  • I love Swan Lake, and two of the reasons I love Black Swan are the music and the story

  • HEY! Lets quit the Black Swan talk and watch the professionals. This is far more fascinating than whether or not Natalie Portman did her own dancing and whatnot. This is a lifetime of viggorous training on display for the world to see. Let's pay some attention and homage to this fine display of beauty and skill.

  • @ThePuppetSaw I came here just to listen the beautyful musik of Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowski.

  • I think people here need to understand that Black Swan wasn't about dancing. It's not a dancing movie. It was about Nina Sayers and her mental condition. People. Please get over it. If you want a dancing movie, then watch a dancing movie instead of a psychological thriller.

  • l'image n'est pas terrible mais ce n'est pas grave...J'adore cette musique ...elle est ....magique!Moi meme je fais de la musique ..je fais du piano!

    IT'S BEAUTIFUL!

  • I am so happy I saw this ballet this year. Not only the dancing is marvelous, but the music is so enchanting. While watching the play, I could only wish to stay in that same seat forever. I haven't ever heard something so magnificent in my life.

  • lol the evil guy, well, ron rothbart looks like that guy on star trek

  • what's the name of the music at 3:10??? PLEEEASE!!! I PERFORMED THIS SONG LAST YEAR!!!!!

  • and where are the another parts? ;(

  • I miss dancing ballet. This sure does take me back :)

  • Bella interpretación

  • This is a beautiful production of Swan Lake - thank you for posting.

  • my first thought when dude in black showed up : "Woah!! Spock! What are you doing here?!" :b

  • @ arta 2005: pls you have to put the rest of the movie. she is the best dancer of the world for me. especilly when she dances the black swan. I never swa somebody dancing it like her. so please put at least act 3 here. would be so nice of you.

  • I am completely ignorant to the world of Ballet as I'm sure most people that saw Black Swan were. I have to say that I saw no obvious flaws in her dancing. I'm a sci-fi fan and get irked when the science is too obviously butchered but I understand that sacrifices need to be made for the telling of a story and if the story is told well enough you must look past these things. Since the dancing was passable to a lay-person and the movie was wonderful, you must look past minor technical flaws.

  • @LukeOfTroy NP wasn't dancing. Sarah Lane was doing all full-body dancing - look at the editing/head replacement videos. Yet another double provided her feet for other scenes. NP was in upper body close-ups. Anyway, what does it have to do with this video?

  • how did the girl change into the white swan while wearing the dress. is this a real ballet act or computer edited?

  • SUPERB!

  • ON THE OTHER HAND, to make "Black Swan" effective, the movie NEEDS an accomplished actor/actress. If it hires a dancer it's not gonna get that. So it NEEDS a GOOD actress. In FACT the vast majority of the movie involves acting NOT dancing. So thus Aronofsky wanted good acting and dealt with the dancing aspects as the secondary.

    Geez people.....

  • @lukebccb We just need actors like we had back in the day. Gene Kelly, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire. They could sing, act, and dance. All quite well. These days Hollywood is far too limited.

  • @PastryMagician420: Actually the truth is that no one paid to see Kelly's, Rogers, Astaire's acting.... they were paying to watch their dancing. Kinda like today when Beyonce or Taylor Swift or Jennifer Lopez appears in a movie, we're not expecting award nomination acting from them.

  • Comment removed

  • Aronofsky's "rep" is on the line and so are ANY future projects he wants to work on and his "rep" INVOLVES MONEY so OF COURSE Aronofsky is gonna push back. THINK PEOPLE...... it's called BUSINESS REPUTATION.....GEEZ.....

Oh and for those who WHINE that "why didn't they just get a dancer". My answer is go watch "Center Stage". The lead actress was a corp dancer with the San Francisco Ballet and was hired as the lead actress even though she wasn't an actress.

    And it showed.

    (cont.)

  • Man you people are still bitching over the Black Swan dancing controversy? So what? Aronofsky said Portman danced around 90% of what was shown and Lane called him on it and we know that there was a LOT of digital effects of the movie to make it APPEAR that Portman was dancing so it appears that Aronofsky was lying but what was Aronofsky gonna do? Go public and own up that he was "exaggerating"? Of course not. Come on people of course Aronofsky's not gonna back down.

    (cont.)

  • i am so sick and tired of getting onto youtube and on every freaking swan lake video there is an ongoing discussion about the movie black swan. please, can we keep these discussions to just the 'Black Swan' videos and not on the swan lake ballet vids? im sure most of the ballet community would appreciate this.

  • what age is too late to start ballet?

  • @thebubblegumpop your mothers age

  • @thebubblegumpop It's never too late to start ballet. I'm 21 and starting out. Although there's really no guarantee that you'll ever become professional. You're going to have to work extra, extra hard if that's what you wish to achieve.

  • @thebubblegumpop it's never too late to start... just have the passion

  • Is this available on DVD (or video) does anyone know?

  • Well I love this perspective of ballet, but I think as usual there is too much of something depending the country but then it comes Black Swan wich has nothing to do with all tradition culture and years and years of polishing an idea, but still it takes both perspectives wich I have to say contemporary works better to understand for recent generations, and also to allow reach in a superficial audience that would never think of ballet as cool or interesting, still wouldn't change at all this

  • Who came here just for hear Tchaikovsky?

  • @ThePuppetSaw what else would ya come here for?

  • @ThePuppetSaw εγώ !!!!

  • What's the name of the second song? is it from Tchaikovsky?

  • @chaparra2829 Allegro guisto and yes It it from Tchaikovsky

  • @chaparra2829 all the music in Swan Lake is Tchaikovsky's -.-'

  • Whats in the box!!??

  • In the beggining where is the screen?

  • @thebigdangofamily98 before black swan people used to think i was a boring person because i dance ballet, now they think im cool ¬¬ . But yeah, is good that now they can see how hard it is and they respect us a bit more (sorry about my terrible english) :p

  • @theblacksideofhell Your English is a million times better than my Russian! Cheers and good luck with the dancing!

  • @theblacksideofhell I share this same opinion;) all my whole LIFE has been BALLET and people used to think I was boring because of that and since some people saw black swan now they think I am one of the most interesting person...I don't know if they think I am like Nina or what hahahahhaha

  • @chaparra2829 hahha, at least they don´t think we touch ourself all the time (i hope so)

  • remarkable music and performance.

  • I really want to know if I want to download the very opening music , where can I get it or what scene should I search for?

  • the most beautifan scene ever

  • thats great dance scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @thebigdangofamily98

I agree. I liked Black Swan, but I loved Swan Lake long before that. If anything Black Swan has rekindled my love of it and need to hear it.

  • around the 6th minute it's the 1812 Overture right? Not originally meant for Swan Lake is it?

  • im not saying you dont do ballet but like 1000 people have said that they do ballet in the black swan realted comment sections, so either half of america does ballet, or people lie

  • @thereddeath1100 or people who don't live in america are commenting and saying they do ballet?

  • I'm 13 years old and I have seen Black Swan but I've been doing ballet since I was young and definitely appreciate this.

  • its like 10 minutes dude

  • where's act 1 part 2?

  • I didn't come here because of Black Swan..even though I love that movie...

  • i've being so in love with swan lake for more than 20 years when someone gave a musical box to my sister in her quinceñaera party, i was 5 and secretly look for that musical box and listen over and over again while the littlle doll was dancing...:3

  • @thebigdangofamily98

I hate when people think they've just discovered ballet when they see the mainsteam discuss it. Alas, I suppose it's too late to care because most ballet companies are on the brink of bankruptcy since no one bought a ticket to see ballet for the sake of ballet and not because of some movie.

  • I came here remembering Barbie in Swan Lake ;) My childhood

  • @thebigdangofamily98 Many people are secret ballet lovers and just don't know it yet. I always loved classical, always found it very...I don't know to translate it to english but I thought of it like something that expresses the artist soul even though no word is spoken. In classical latin it would be "ex movere", to move from within to the outside like some greater force (the artist's music) could take - or rather impress - a soul out while it's still there.Ballet pushes this to the very limit.

  • I walked out during the intermission of Sleeping Beauty at my local performing arts center... I was young back then and didn't appreciate ballet, but now that I'm a dancer I wish I'd stayed. Swan Lake totally changed my mind about ballet and Black Swan showed me a whole other side to a production I already adored. Say what you will about the movie. I think it was a great tool to get people interested.

  • wow i am pretty surprised

  • I am pretty sure i am the only person under 50 who has commented on this

    .......or watched this.

  • @thereddeath1100 well, I'm 16

  • @thereddeath1100 most idiotic comment...

  • @ZladkoVladcik

no u would have made it....

  • @thereddeath1100 I'm 23! You're not alone.

  • @GirlNamey

yaaaaay! people under 50 who enjoy beautifal music that makes justin bieber sound like a dying bird

  • Black swan made me want to see the originl!! :D i'm surprised to see it ffected so many ppl!!

  • BELIEVE IN THIS IS BELIEVE IN THE LIFE, LOVE AND ART. wonderfull dancers!!

  • There is nothing more BEAUTIFUL than the sight of a talented

ballerina. They are heaven on Earth.

  • i have over 40 000 sheets for diferent instrument, but i dont have whole swan lake ballet, i have only one swan lake chorcus sheet, its very short, i need more, the whole thing, if you have any sheets for any instrument let me know, and i send you anything as many sheets as u want.

  • @FlinckJanne1981 i have the whole ballet score and parts and many arrangements (the score is very big - about 900 pages i think!!) i can send them to you and anyone else who may be interested :)

  • @brichardson97 Oh my goodness I would love that

  • I came here because the ballett is one of my all time favourites. I was pregnant with my elder daughter when I saw it for the first time, And my younger daughter was 3 years old when we went to see it together. They are still obsessed with it! And the Budapest State Opera House also worths a visit!

  • 14 pepole like justin bieber

  • @mexicanitahonrrada go away.

  • I came here because after watched Black Swan I got more intereseted in ballet, and even when before I have seen little scenes of the Swan Lake I'd like to see it complete and from the beginning :D

  • @bewitchedfanatic you should definitely go to the opera to see it. i've seen it 4 times, it's worth it !

  • I came here because I watched Black Swan, and I wanted to see what Swan Lake looked like. I know the story, but never watched it.

  • why rohbart change Odette into a swan? -.-

  • it's too pitty the fact that if i havent seen the black swan i would have never probably been interested to see how beautiful and magnificent is this

  • @KspyrusTR , same here!!!

  • what's the song name at 2:50?

  • This is a great Video!

  • Only two things make me happier than watching ballet. The pure beauty of ballet is too incredible. I melt every time! :3

  • Hey can someone tell me what is the song that starts at 2:45?

  • Comment removed

  • What is the song that starts at 6:05?

  • @vrae12345 Walts Swan Lake. I have the music for it if you would like :D

  • @dancingrl5678 Yes please!

  • wonderful <3

  • @DNYAP: I am glad to see that movies can still instill a renewed sense of appreciation for lost art forms such as ballet that have become under appreciated :)

@VictimsOfLove15: There is no need to be a snob! The movie took an alternative and dark ballet and simply went beyond it's initial shock value to reclaim Swan Lake's original prowess. There was nothing wrong with the movie and you have no right to judge others for liking it. Especially with as poor of English as you type with.

  • @lorali5385 Mi inglés es lo bastante bueno para ser de Uruguay, ¿no te gusta? no me importa :)

  • TCHAIKOVSKY IS A BRILLIANT MAN! CHEERS TO THAT!

  • @Gnomezonbacon Amen.

  • Who came here after watching the movie "The Black Swan" starring Natalie Portman and became thrilled by the fantastic music and the entangled plot of the ballet?

  • @DNYAP You can't compare "The Black Swan" with TRUE BALLET. This is a piece of art, is awesome. And "The Black Swan" is just a stupid movie

  • @VictimsOfLove15 Ok, don't knock Black Swan. It's my favorite movie. But Tchaikovsky... that man made some of the best music of all time. And ballet is the most beautiful type of dance in my opinion.

  • @DNYAP And I bet that you don't even know who was Tchaikovsky.

  • Чайковский - Гениальный русский Композитор!!!

  • Came here wanting to restore my hope in humanity after watching the new Walmart rap music video -_-

  • Never knew how great the ballet and music of Swan Lake was, now I know.

  • The prologe scene on black swan ?... now i get it why nina said like one of that marinsky production

  • @birbanto24 "tmore like the BOLSHOI's" :o lol ;-)

  • The prologe scene on black swan ?... now i know ...

  • Who came here for both?

  • she seems to fly...

  • Portman did her best and her body appeared to be one of a dancer but you can not replace the skill of a real ballet dancer with an actress that lost 20lbs to play a part. Why do you think the camera shied away from her feet the whole time? I think they should have used a real dancer it would have been easier on the eyes?

  • @jameeliaricks A real dancer couldn't have done the acting on the level that Portman did

~Let me remind you it was a movie, not a ballet... People watch movies for the acting, not for the ballet. It was about the character. Natalie Portman did her best to act like a dancer and she was dedicated you cannot and will not ever replace the skill of a real ballet dancer with an actress, thoroughly agreed, but if they used a dancer the only good scenes would be the dance ones, the rest would fail.

  • @xxxdeppxxx you are so correct. I hate that people are judging her on her dancing and belittling her when her job is based on her acting not dancing. The dancing is an element of the movie but people need to remeber that she had to learn what a normal ballet dancers learns over 17 years or more of their life. To learn ballet, get in shape, learn technique, and seem like you have been dancing you whole life is very challenging....I tip my hat off to natalie.

  • @4everPhantomslover It is so sad that this master piece is shaded from a cheap movie.

  • @4everPhantomslover Im just assuming this comment is about Natalie Portman lol

  • @4everPhantomslover The comment like yours that tell that NP "had to learn what normal ballet dancers learn over 17 years" is why these arguments started in the first place. NP didn't learn to dance like a ballerina, she learned to move arms to be believable and to look like a ballerina - enough to fool people who aren't familiar with ballet. Sarah Lane did full body dancing; Prosa's feet were used too. Granted, learning to move arms and look enough like a ballerina required work too.

  • @4everPhantomslover

NAtalie din't dance. 95 percent of the dance scenes were made by a prima from the Royal Ballet of London, whose name didn't appear in the credits because Natalie Portman asked the director, her boyfriend, to leave her out.

  • @MJJn1fan LOL she appeared twice in the credits, dumbass. I doubt Natalie, as an actress, has to power to tell the director or producer what to do.

  • @MJJn1fan It was soloist Sarah Lane from the ABT. The Royal Ballet had nothing to do with it.

  • @MJJn1fan actually the choreographer was her boyfriend not the director...just saying.

  • @MJJn1fan thats bullshit! ahe did all of the dancing except in 28 of 139 dancing-scenes...you cant excepct her to get all the skills a professional has, in one year! and she is engaged with a ballet dancer...not the director. and sarah lane (her double), dances for the american ballet theatre!!! so theres not a single thing, which is right in your comment.

  • Comment removed

  • @4everPhantomslover you said it. she did an amazing job.

  • @jameeliaricks A real dancer would have been nicer to watch for the dance aspect of the movie, but would the real dancer have won an Oscar for Best Actress?

  • @jameeliaricks Actually, Natalie had a body double that did much (debatable according to media) of the dancing for her. For example the long sequences and the footwork. Her body double is a Principle with ABT (American Ballet Theatre) if I'm not mistaken.

I didn't hate Black Swan, but I definitely think it was over rated.

  • @Morriquinne I didnt know that, well that would explain the weird camera work.

  • @Morriquinne Well Natalie did a lot of it herself, but she did have a double for the more difficult stuff.

"I was en pointe for - I mean, there's no way, obviously, I could have learned, you know, fouette turns en pointe for the film. That's something that takes a lifetime to perfect. So there's a wonderful dancer, Sarah Lane, who did the more complicated pointe work. But I did the stuff that was possible to learn in a year."

  • How is the prologue transformation scene done in live performances? (if it is)

  • Bellísimo!!!

  • i love swan lake!! HOW CAN you compare black swan ballet with real ballet...HOW!?!?

  • i love swan lake!!

  • alright.... yes black swan is a good movie.. BUT ballet is NOTHING like that. this ballet is SO hard. swan lake is one of the best ballets in the world. its nothing like black swan.

  • oh fuck... i just played this video thinking it was only the song.... i got astonished when i saw it was a real ballet video.... oh god.... this goes to "my favorites"..... oh my... OH MYYYYYYYYYYY

  • @Harmageddon69 watch (if you haven't yet) the ABT version with Gillian Murphy: different choregraphy but still incredibly beautiful
