  • You are right about that. When the dogs are pulling happily, driving a sulky is really fun such that your mind is with what is happening instead of all the other things that our minds bother about.

  • Whoa, that looks sooo fun!!!

  • When you sit in the sulky, your weight lifts upwards on the shaft. The harness is carefully constructed to protect the dog's back should you slam on the brakes and cause the shaft tip to dip down.

  • This is cool. Does it hurt the dogs' backs? How is the cart supported?

  • Seriously, I have lots of information about how to train a dog to pull. Some is on the Chalo Sulky web site, some on the dog scooter site, plus I have multiple videos, especially "YOur Dog Can Pull". You can buy books and DVDs from my web site.

  • Will you teach my dog how to do this? Hahaha

  • you are a pioneer.... plain and simple.

  • Good point about the booties. I haven't done booties because I often drive the sulky on dirt and because when it is hot, I don't drive. I haven't had to drive on hot pavement.. Summer is coming, though, and gas is getting more expensive...

  • Awesome Dogs!

  • And thank you for taking the time to view it and to comment on it. I sell sulkies at Chalo Sulky so sulkies being my business gives me an excuse to spend the time making videos. Videos are really absorbing and fun to do. Daphne Lewis

  • good video , thanks for the effort you put into it

  • Hello Silverstar, When you sit in the dog sulky, the seat is behind the axle. Therefore your weight lifts up on the dog's back. You will not hurt the dog's back. Daphne

  • @DaphneLewis Yes, but a great addition to these find animals is the dog boot, something like what "rough wear" makes. People sometimes don't realize, on a hot day they can burn a pad, or slip a pad--and there really is no reason for it when it is so easy to prevent it. On top of that, the boots look great.

  • I want to sulky with my border collie mix. Im 12 and am about 90 pounds and my dog is 2 years old and is 60 pounds. I can ride horses, so know how to control the reins. Im afraid I will hurt her back. Is this true!?

    Thanks!

    And great video!

    Very impressive!

  • Amazing! How did you get your dogs to do this? I bet you get alot of stares.

  • I cant believed I watched that whole thing. It was very interesting though.. And i had no clue there were contraptions like that.

  • Hello Kissme, That is pretty funny. I wondered whether someone new to the dog pulling sport would watch a video like this. Daphne

  • @DaphneLewis Those don't look like sled dog breeds to me.

Looks to me like they are mongrels :P. Isn't it hard to train and handle dogs that are not sled breeds?

  • @Tahlia350 Hi, they do look like mongrels. To me they look like a cross between a golden retriever and a german shepherd. In fact most dogs that are of sufficient size can be trained to pull. Most dogs like it because it gives them places to go. It makes them fit. It teaches them how to get along with their owner - how to work as a team. The breed of dog is a chinook. Chinooks are a rare American breed of sled dogs. They are the state dog of New Hampshire. Daphne

  • @DaphneLewis Oh ok. I had never heard of the Chinook :P

  • Very well trained dog. The video is great.

    Thanks for sharing

  • I absolutely love your videos! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful sport with us. Both Brett and Rosie are stunning! I will be so excited when my Collie puppy is old enough to pull!
