs from the family room into the main part of the house without having to hold onto something. Let's hope this progress continues.

    Rhiannon

  • I just performed this and feel more dizzy than I did before. Is this normal?

    Rhiannon

  • my mom got dizzy same direction as the claymation doll, do I repeat this maneuver only in the direction of the video or do I do it also in the other way?? thanxx amill

  • i tried this yesterday and felt much better afterwards. im going to do it a couple ot times over the next few days to see if it clears up completely. Thanks for the video as its unpleasant to feel dizzy all the time.

  • Thank you!!! Your video is the best one and it totally worked for me! Since it's claymation it kind of flies under the radar but wow, great job.

  • Thanks for the nice comments.

  • wow great video!!!

Im a med student and this is very helpfull

  • I'm a med student - this is so awesome!

  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

  • Do you perform the manuever one time per treatment? What if you get no nystagmus or vertigo with the hallpike maneuver?

    Thanks

  • If there is no vertigo or nystagumus with the Dix-Hallpike test, that is a negative result meaning that the patient probably doesn't have BPPV. I usually repeat the maneuver once during the visit.

  • Brilliant claymation and demo. IMHO this is far better than anything else here about BPPV and how to treat it. Doing it like most of the other vids would've made me as sick as a dog, moving so fast and/or lurching from one side to the other ...

I found moving slowly and carefully while doing any of this stuff worked well for me. Felt better after 1 session, 3 sessions over approx 24 hrs fixed it totally.

But of course, I'm not a doctor and maybe I was lucky - 'Your results may vary." ;o)

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your video has allowed me to fix my vertigo quickly! This procedure was not invented when my grandfather was around. He suffered from vertigo for years. Missing days of work at a time. My mom also suffered for a few years before this was invented. My mother sees an ENT for vertigo, and he does this procedure on her. I have not had to see an ENT yet. I can perform this movement, and i'm better!

    Thanks for the video!

  • You are welcome. I am glad it has helped.

  • I am under treatment by a neurologist, but naturally the world started spinning over the Christmas holiday, not when the office was open. They told me over the phone that I could try this, but that it might help, or it might make it much worse. (Yikes!) Couldn't keep going as I was, so I tried it. 80% better on the first attempt. Thank you for posting this!

  • You are welcome, I am glad you feel better.

  • I literally just had this manouever carried out in past hour. I will update on results over next few weeks.

  • Good luck. I hope it works!

  • I cannot believe how successful this was. And so simple. I woke up this morning and for the first time in four months I did not feel dizzy. It is a great feeling. Thank you.

  • Thanks. Just got pimped on this today :D

  • Thanks so much for this video. I was just diagnosed with BPV and will try this next time I get an episode. I'm assuming that this won't work unless I do it while I'm having a dizzy episode???

  • Very effective and simple maneuever for a potentially debilitating condition, with an excellent success rate (assuming diagnosis is correct)

  • Well, I'll be damned. After two days of non-alcoholic bed spins, that worked on the very first try.

  • Is there a risk to perform this if you don't have Bppv?

  • From emedicine: "Contraindications to performing the Epley maneuver include ongoing CNS disease (ie, stroke or transient ischemic attack [TIA]), unstable heart disease, severe neck disease (eg, rheumatoid arthritis) or history of cervical spine fracture or surgery, carotid bruit on examination indicating carotid stenosis, or body habitus preventing performance of the maneuver." As far as risk for someone without BPPV and without any of the above problems, there is none that I know of.

  • Thanks so much. i started to perform this 5 days ago. I had moderate vertigo and it has improved my symptoms in a 70-80%. I have no idea if I have Bppv but I tried th epley and it has been very useful. i have no history of the conditions you mentioned in your reply so I think there is no problem to do this for me.

  • In claymation no less -- I love it!

  • O M G.... You really know how to teach xD

  • Seems helpful for my Meneires disease vertigo attacks

  • If you have just Meneires the Epley Maneuver shouldn't be helpful, unless it is serving as a habituation exercise

  • thanks. that will be helpful

  • So nice. I'm studying for my ENT exam and this helped a lot!

  • omg, that's an amazing video! great job!

  • very good
