Margaret thatcher and her tories fucked up the UK's mining industry, for no reason other than spite. Ricky thomlinson put it beautifully when he said ' don't worry Maggie. Theres plenty of coal where you are gonna be going!!'.
what about the brave police officers. england need to say a big thank you to the police for all your hard work and being keep away from your familys that at time
@fuckoffnortherncunt Oh yes, well done headcrackers, except that the tory party whose bidding you did,is going to shed a shitload of you in the austerity cuts.Brave my arse, paid shedloads of cash to brutalise their own kind, their own class-a real well done I,m sure.Whilst working people where trying to save their homes, jobs and communities, and ensure a living in a sustainable industry for others.A shameful period in modern history,a turning point in the class struggle.
Mr. Bulldogtools - you seem to be far more knowledgable on this subject than me and I was only five when it happened. I have often heard it said that the miners would have been in a stronger position had a national ballot been called and there had been a 'yes' vote for strike action. Is this right and did the subsequent refusal of miners from certain areas (particularly Nottinghamshire) to strike in absence of a ballot weaken the miners position?
@tomd2103 "Local agreements" was what led to no ballot in Nott,s,that and it was universally felt that the Nott,s NUM and coalfields where not under threat. But all where in actual fact from the beginning of the eighties when an agreement was tried for that no pit would close unless worked out and no longer viable because of.Not all the union was in agreement,to be honest unless everyone is together then you stand no chance. The Tories threw everything they had,and spent millions to win 84"
@tomd2103 Incidentally,Yorkshire was more militant in nature than Nott,s and even now see Nott,s as a "scab area" all these years on.With what faced them,I don,t think they could have won, counties closed down, travel restricted, draconian laws on assembly and other edicts from donkeys years ago resurrected in law,a viscious government hell bent on driving through its policies, employing a known hatchet man and and anti unionist from the USA to do the dirty work of the Tories.Odds too much against
@AgCCannonFodder I think you are a bit confused between communism and socialism. Cuba and Venezuela are socialist countrys, both of which I have visited many times.
@AgCCannonFodder No they did,nt,greed, stupidity and near sighted energy and economic policies from crappy, played out, look after the rich Tory governments did that nicely enough thankyou. That and "New Labour"-Tories with red ties. All the man in the street wants is a living wage, rights against exploitation-which we,ve fought for donkeys years for,and continuity of that work for all who come after.I don,t think you have a clue really.
@MrBulldogtools We all want that, but you have to take account of that fact we live in the real world. Restrictive practices, high wages, low productivity, poor quality and constant strikes, is what killed our manufacturing. Union leaders were very left wing and tried to use the unions as political weapons. I think it's you who has no clue.
@AgCCannonFodder Okay smartarse, now we produce no homegrown energy to supply our future needs, and as a result go cap in hand to any foreigner who will deal with us,till we fall out,all goes tits up,and to wit-we get cut off! Or the prices go through the roof and we are on the hook, and can do nothing. We still use and need coal, and we still are sitting on more than enough to fulfill those needs, with the technology to get and use it.Find some coffee and smell it why don,t you.
@MrBulldogtools Just because I think the unions brought about their own downfall, does not mean I disagree with you about outsourcing our energy. You seem mighty quick to make assumptions about what I'm thinking or believe, so will not be replying after this.
@AgCCannonFodder Do as you please, you can only see the union argument and balance sheet issues-thats whats clear to me about your train of thought. To close an entire industry is far more than an economical issue, and a government prepared to risk the nations energy needs fulfilment in the future, to shut down a trades union over spite, and because it had them sussed is not acting in the public interest at all.You don,t see the wider issues in the closure of the British coal industry.Reply or not.
