  • love them, thank you for helping me learn

  • isn't manet more realist? his stuff isn't really tragic, or romantic?????

  • True, its not. But his work was developed at a time when Realism was in fashion, which was rooted in the Romantic way of working.

  • Great vids man!

Just subscribed, love the "Art101" series of videos you do, thanks!

  • I agree with Mike that Manet was not an Impressionist, however I disagree that he was a Romantic artist, he was a Modern painter and represented modernity. A better example of what constitutes Romantic art is the Delacroix work "Liberty Guiding the People from 1831. Check out Modernity and Modernism: French Painting in the Nineteenth Century.

  • He was maybe more or a realist than anything. I see your point with Dalacroix, but I'd consider Goya the ultimate ideal of a Romantic artist. Thanks for watching.

  • wow. i cant tell if i hate this. or love this.

  • Half the time I'm in the same boat!

  • MANET Also stands for Mobile Adhoc Networks lol... i was looking for that but i found this video haha...

  • What the heck is an Mobile Adhoc Network?

  • Lets say its like a Wireless Networks, like WiFi, is just a similar technology ^^

  • Nice work. Manet was right, an artwork cannot exactly be finished (there is always room for improvement). I suppose the word "finish" implies to the artist only, not to the viewers.

  • So True!

  • Camille Pissarro helped, guided Vincent when they met in Paris. The greatest story in the world of art in those turbelent years of the 1880's was Vincents life.

  • It was the rear that so much great art came into he salon that they made a second rejected salon. Mary Cassat was shown at the Salon, Love her.

  • Claude was a wonderful painter of flowers and Edouard was a more into High Society.

  • manet was a modernist, not a romantic.

    great vid, Mike.

  • well, He was a Realist, but that was a spin off of the romantic era...Thanks for the comments.

  • I've always had taken art classes in school when I was young, especially when I went to Japanese school in grade school. Always had art.. then, went to the american schools and had to choose 1 elective in middle school. Band or Art... Band Or art.. I chose band. I wished I taken art, too but oh well. I do love art.

  • bytw..Paris was amazing!!!

  • It is a way cool city!

  • I was blown away!

  • Wow..a new look too! I really enjoyed this video... the incorportaion of the 2 versions of you was a great touch. The inro is cool but the font needs some serious adjusting. Glad you did the comparative. I have an idea that would be amazing for you.

  • What is your idea?

  • After watching your latest video..I thought..a video time line of sorts would be a great idea. An art history time line that can be ongoing and interesting from your perspective. I like how you incorporated facts about the lives of the artists as well as the works of the artists...which would be cool in a time line approach as well.

  • By this video I now understand the difference between impressionism and romanticism. I have one of Monet's impressionistic artworks hanging in my dining area.

  • What work?

  • Basically, it is a table scene with china and fruits, including grapes, peaches, and cantaloupes. I don't know what the title of this work is that I have in my possession.

  • It sounds like a work called "Still Life with Melon." He was not known for his still lived but made some awesome ones.

  • thank you this was a great lesson i enjoyed it love gina

  • I am glad you enjoyed this video

  • wow 5*

  • Thank you
