to all the people geeking out about 128 bit, its not going to happen. no one has hardware to support it, and there wont be software for a loooonnnnggg time that will use it. we dont even see 128 bit in most astronomy applications, so why would a normal desktop use it? common sense. plus 64 bit already allows for insane amounts of ram, and new generation processors (i7). and unless youve got a computer with 8 processing cores, and 16 gigs of ram you cant even support it :P

@GenuineMW2 with 64 bit you can have any amount of ram you want. its not being limited by the OS, but the fact that very few applications use more than a few gigs of ram at their max. nothing home users would ever use will be written for 128, so it wont happen

Linux users number over 40 million now and have more market share than Apple users, its just harder to find out the truth about it, but if you look at a recent Microsoft presentation presentation they clearly show Linux is their biggest threat

But its crazy that people are speculating about Windows 8 after Windows 7 being released less than a month ago. But 128bit architecture?! Does that mean a billion GB of RAM by 2012?

Well I think it's going to be premature transition again. Remember when architectures shifted from 32 to 64 bit, there were so many software/hardware compatibility issues! However, the thought of having a 128bit architecture would mean we can install larger memory modules and other performance upgrades.

Honestly I see no need, the current hardware available barely scratches the surface of what 64bit can do. The 64bit OS can support like over 200 GB of RAM, a typical high end computer can barely support 16gb. If they realise a 128bit OS, it is just causing problems where they are unnecessary.

Also 64bit still struggles with some programs and drivers lol

I completely agree! I can personally proclaim that the 64-bit nowadays are problem free. Although I expect it to be common / stabilize during the lifetime of Windows 7 OS.
