A brilliant line, delivered by a brilliant actor. Right up there with 'Failure is NOT an OPTION'. Ed Harris gave a BRILLIANT portrayal of Gene Kranz in this film.
As good as the actors portraying the astronauts were, the two performances in that movie that just plain floored me were Ed Harris as Gene Kranz and Loren Dean as John Aaron.
@Warhawk137 I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. There have been many positive comments about Harris as Kranz and I don't need to add more. But Dean as Aaron is absolutely eye opening. And the more I find out about John Aaron, the more I admire the guy. From a cowboy in one day to a steely eyed missile man a few years later, Aaron is truly an American hero.
Everytime I feel distressed I think of this scene and what Gene Kranz said. He basically took a negative and turned it into a positive. It's all in how one looks at things in life.
The stare from Gene Kranz could have melted through iron. What a tremendous performance by Ed Harris. Those of us lucky enough to have met Kranz in real like know that Harris simply nailed his portrayal of this iconic figure in American space history.
what an awesome performance, he captured the steel resolve of the day thats for sure, I cant think of anything more admirable to say besides what you have already, awesome scenes.
PS: My gramps & Dad both worked at Lockeed and JPL and I remember those days vividly as a wide eyed 8 year old. narrow ties, lots of short sleeved white shirts, crew cuts and everybody smoked.
It was leadership, as much as knowledge, wisdom, skill and courage, that made up the human backbone of how the Apollo 13 astronauts were saved from a certain death in the cold vacuum of space. If I ever had to go to space, I'd like Gene Krantz - or someone just like him - at the helm in Mission Control.
Kranz is a rear man! He knew the facts those two were talking about but had worked out all that could be and focased on that.

i have a question about this movie... not the movie itself but something thats been on my mind for a long time
thelittlemind 7 months ago
I have read that Krantz never actually said 'Failure is not an option.'
Whether he did or not does not matter.

The moon missions were faked in a studio. Here's a link to some of the evidence.

When Gene Kranz says something, you shut up.

@0881benjamin John Aaron is the man who saved Apollo 12.

@imranite
Who was Aaron? The "steely eyed missle man"?
SHM1953 6 months ago
@SHM1953 Yes, but in real life. In the movie, the guy who was in charge of building the device to remove CO2 was given that title.
Aaron, in the movie, is the guy who says "Power is everything" to Gene Kranz.
imranite 6 months ago
@imranite I still don't get it. What did Aaron do that was so critical if he didn't do the co2 scrubber?
SHM1953 6 months ago
@SHM1953 Look John Aaron up on Wikipedia. You will find out.
imranite 6 months ago
@imranite i looked him up.
Very impressive but looks like he did his best work on Apollo 12.
SHM1953 6 months ago
@SHM1953 They probably could have aborted Apollo 12, however. Coming up with a power up plan was a much difficult task during Apollo 13's return.

@0881benjamin and Apollo 13. Aaron is a legend.

@Kabals I thought Joe Spano did a good job as Chris Kraft too! But my favorite in this film was actually Gary Sinese as Ken Mattingly.
