  • Klunk Klunk

  • Poor little bug, I have a soft spot for these little cars, owned two of them.

  • take care of that engine these cars run forever..check teh dog housin

  • wat is a rod bearing?

  • lol take the engine out and put a clock in noone will tell the difference until you get asked to go into gear lol

  • About 3 miles.

  • So? How long did it run like this?

  • motor is dead ....

  • Valve adjuster bolt may have broken off, listen to which side its coming from and pull the valve cover and make sure all the bolts are attached.

  • Sounds like a push rod adjustment screw backed off and let the push rod fall out of the cup..happened to me once.

  • Sounds ok to me

  • sounds like spark knock

  • eeeuuuhhhh your T-BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @rsjagax this engine has not timebelt

  • Thats def more than one spun bearing and it sounds like its got about a cup of oil in it....

  • kid shut the fuck up dont talk when you dont know what you're talking about idiot.

  • @veedubbb yea fuck you too buddy and i highly doubt you know your shit either.

  • Too high pitched to be in the bottom end, sounds more like a dropped valve seat or a bent push rod.

  • knock, knock.

    guess no ones home. haha

  • this engine is already dead

  • my 92 Jetta is making the same noise but there's tiny, tiny pieces of metal in the oil when you check the dipstick, anybody have a clue what this could be?

  • LOL!!!!!!!!

    rod knock...

tiny pieces of metal = rod knock.

    stop reviving the engine...

go pull it, and check it...

  • Motor is done for

  • If you haven't already done it, an engine rebuild. if they look like metal shavings in the oil, it's a head gasket. If they're bigger than that... kiss your internals good bye.

    Again, if you haven't already.

  • head gasket? what head geskets? these dont have any.

  • I was talking to the guy with the 92 Jetta.

  • o got ya now. just was a little cofused for a second

  • you threw a rod.

  • just fit a pendulum

  • BIG ENDS

  • that sounds baaaad.

  • i bet it still drives in a highway.... beetle just immortal

  • Jesus H. Christ!!!! Just hold it at WOT and finish it off!

  • lee5490 said he was going to drive it like this 10 months ago, I wonder if it is still running today?

  • @VolkswagenTube I was joking :). I pulled the engine apart a few weeks after I shot the video. The rod bearing was toast.

  • thats some serious knockin!

  • sounds like a fukin clock lol

  • @deetwizzy like a gun or time clock?

  • It was only a rod bearing. I'm going to drive it as-is with no bearing. I don't care what happens to the crank.

  • If you drive it like that, with the spun bearing...it WILL throw a rod.

  • easy to replace

  • Sounds like a big end bearing to me, open her up and replace it, or lol, get a new car ;)

  • It's an old 40 horse. I don't care about the case. The #3 bearing was toast.

  • I don't know, 40 horse cases arn't easy to come by.

  • Ahhh maby having the fan belt on and not having the engine melt down may be something to think about?

  • Thanks genius.

  • VW diesel, right! XD

  • yep, it's a diesel.

  • u got piston slap like a bitch!!!! turn that thing off. seems to idle fine. aahah. no it fuckin doesnt

  • turn off the damn thing! rod, rod,rod

  • rod broke.. causing piston slap. are all the cylinders firing? test the compression on all four cylinders. tell me the pressure on each cylinder

  • if the rod broke , the engine would shatter...

  • WOW

  • that sounds nasty...don,t think any thing can be said apart from, start saving for a new engine...but do check to see if your cylinder heads are on tight.......
