What are you all stupid people talking about Asians having plastic surgery. Beleive me at least they are not PIGS like t hey have in Hallywood and European females where they will do anything to shrink their noses while enlarging breasts. The pitiful Whites trashes we see today.
So please if you ignorants have no idea aobut music and beautiful cantabile, just be quiet!
well i heard singers dont get their mouth or their jaw done....afraid to destroy the way they sing or something...but its only something i heard....they can get everything else done as long as it doesn't mess up their vocal cords and the way they move their mouth =)
well japanese ppl get it done too..a lot actually. they just dont flaunt it like the koreans bc the culture is more silent and quiet. very hidden about their personal life etc....trust me...koreans chinese japanese..they all get it done but koreans are more loud and dont care what ppl think. =)
japan has the highest plastic surgery rate in entire asia and most of even western nations believe it or not. south korea is actually pretty low in cosmetic surgery rankings however koreans are not shy about it at all as you said. it happens though as we can see with sumi jo
What's the point her concerning plastic surgery? She looks normal to me and every singer (including male) has be wear make-up when singing on stage. Why no people discuss if Pavarotti also had plastic surgery comparing to the pictures of his younger days? Sounds silly, doesn't it? So why you look at a successful Korean soprano and only want to know if she had plastic surgery?
sorry, i don't mean to single out sumi jo. i know many top singers have gotten cosmetic surgery, not just sumi. i'd be surprised if she was the only one.
but this video is about sumi so i didn't think i should mention anyone but her.
When the angels sing ... copied to Sumi Jo! she is one of them really incredible ... ... ... listen to everything but especially at 1:00 .. 1:06 is the other world ....
MISS SUMI JO is really amazing...awesome...she sing with all you soul...unique voice in the word....in that Mozart's Opera ( the magic flute) she truly touch the sky!!!!!!!!!!
She is by far the most consistently accurate singer I have heard on this aria. It sounds effortless to get those high notes whereas I have heard so many other recordings where you can hear the strain in their voices.
Sumi Jo sings so beautifully and accurately, and her runs are breathtaking. What human voice can do! There are many others that need to be appreciated equally and we shouldn't compare one to the other or pick on minor human flaws or mistakes. They've worked so hard and achieved so much, I just am in awe of these opera singers. This clip made me cry to think how much Sumi Jo overcame to be able to sing like this and to reach this far. Her voice needs to be heard more all over the world.
Powerful and triumphant! I don;t know if that is a Korean trait but there are a lot of Koreans in the island of Guam, and they are a hard working and proud people with the warrior's blood in their veins - maybe that explains Sumi Jo's competetive drive, and her energy.
Did Sumi Jo have training as a young girl in Korea?
Yes from what i read, she studied at the Seoul University with the best known korean soprano of that time in Korea. She did not finish her degree though and went to Italy.
awesome...but Edda Moser was quite possibly the best EVER. Huge sound, perfect intonation :) Streich was overrated. Sutherland SHOULD have been the best, but didn't give it her all, singing it down a semitone :(
it does matter, arias should be sung in their original key. And don't get me wrong, I love Sutherland. And believe me, even when she lowered some pieces throughout her career she is one of the best dramatic coloraturas ever, But I agree with JDOpera76, in my humble opinion Edda Moser was one of the best (if not the best) Queen of the Night ever.
Great job, it is interesting to see her in relaxed attire as well. She is spine-tingling good with that role. I might add- an interesting staging of the aria.
The voice and the role mesh perfectly... a revelation.

i do prefer Diana Damraus version, While Sumi Jos is AMAZING, her voice i feel, is to light and pretty for the part, it needs more gravitas

legendary voice. i had no idea she's had plastic surgery done but i guess when you are as famous as her you get pressure
cookiesNrainbows 3 years ago
she has??? well it's a reali common thing in south korea for ppl to do that anyway
yiudiumui 3 years ago
look at her as a child and look at her now. it's obvious. but i understand that plastic surgery is common among celebrities
cookiesNrainbows 3 years ago
but are you sure?? wouldn't it affect the resonance or the projection of her sounds??? is is just the super heavy make up versus no make up??

cosmetic surgery doesn't affect the voice as far as i know. she wears make up but make up does not give you permanent eyelid creases

Diana Damrau wins in emotion in her voice
Sumi Jo wins in clean and smoothness, plus she seems to struggle a bit less.
In all, I'd say the deciding factor of preference depends largely by the tempo.

who cares if Sutherland lowered it? I hate when people judge skill by register and top notes instead of quality of voice.

She didn't "lower" it...it's the Baroque and Classical tuning, which is lower.
