  • Idori is very dificult. Great performance. Iaido is for people feel it and understand as live good healt applying the bushido in your life.

  • You know koiguchi? Are you really certanty todome after Noto? Here's you make kime on Hasso? Great demonstration, very nice. I want see diferences on my style and learn more detais. Tanks.

  • Does anyone know the particular name of this piece of gagaku music?

  • Katori Shinto-ruy is probably the only art that was inspired by a Diety.

  • Some of the so called swordsman on here should take a leaf out of this guys book.

  • Great music!

  • The turn at 1:40 is a wonderful example of how the sword flows from the movement of the man. Masterful the whole demonstration.

  • simply gorgeous

  • the music doesn't suit the occasion, gagaku (this style of music) is not generally played while someone is showing kata..

  • i thought the music took me to the time and place where this might have been practiced...i think it was nice.

  • the man performing runs one of, if not the, best schools in japan. People travel from all over the islands to train there.

  • His sword wobbles ever so slightly when he swings it...I bet that blade could cut through just about anything. Just gorgeous.

  • Is that Shinto - Ryu related to Shinto , the Japanese native religion ? Or in the past Iaido practitioners show their skill in ceremony in front of Shinto shrine ? Anyone know tell me !!!

  • Katori Shinto shrine is the place where the founder said that he had a message from the gods about martial arts on how to use the sword and etc. So he named his art Katori shinto ryu in commemoration to his revelation.

  • Thanks for the information ^_^^_^

  • There is a description on wikipedia.

  • i love this music! :P

  • Shinto music can sound pretty nice but if its shitty it just sounds like a bunch of random noises.

There are lots of nice traditonal Japanese music, such as Taiko drumming. Thats great for martial arts videos.

  • horrible music??it's GAGAKU,the most traditionnal music in japan,

    a little respect please

  • It's shrine music for weddings etc...

  • Haha, you don't need to respect things just because they're traditional. Fair enough if someone thinks it's horrible.

  • You may thinks it's horrible . But , At least , just don't say someting like that in front of Japanese . Or write in here , Pal !!!

  • I like the music because it is appears to be more in synch with nature or harmony with nature, not synthetic.

The balance in Hitachi Sensei's movements is exquisite and are truly practical in application as opposed ot the ritualistic movements of modern sword arts.

  • Great Iai Clip! Horrible Music!!!

  • wonderful demonstration. I know nothing of this. Was just checking out the oldest forms of martial arts and Japanese martial arts. what a beautiful art, and beautiful music to set the scene

  • Another excellent demonstration of Katori Shinto Ryu. Beautiful technique.

  • Greath vídeo, but the song is terrible...please take off...

  • if you respect the art you can also learn to respect gagaku which is a musical form about as old as this martial art

  • such a departure from contemporary music. IMO it does take some getting used to even for a native Japanese :-).

  • totemo omoshiroi desu

  • not bad 4/5

  • I'm waiting for some "learned martial-artist" from the American-invented "Nami Ryu" to post an outraged complaint that the touching of the blade in these kata will irrevokably rust it. Well, it might if you use a crappy Chinese blade to train but the gentleman above uses a genuine Nihonto made by Yoshindo Yoshihara sensei.

  • I agree with you about the genuine nihonto. In any case, the blades are polished with a tissue, powder and oil after every use.

  • wow! I just watched the nami ryu video. too bad comments was disabled. I wanted to suggest they call it Maiami Ryu

  • I retract the comment below. It was made following my encounter with a flamer who was pretending to be from the Nami Ryu and was deliberately making them look very silly indeed. I've since been contacted by real members who seem like genuine martial-artists.

  • All of my Chinese blades are pretty damn good! And with proper care, they never rust!! :-)~ I only touch one side as well.

  • lol you're pretty random. And you also must not understand international culture quite well.

  • Huh?

  • U proved my point.

  • International "culture" as you put it is not a static thing once it comes in contact with the rest of the world. Save your comments for someone who cares.

  • Great video, well made by a Polish embassador....BUT MAKE THE MUSIC STOP!! :-)

  • Lol this Sensei Seems to be one of the few true remaining samurai ive seen xD, God Damn Hes Quick

and you know theres some korean guy saying something like... he is quick like cheetah Agile Like Cat and Strong Like Bear o.O and im there like wtf am i doing looking up Risuke Otake at 4am in the morning xD

  • magnifique, Risuke Otake est tout simplement majestueux avec son sabre

  • J'adore comment il dégaine vers le bas à 0.59, impressionant.

  • This is amazing, this is how it should be done. Lately, I'm seeing a lot of this crap called Nami-Ryu and it's shameful for a person like james williams to practice samurai arts for five years and turn around make his own style. I feel very sorry for james students because they are being fooled. OTAKE SENSEI dedicated his life to the arts and truly a great man and a great master!

  • you must check out his father.

  • Indeed. User "vysokij" has a full 5 minute clip of Otake Risuke Sensei doing iaijutsu.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • wow, thats amazing, i wish to become that fast one day
