The Irish weren't beaten for speaking Irish, that's a total myth. Irish people realised that to deal with other merchants it was better to learn English. They spoke it often, and taught their kids. It was useful, so others learnt it, and eventually Irish wasn't spoken regularly.

The only oppressed blacks are oppressed by their own.
