It is easy enough to do this when the object in question can be proven to be stolen; the US law on this subject is that stolen property, even that stolen several times, belongs to the original owner. The problem is much harder when the country where the artifact was found originally gave it up willingly at the time (for any number of reasons, including bribery), often centuries ago, but now wants it back.

I'm very proud that the U.S.A confiscated it and returned it back to Egypt where it belongs.
