From what I've read, at one of the Dallas concerts, Jim lost it, the Energy, as Ray Manzarek termed it. I think he was a different person after the Miami incident. Compare his early pictures to his post-Miami pictures...you'll see that the spark has left his eyes. I believe he had massive depression issues the last couple of years.
I am 41 yrs old born 12/10/70 and IF this concert banner is correct it makes me a day old. ) I always loved their beats their sounds and of course Jim`s voice. To this day i am a Doors fan and always compare The Doors to other music and call me crazy but i will say with out a doubt The Doors in my mind are the true Gods of Alternative Rock Bands and the finding fathers of Alternative Rock. I thank my uncles and aunts for introducing this great music to me.
Whoever you are out there, your greatly appreciated for recording this live. Not knowing we would never hear him or the doors live again. If i could see you face to face i would shake your hand for this.. Thank you whoever you are..
Awesome buildup! Three of the Doors were consistently great. Densmore wrote that 50% of the shows they did were great, 10% were ruined by technical screwups and 40% were ruined by Jim.
Pretty good. Checkin in. Yeah I was drunk. So was the audience. That makes 2 of us. Do the funky chicken all over my empty Parisian grave. Don't believe everything you hear or read. Not even what you see. The hand is quicker than the eye. Then create something new w / your mind. TLK
I was at this concert This is a small concert hall unlike the Dallas Memorial auditorium or Tarrant County Convention Center. They played so great. Robbie kreiger's solos were beautiful.
Jim stood there drinking Texas Tall boys during the solos. This was a professionally played concert and was magical. The photos are correct as this is what Jim looked like then, a bit overweight and with a beard.
@MrHoolits I read somewhere that Morrison stopped performing this song live because some of the lyrics were long winded and due to his drinking and smoking it hurt his voice?
@shaitan9, That could be true. This was so long ago. I do remember that the Doors had a reputation of being loaded and giving bad concerts but the one I saw was truly magical and they played magnificently.
The guitar solos by Robbie Krieger were unbelievably beautiful and I was blown away.
I don't remember if they did this song but they did do Soul Kitchen, The End, Light my Fire and I think they ended the concert with When the Music's Over.
I was so lucky to see them in such a small Theater.
@MrHoolits I used to work for a guy who went to a couple of Doors shows in Los Angeles. I asked him (I was born the year Morrison died) if Morrison was wasted at any of the shows he went to and must have been pretty cool looking back and he told me "No. It wasn't cool. It was a waste of money seeing some fool wasted on stage talking incoherently". I have to admit it I kinda agreed but it was the late 60s-70s and I bet a lot of bands were wasted on stage and Jim was scapegoated.
@shaitan9 true, but hindsight is 20/20 and I bet we'd all agree to go to a show and watch Jim mumbling incoherently...but then again I'd be curious if your friend was one of those guys who would yell, "Light My Fire" when the band was trying to start the song Build Me a Woman.
@GrizzlTooth I wouldn't consider him a friend, just guy I worked for and you're probably right though, him and his wife were assholes. After I left the last comment I remembered he told me he didn't remember half of the shows he went to, so in my mind, it was him who wasted his money. Coherent or not, I would just love to see the Doors period with Jim at the helm.
@shaitan9 it's all good brother...it's a fact that the doors were under appreciated in there time. I think someone once said that "fashion is what seems beautiful now but looks ugly later; art can be ugly at first but it becomes beautiful later.”
Jim was trying to bring Rimbaud, Blake, Baudelaire, Artaud, Ginsberg and Kerouac to the masses and the masses didn't understand him because they weren't as literate as he was :) :) :) Love Ya Jim...I understand You ! ! !
@teg598 The only drug Morrison was addicted to was alcohol... your statement of "overdosed drug addict" is blatantly idiotic. Please shut up and delete your comment - you stupid fucking fool.
@alec12 obviously you dont know what you're talking about so you shut the fuck up It was a lot more than just alcohol. Heroine, cocaine and beer! What a choice haaaaaaabah
@lookout3211 no, alcohol was the only drug morrison was addicted to. Look up tony funches and how he stopped Morrison from using harder drugs whilst Jim was with the Doors... harder drugs scared him.... Sure he tried cocaine, mescaline and heroin but he was never at any point addicted to them... read a book
Wow, never knew they played this live, I know its definitely not great, it was the second to last show he ever played with The Doors. Thanks for sharing!
ask manzarek what jim meant to the band. I'm a singer, try singing on stage, its very demanding, just hearing morrison is one in infinity and HE knew what to do regardless
Anybody know if there is a recording of Riders on the Storm done live in Dallas? I know they only performed it once live and it was one of the two shows in Dallas. If so please let me know. I would enjoy hearing that. Anyway these are great posts. Love listening to these later shows in their career.
@CarGon1 there is a recorded live version of riders on the storm that they did as part of a medly. I hear some guy has the bootleg tape but won't release it without getting compensated. It was on one of the chatrooms of the official doors website if i recall, I'd sure like to hear that.
I DONT THINK THE DOORS EVER PLAYED THIS SONG LIVE! DONT KNOW BUT I MIGHT BE WRONG. AS JIM WENT ABROAD AFTER THEY FINNISHED THE LA WOMAN ALBUM AND THEY NEVER TOURED AGAIN
@emmett931 the Doors played 2 shows while workin on LA Woman, this one and the next night in New Orleans. This show was good, the next he "died" onstage. Thats when they decided not to tour anymore
@emmett931 The Doors played 2 shows while working out LA Woman, this one 12/11/70 in Dallas which was OK and the next night in New Orleans where the mojo finally ran out. Thats when they decided not to tour anymore
@youngmoneyprincess11 i stand corrected then, thanks for the info, and i thought i was their number 1 fan lol, you surley know your music! and what a great album to go out on!!
Jim was a genious dealing with assholes. They where the ones that dragged him down with their assholic attitudes.Destruction by his surroundings!!! He was way above their level of understanding, but the Trolls thought he was levelling with them. They dragged him down!!!I'm talking bout those uptight, moral nights from New Haven and many others;---)
we were smokin pot back in the day an when a friend showed us the connection between jim morrison an mr. mojo risin we were just blown away....this was back in the 70's when pot was pot..not this crap they got now adays...
Jim Morrison... Mr Mojo Risin... write jim morrison on top an mr. mojo risin below it an connect the letters with each letter of its own an watch the letters match each other, you will have no letters left over...
I saw the April 1971 first of 2 Doors shows at Boston Arena which became the CD of that show today---I was 16, and will never forget the wall of sound they produced! Jim was insane onstage
@jyac328 - Strange, isn't it? I was alive, only 9 when he died but I miss him too. Not miss his music, but miss him as if I knew him. You are the first person I've ever heard express what it is I feel. I don't know that pathetic is the right word. Odd would be a better one. Have a good one......
@slipdrum80 True, many of the lyrics in the songs they played that night: in LA Woman, The Changeling, Riders on the Storm differentiated lyrically from the LP release a few months later. The Doors played in Dallas and New Orleans that fall of 1970. The complete concert is pretty good and worth seeking out.
duh....here it is..... L.A. woman...so YES, they did play it live with jim. this is jim morrison, no f#cking doubt whatsoever. the only other singer in 1970 would be ray,
@Lornmac8 Was he the best person in the world at everything? Was he a great skier, swimmer, runner, guitar player, keyboardist, drummer, sax player, driver, speller, doctor, surgeon? Nobody will be the best at any of these things other than Morrison? Wow! He was amazing.
I've read a lot of the comments posted about this, and there seems to be a whole lot of ignorant Doors fans out there. Yes, this is Jim singing, and this was the one and only time they performed this song live. Technically this was their very last concert as well, because Jim passed out cold at the beginning of the New Orleans show that followed, and it was called off. If you doubt what I'm saying, read the book "No One Here Gets Out Alive."
This track is included on the Doors "Boot Yer Butt" CD released in 2004, the production of which had been personally supervised by the remaining Doors. The liner notes state that this concert in Dallas and the following concert in New Orleans are the last Doors concerts to feature Morrison on vocals.
If nothing else, the ear-piercing screams on this track should convince people that this is Morrison - no one could scream like him.
In My Opinion ( Some Might Disagree and that's their opinion ) this is the best Doors Song. Absolute genious. Such a talented band! They'll live forever!! Jim, you were taken from us too soon!!!
I'm pretty sure they never played LA Woman live with Jim. Manzarek said numerous times that right after they recorded the album in studio Jim left and while he was away they went into planning on touring with him as Jim was ready to come back and wanting to sing " LA Woman " & " Riders On The Storm " live, along with others. But. Never happened.
@TheJunksVEVO - Wrong, this is Jim signing and it is live. They had a whole tour planned to promote LA Woman. The Dallas show turned out to be the last full doors show ever as Jim passed out on stage in New Orleans the next night. After New Orl, Ray, robbie, and john decided Jim had enough and didn't want to go on. The remainder of the tour was canceled. But this recording is Authentic Live in Dalles Dec 1970(Last Jim Morrison performance in his Life assuming you don't count New Orleans).
Jimbo was not at the top of his form that night. He'd be nothing at this concert without Krieger, Densmore and Manzarek. Even with them, the audience probably got overcharged that night. Of course I'm not knocking him -- when he was in form the four of them playing as a unit were unforgettable.
yes this is a legit recording...I think it's the only live version of LA Woman that exists on tape.manzarek doesn't talk much about this Dallas gig cos I think he thinks it was not a very good performance...I have heard other tunes from this show as well....
Is this really a legit DOORS live performance? I ask because I just watched a video with Manzarek discussing Morrison's death and he said that Morrison told Densmore less than a month before his death that he couldn't wait to finally play the songs from LA Woman live. In that video Manzarek made it sound like the whole band really wanted to finally perform these songs live giving the impression they had never done so. How do they not remember playing this live if this is indeed the real band?
According to "No one here gets out alive" This song and others from the namesake album were never done live. Goes to show what a load of crap that book was. Maybe just not done enough cause although a rare clip, it shows how much the song lacked without a second guitar track and Jerry Scheff's bass.
@BonScottForever1 they never did i went to c them as the doors of the 21century in birmingham .ray said they never did get to do a la woman tour iv got the dvd what a night ashbury pulled it off good style
@TheMojo27 I know, jim morrison called john about a week before he died, and he said he was looking forward to finally playing those songs from the album live for people
@BonScottForever1 It was notable for the inclusion of the only known performances of songs from L.A. Woman including the title track and "The Changeling" from The Doors' final recorded show in December 1970, Dallas, Texas. doors last show motherfucker, it was our main man jimbo you douche
@BonScottForever1 The Doors' tour to promote their upcoming album L.A. Woman would comprise only two dates. The first was held in Dallas, Texas on December 11. During the Doors' last public performance with Morrison, at The Warehouse in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 12, 1970. please stop responding, you obviously dont know what youre talking about. bands play songs from upcoming albums at shows all the time and this is just that.
@TheMojo27 its weird cause they did LA woman the changeling riders on the storm and even on the albums live in detroit boston and some others they did been down so long but i think what you mean is a promotional tour for LA woman never happened i think they did love her madly too and the wasp was texas radio and the big beat just as a poem and i they also did crawling king snake just no hyacinth house or l'america
@TheKenney81 doesnt neccessarily mean thats jim singing, ray was known to have sung when jim didnt show up on occasion, whos to say that isnt someone else who soundss like him
@BonScottForever1 Well considering none of the guys in the band sound like Jim, I don't think that's likely.
Why are you saying it's not Jim? Of course it's him. They did play in Dallas on that date, it was their second last show, they played New Orleans the next night or something and that was the last concert that Jim sung for the Doors.
@1chamberlain1 and your proof is? come on, give me 100% proof thats Jim Morrison on stage, because when he spoke to John on the phone, he said "I cant wait to finally play these songs live" suck it down bitch, it may be someone who sounds like him
@BonScottForever1 Dude read No One Here Gets Out Alive, the writer who was a write for Rolling Stone and knew Jim personally spoke to band members and they recall this show in the book as their 2nd last. The doors never had anyone replace him when he wasn't there except the other members who sound nothing like him. Dumbass, asking me what my proof is. What yours? You're just a distrusting prick because it's audio instead of film and you know why? Because they couldn't film from the audience!
@midnightnavy2 On July 3rd 2021...50 years gone. I am planning a trip to Paris just to see his grave. Gonna camp out there and smoke a good one just for Jim while listening to Doors albums.
@AykinSkywalker For sure it was played live. In Dallas (on the 11th I think?) and then it was rumored to have been played at their last show in New Orleans on the 12th (again, I think). Its been a while since I've made the Doors rounds here in the internet, but again, L.A. Woman was played live for sure!
PS- The New Orleans show (their last) doesn't exist. No recording of it. No circulating show that is.

If you doubt what I'm saying, read the book "No One Here Gets Out Alive."
echo962 1 year ago

ConTurk 1 year ago
I'm pretty sure they never played LA Woman live with Jim. Manzarek said numerous times that right after they recorded the album in studio Jim left and while he was away they went into planning on touring with him as Jim was ready to come back and wanting to sing " LA Woman " & " Riders On The Storm " live, along with others. But. Never happened.
TheJunksVEVO 1 year ago
@TheJunksVEVO - Wrong, this is Jim signing and it is live. They had a whole tour planned to promote LA Woman. The Dallas show turned out to be the last full doors show ever as Jim passed out on stage in New Orleans the next night. After New Orl, Ray, robbie, and john decided Jim had enough and didn't want to go on. The remainder of the tour was canceled. But this recording is Authentic Live in Dalles Dec 1970(Last Jim Morrison performance in his Life assuming you don't count New Orleans).

dam dude that sucks and im a doors fan and thats my fav doors tune wtf
nobanisnoob 1 year ago
Jimbo was not at the top of his form that night. He'd be nothing at this concert without Krieger, Densmore and Manzarek. Even with them, the audience probably got overcharged that night. Of course I'm not knocking him -- when he was in form the four of them playing as a unit were unforgettable.

I think I have the Dallas show on a bootleg cassette....gotta go look.....
maynardmoleman 1 year ago
yes this is a legit recording...I think it's the only live version of LA Woman that exists on tape.manzarek doesn't talk much about this Dallas gig cos I think he thinks it was not a very good performance...I have heard other tunes from this show as well....
maynardmoleman 1 year ago
@maynardmoleman
it was one of 2 times they played the song live, the other one, i think the last concert overall, wasn't recorded.
OropherThranduil 1 year ago
Is this really a legit DOORS live performance? I ask because I just watched a video with Manzarek discussing Morrison's death and he said that Morrison told Densmore less than a month before his death that he couldn't wait to finally play the songs from LA Woman live. In that video Manzarek made it sound like the whole band really wanted to finally perform these songs live giving the impression they had never done so. How do they not remember playing this live if this is indeed the real band?
FrightNight7387 1 year ago
they never did an L.A Woman tour, but they played some songs off the album...thats what they meant!!!! theres a difference....

According to "No one here gets out alive" This song and others from the namesake album were never done live. Goes to show what a load of crap that book was. Maybe just not done enough cause although a rare clip, it shows how much the song lacked without a second guitar track and Jerry Scheff's bass.

@Snailbarf even ray, john and robbie dont acknowledge that they ever played anything off L.A Woman live

@TheMojo27 I know, jim morrison called john about a week before he died, and he said he was looking forward to finally playing those songs from the album live for people
BonScottForever1 1 year ago
@BonScottForever1 It was notable for the inclusion of the only known performances of songs from L.A. Woman including the title track and "The Changeling" from The Doors' final recorded show in December 1970, Dallas, Texas. doors last show motherfucker, it was our main man jimbo you douche

@xGinseng is that why he left as soon as the finished recording the album you fucken idiot
BonScottForever1 1 year ago
@BonScottForever1 The Doors' tour to promote their upcoming album L.A. Woman would comprise only two dates. The first was held in Dallas, Texas on December 11. During the Doors' last public performance with Morrison, at The Warehouse in New Orleans, Louisiana, on December 12, 1970. please stop responding, you obviously dont know what youre talking about. bands play songs from upcoming albums at shows all the time and this is just that.
xGinseng 1 year ago
@TheMojo27 its weird cause they did LA woman the changeling riders on the storm and even on the albums live in detroit boston and some others they did been down so long but i think what you mean is a promotional tour for LA woman never happened i think they did love her madly too and the wasp was texas radio and the big beat just as a poem and i they also did crawling king snake just no hyacinth house or l'america

TheKenney81 1 year ago
@TheKenney81 doesnt neccessarily mean thats jim singing, ray was known to have sung when jim didnt show up on occasion, whos to say that isnt someone else who soundss like him
BonScottForever1 1 year ago
@BonScottForever1 Well considering none of the guys in the band sound like Jim, I don't think that's likely.
Why are you saying it's not Jim? Of course it's him. They did play in Dallas on that date, it was their second last show, they played New Orleans the next night or something and that was the last concert that Jim sung for the Doors.
1chamberlain1 1 year ago
@1chamberlain1 and your proof is? come on, give me 100% proof thats Jim Morrison on stage, because when he spoke to John on the phone, he said "I cant wait to finally play these songs live" suck it down bitch, it may be someone who sounds like him
BonScottForever1 1 year ago
@BonScottForever1 Dude read No One Here Gets Out Alive, the writer who was a write for Rolling Stone and knew Jim personally spoke to band members and they recall this show in the book as their 2nd last. The doors never had anyone replace him when he wasn't there except the other members who sound nothing like him. Dumbass, asking me what my proof is. What yours? You're just a distrusting prick because it's audio instead of film and you know why? Because they couldn't film from the audience!
1chamberlain1 1 year ago
@BonScottForever1 of coarse that is jim, why you saying its not. Im telling you its him end of. muppet. BLOCKED

noobpowner901 1 year ago
@AykinSkywalker yes it was
sweet89cc 1 year ago
@AykinSkywalker For sure it was played live. In Dallas (on the 11th I think?) and then it was rumored to have been played at their last show in New Orleans on the 12th (again, I think). Its been a while since I've made the Doors rounds here in the internet, but again, L.A. Woman was played live for sure!
PS- The New Orleans show (their last) doesn't exist. No recording of it. No circulating show that is.
