guys, how can this be as good as the original when they didn't actualy write the song? sorry but i'm in a band and it's not actually that hard to re-write an existing song.
I think people don't understand the whole concept of cover ... IF A BAND COVERS A SONG IT'S BECAUSE THEY LIKE THE BAND, SO IT'S SOME SORT OF TRIBUTE , NOT BECAUSE THE WANT TO MAKE A BETTER VERSION OF THE SONG (btw KICKASS SONG)
The instruments in this cover are as good as in the original, but of course you just can't beat Plant on the vocals. So therefore, original is better.
If they can not be like the original did not call .... call it a cover version of the song .... Unfortunately in my opinion a bad version of Immigrant Song.

Wtf? Why do people care if it's "as good as the original"? We've all already established that 99% of covers aren't as good as the original, and even less surpass their original counterparts. Never expect a cover to be better than the original. Just enjoy the song or leave. Shit.
@DeIMarrrrr I will disagree 1000% on most of this comment. Only because i am a huge fan of Great covers. The 99% are not as good as the orginals in my mind is not even close. There are so many songs out there that are covers that nobody relalizes that they are covers. For years Nazareth Love Hurts nobody relalized it was a cover but it is the best version of that song. And almost all of George Thorogoods covers are better than the originals. The rest i agree with just enjoy them for what they r.
Well, I guess on those grounds you can be correct. Zeppelin for example, has so many "covers" it's unreal; half the money they made goes to Willie Dixon haha.
Metallica covers are generally better than their original counterparts, unless they're covering Motorhead. For some reason they can't do Motorhead well.
Dream Theater's got good covers.
So yeah I guess you're right, BUT, the main point was to just enjoy the covers for what they are and not pine over the original.
@DeIMarrrrr the actual thing of doing a cover is for making your version of a song that inspired you as a musician so i dont thing someone can have a valid argument saying "it's not as good as the original" because is their version not a copy, if they like the original then go listen the original...
I agree, completely. Of course, most of the time it really won't live up to the original. The people who wrote the songs knew best how they were done, exactly what amount of power needed to be put into it right down to the iota, and all that stuff. A cover version is, at best, an extremely GOOD knockoff.
It's as you said though, if they like the original better, that's the one they should listen to and not bombard their ears with the music and our eyes with the comments.
Mike muir is the fucking beast!!!!, he just got the eye for talented musicians, drummers, bass players, guitar players, please investigate so many musicians in great bands have been in suicidal tendencies and infectious grooves.... mike muir rules!!!...

@Becks23Cronaldo17 Infectious Groves was/is Robert Trujillo's side project away from Suicidal Tendencies. That's pure Rob, Jason plays almost exclusively with a pick, & if you know what you're listening to, you know that bass track is 100% fingers & slaps.
@Becks23Cronaldo17 Infectious Groves was/is Robert Trujillo's side project away from Suicidal Tendencies. That's pure Rob, Jason plays almost exclusively with a pick, & if you know what you're listening to, you know that bass track is played 100% with fingers & thumb.
