He paints well though there is something about his paintings which strike me as being too photographic in nature and they lose that 'painterly' aspect as a result. I would say Richard Schmid is the premier American painter of our time. This is not to knock the other fine artists out there as it's just my opinion. If I wanted a perfect reproduction of a photo I would simply frame the photo itself and hang it.
