Howard Dean made an interesting point on Hardball that the Public Option was always popular, but what people didn't want was govt mandates without the P.O. The lesson is clear: people know true reform when they see it, and they know a corrupt bill when they see it. The president has to listen to Howard Dean and pass true reform across the board or lose all credibility.

If you believe otherwise, you're very confused - squabbling between a far-right party (R) and a right-wing party (D) doesn't involve us, and while we may have a preference between the two, if there were a healthy socialist party we would be delighted to toss both republicans and democrats from office. I am quite familiar with American History, as well as world history. China is not in fact "completely socialist". Its form of socialism was always bizarre, but communism as a system was abandoned over 20 years ago when Deng Xiaopeng's reforms went through.
