I remeber when I saw Earthquake wrstle "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan at Target Center in Minneapolis, MN back in 1990 & when his music hit, the arena floor shook like an earthquake was happening. Combined with the drum beats of his steps, I suddenly understood why his music was so simple.
A simple and terrifying them. These days, everyone has a fucking song performed by some generic group of twenty-somethings yelling some shit about betrayal, days ending, coming to play/stay etc.....None of them are intimidating. When Earthquake's music hit, you knew that 99% of the time, some poor bastard in the ring was going out on a stretcher.
@DarthCipient im glad im not the only one thinking that. why the hell is every theme these days performed by a band. what happend to the days of the WWF/e making their own themes.
@ledzkreep That's so funny because the FIRST, and I mean the FIRST, thing that came to mind after experiencing the earthquake was John Tenta. Just hilarious.
aaaah Earthquake. Anyone who watched the WWF back in the golden era will always remember Earthquake and Tugboat, there were plenty of big guys that came through the WWF/E's doors, but 'Quake and the Tugster always stick in my mind.
I loved Earthquake, he was an awesome bad guy. If he has not already been posthumously inducted into the wwe Hall of Fame, he really, really should be.
R.I.P John "Earthquake" Tenta.
(@ people asking about this, yes, he died from a long battle with bladder cancer)
I remember when he hit the all time greatest Andre The Giant with the megaphone and put the Eighth Wonder Of The World on the shelf. I'm kind floored I can't find that video anywhere on YouTube
Vince McMahon said at Wrestlemania X after Earthquake destroyed Adam Bomb that you had to wonder what would happen in Earthquake and Yokozuna ever stepped into the same ring. For one thing, the ring might well buckle under their combined weight! But hands down, Earthquake would win.
Does any one even remember how Earthquake got started in the WWF? Well I remember it like it was yesterday (20 years ago). Dino Bravo used to pick out people from the crowd to sit on his back while he did push ups as a warm up before his match with a jobber. One particular night Dino was going to start a match but the crowd wanted him to show off by having him use Earthquake as the one who sat on his back while he did push ups. If any one remembers that, you are a real fan who knows their shit
@TheEroe1 That was posted on YouTube here some time ago. I don't know if it still is. That was a brilliant storyline and great way to introduce Quake into the WWF. Pure genius for the time (and even today if it was done). They don't do ideas like that anymore. The funny part about it was, Quake was alot bigger than Bravo but still played 'scared' in the beginning lol
@TheMac1229 I'm a fan old school WWF. Lately it's kinda boring except TLC matches. Seeing his theme made me remember how the Earthquake got started, then I remember he was a tag partner with Tugboat for a little while too.
@TheEroe1 Wrestling as a whole isn't what it used to be compared to the 80s and early 90s, and its not just because of the internet. Yes, the fans are smarter today and know alot more of the inside stuff (with the business being exposed and all), but the characters, storylines, and the way the angles are played out aren't what they used to be. Plus, its more sports entertainment today, where back then, even in the WWF, there was alot more wrestling being done and alot less talking
I remember that. John Tenta looked liked a huge lumberjack. Then when I saw this "fan" attack the Ultimate Warrior, I was baffled. Worlds collided that night.
@allboutk I met John Tenta here in sunny Southampton England a about 10 years ago when he was he wrestling at the guild hall. He was just out and about in town and walked past the shop i worked in. I marked out completly and said to him " youre Earthquake!" he replied "i know". Top bloke though, we had a little chat about whats he was upto and he gave me an autograph. He looked big on tv but in the flesh he was enormous!
I rember seeing him wrestle "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan at Target Center in Minneapolis around '90-'91 & when Earthquake walked to the ring, the ground shook during his entrance. It was so cool & something that had to be experianced live. R.I.P. John Tenta
i always wanted to see a match between earthquake and andre the giant but it never happened!! they were both in a royle rumble match one year.. but one of them had gotten eliminated, when one of them started too come out next they never had that match between adre and earthquake and thats bull shit a big rip off
I was legitimately afraid of Earthquake as a kid. He was very much over but could have been even more over were it not for Hogan's white-knuckle grip on his spot as "the man".
Though i have to admit, after leaving the WWF, he should have left wrestling. WCW freaking killed his character by giving him a killer shark gimmick...it freaking sucked.
I somewhat agree, but that beats out Undertaker's theme when he first came out? Or Papa Shango's? I would always remember running to my dad crying when i was a little kid whenever Earthquake would come out.
what did bret say about him/ i never saw brets full speech. hart is my favourite wrestler of all time. earthquake is the most intimidating wrestler of all time!
you can find bret hart speech on you tube, just type, bret harts hall of fame full speech, its seperated in 4 parts, but bret, when bret is talk about earthquake is paer 3/4, but I say you better listen to his full speech its is so funny and interesting.
