  • “There is no sword art which has continued without breaking off from ancient times in Korea.”

The Annals of the Korean Dynasty

The people are not accustomed to use of sword or spear, defended from enemies only by archery

The king said “There is no swordman in our country at all”

    【July 11, 1594】

The king said “Any sword art has not been passed down from ancient times in our country”

  • I don't care if they are Korean or Japanese, skill is skill and I am in awe.

  • The thing that "the martial arts" were born from the existence of the samurai of the feudal age.

A record is almost left about the origin of the martial arts and martial arts of Japan,

The Korean history document does not exist at all, and the opinion that 花郎 was organized militarily is completely denied.

Clothes and a sword and the manners that a modern Korean martial artist uses again are all the things which imitated the Japanese martial arts after Japan-Korea merger.

  • 1:01 Someone show me how to do that!

  • does anyone know where the music comes from the sound track for this video is awsome and epic would like to know?

  • @1C431USAF Listen kid, you are looking at history in terms of the last 100 years not thousands of years as most of Asia does. Katana is only evolution of original Korean hwando (Hwandudaedo) that Koreans brought to Japan, Sword forging period was brought to Japan from Korea as well as Chinese characters and buddism. I can show you many sword methods from Muye Dobo Tongji used in HDGD that look nothing like any Japanese style.

  • HDGD is the combination of Gicheon And Shim Gumdo, as well as revived sword methods from theeMuye Dobo Tongji- All Korean and unrelated to Japanese styles. Sword differences include a bolt welded to the tang with the butt cap(kashira) being the nut. Korean swords are wider back to blade and thinner side to side(niku?)

  • 본국검 本国劒 (Bon Guk Gum) From 무예도보통지(武藝圖譜通志): It appears Wubei Zhi ( 武備志) written by Mao Yuanyi (茅元儀) acquired the book of sword combat from Chosun considering he compared Chosun sword methods with Dang Un's. It is obvious Chosun Had already developed the manual of Bon Guk Gum ( 본국검 本国劒) as they were compared to Japanese Ssangsu.

  • Korea is a surprising country. No coutries except Korea hold World championship to cheat people.

  • The base of Haidongumudo is Japanese samurai movie.

Therefore, in the world champion tournament of Haidongumudo, they only compete for the beauty of the pose.

  • @taihuu25go

    Basically.

The Korean traditional martial arts do not use Korean traditional clothes and Korean traditional tool.

The Korean spreads it around to the world.

    We taught kendo to Japan.

The Japanese respects us and should thank us.

  • Honestly wtf is going on here.

  • It is the World Championships. The reason there are Korean signs is because they are held in Korea. They are the world championships because members from all over the world come to compete. And the reason the cultures are so similar are because Korea was occupied by Japan and as usual the dominant country forced their culture onto them, as happened with any occupation. The swords are similar because the Koreans obviously saw how the advantage of the curved blade and created their own martial art

  • @SamurangSparky This is a World Championship of liars. Only Koreans can hold.

  • If this demonstration is really "World" Championship as the title says, why the letters in the site were written only in Korean language? It proves that this video is completly nonesense. Koreans are imitating Japanese because Koreans yearn for Japanese.

Muye Dobo Tongji (1790) : Comprehensive Illustrated Manual of Martial Arts in Korea .

[It is an official document at a Korean Dynasty, written by The Korean King order in the 18th century]

Archery was the only martial art that had been practiced by Korean soldiers. They have no skills of sword or spear fighting (17th).

Therefore, Koreans began learning sword skills and others from Chinese.

  • Why does the Japanese accuse the forged Korea samurai and Korea martial arts?

As for the reason, Korea samurai and the Korea martial arts of the imitation insist on a genuine Japanese samurai and the origin of the martial arts, and this is because it pollutes a Japanese samurai and the honor of the martial arts, and an usurption does Japan samurai culture.

  • It is monkey business to insist on the Korea samurai and martial arts without a Korean having existed.

It is a fact that Korea was a dependency of Chinese 明、清 for a long time in 李氏朝鮮 Korea.

There are not society background and the base which there is a samurai.

  • The Korean martial arts and fencing are monkey business.

Because there is not the culture that there was a samurai in the Korean history.

The Korean uses a castle of Japan and the sculpture including the Asura by an image strategy in imitation of the style of the Japanese samurai in HP.

I understand it if I examine it, but, in the Korean Peninsula, culture and the castle of the samurai do not have the trace.

  • Please watch those videos.

  • I turn and why am a kung fu movie?

Do these people think that martial arts are dramas?

Such a useless movement is not martial arts.

The axle of the body moves too much slightly.

Impurity do not hold traditional culture in Japan!

I think and force it to desire why there is bending to the sword whether I am thin.

  • Which kumdo are you talking about? Haidong Gumdo and Gumdo are actually seperate martial arts... Also the idea that an actual martial art can start from a movie is pretty out there, i mean i really dont think shit like gun fu would fly, why? because with a firearm there are basics you need to follow, same with martial arts. and think about this, how the hell are you to fight wars if you didn't know how to use weapons? bows are good, but how are you going to fight closer range?

  • kumudo increased showy movement such as the fight scene of the movie to Japanese kendo.

Therefore actually there is the nonsense skill that is not usable.

    For example, it is ...

It is a style of the fictions which a Japanese movie created to have Daito with underhand.

  • @taihuu25go That is a big negative, this is a demonstrations competition, so they need to throw in the flashy moves for style, but haidong kumdo is definitely usable, and what you fail to realize it actually originated before the japanese style kendo, and kendo has a lot of its basis in it.

  • @Xiox047

    Kumudo was founded in 1980's.

Because Kumudo became famous for a movie, Kumudo attaches great importance to a showy style.

  • Does that mental focus work, or is it just to make it look cool ???

  • Very cool!

  • Korean history=Fantasy

People all over the world except Korea know Koreans are totally liar and are laughed at very much. OK, you can play swinging around sword. Go on.

I never visit here. Bye bye. Have a fantastic day until you die.

  • @TheMidnight5000 shame on u mate..... u r so pathatic idiot with little knowledge when it come to true martial arts. come and see me, i'll slice u up in pieces.

  • well seeing all the people that think they know what they are talking about kinda makes me laugh but it makes me angry at the same time. First off they are not using "Japanese Swords" they are what is called a Jing-Gumb. A Korean sword is different from your katanas. The bend of the blade is different and is much less pronounced than a Japanese one. Secondly swords dont weep as said before they rust and chip. Third doing this is a heck of a lot harder than you give credit.

  • gravity is not the only thing that is used here. the precision of the cuts in this clip are amazing. Go ahead make a video and send it to me showing you can do it i guarantee you cant. respect the people. 4th its just like the Olympics they go to demonstrate your skills. @ the fencer dude sure there may seem to be allot of wasted moves but really there arnt its just the difference in the styles a Jing-gumb is heavier than a rapier and the demos are parts of forms we do that simulate combat

  • each of the straw mats is used as an equivalent to a body so each slice through the mates or bamboo can be seen as a 1 hit kill

  • the only person here i have any respect for is Zorzevic. Learn to understand this WAS for demonstration purposes. these people are there to earn there place in the ranks. they deserve respect for what they can do so dont act like your almighty. they didnt ask to be tapped these are all clips from onlookers

  • Andi i apologize for the rant

  • Practice of Sword Techniques should be learning of the logos which penetrate his physical and mental condition. The logos of the sword links to the way nature is. Respect for the sword is same as respect for the world where we live. So gravity is required in sword practice. It shouldn't be a show for the audience with useless and blinging action. Sword is not a cutting toy. Read the FIVE RINGS written by Musashi Miyamoto.

  • @TheMidnight5000 mate, learn the true history before u speek, cuz i agree with u on respecting the world but, anything that u believe about the japanese are whole lot of crap coming out of their asses.

  • Comment removed

  • why do you all keep on arguing about japanese vs korean sword styles? Your tone tends to indicate you master one of this martial art, but if you really did you wouldn't spill pointless reflections about that and just show some respect to others, and concentrate on your own technical and spiritual improvement.

  • They have no respect for Japanese sword.

They are just self-absorbed. Japanese swordman never use Japanese sword in such a ridiculous show.

They are never swordmen because they just swing around Japanese sword.

Koreans take Japanese sword as just a cutting-tool.

I can hear the swords' weeping.

Look at Japanese period drama. They respectfully treat Japanese sword.

  • @TheMidnight5000

The sword is first and foremost a killing tool and the swordman is a murderer no matter what pretty words you use to dress it up this is the truth.

Respect a sharp steel bar with a handle made for cutting people?Respect is not that cheap my friend...use it for something else.

  • It is true that killing another with a sword does not make one a swordsman, but a murderer. Living by a code of strong ethics and becoming master of oneself, among many other things are what make a Warrior. Any punk can kill. it is easy. What is not easy is to be prepared to die honorably while living justly. Also, my friend, swords do not weep, they rust unless they are polished. Please understand the meaning of this, humbly.

  • @TheMidnight5000 I agree, im not a katana wielder but I'm a fencing competitor and have been one for 7 years now, what I see in that show is useless moves only for the pleasure of watching stupid brats waving swords over the places. A true katana wielder, or any true swordman, would, first, not cut things on tv thinking they're good, second, finish this with one fearful and tactical blow at a precise spot. Completely disapprove this show

  • @StallioN0of0MeadoW than fencin must be for poofters.

  • than you must be very fag to insult a natioanl sport on the internet, I said I disapprove this show but your just a rotted asshole my silly friend

  • They took music from Pirates of the Caribbean, ha ha.

  • What's the music at 8:30 ?

  • well to be fair.... after the japanese BURNED all of our martial arts archives, we took in a lot of their style, but you know... haidong gumdo is a revival of the old korean sword style...and the forms werent made by japanese btw, adapted by them and changed yes.... but originated in china

  • You don't have to take their style. The Korean ways can be revived. You just have to believe that all are in your bloodline. You and your ancestors' feet rest on the same, unique and extraordinary land. And your blood runs through the same veins.

  • Bad copy of Japanese samurai.

  • they are actually pretty good in terms of technique wise.

  • i'm learning kendo because my university only provides kendo club, but honestly I think korean gumdo is superior

  • What's it called when they swing and the straw mats don't fall until a few seconds after? Is that some form of speed cut that's special or is it just the way the mats are set up?

  • Thats call a cut... a REAL cut, is one that simply passes through, there is no falling unless by another force, (something pushes it or gravity etc.)

  • @Wakuzashi It just shows that the cuts are perfect even more so if they don't fall

  • @G1johndom No it just shows their blades are much thinner than traditional katanas.

  • @FatalKnight actually... haidongkums are longer, heavier and thicker than katanas... but not by a lot, and the weight distribution is nearly identical.

  • the katana cuts very much...but the "samurai" have not the control of its sword.

TE NO UCHI IS NOT OPTIONAL..

  • wow! those are way more superior in sharpness than a katana!

  • best be trollin

  • ???

  • best be joking

  • i love the way they cut, looks like the effect describe in the comic!! very nice!!

  • the swords they're wielding, they're not nihonto are they?

  • What's the music at 5:45?

    Thanks

  • Huh??

  • umm... may I ask why?

  • Korean was learn Japanese "Kendo"and"Iaido" ,

but korean was mix to Korean martial art.

And Korean said that The Japanese martial art(Kendo and Iaido) was invent from Korea!

    Arr~!Not just martial art!

Even Japanese food and Chinese culture were invent from Korea!!

  • @mjjlcy So what, imitation is the best form of flattery. Your foolish to think that means they don't have their own strengths

  • @mjjlcy Maybe they feel like stealing japanese culture because japan destroyed korea's culture during the annexation. Everyone copies fuckface.

  • What's the name of the music?

  • Honestly have no clue sorry. Have training 2mro will see if my master knows.

  • Its off of The Pirates of the Caribbean.

  • my mom wont let me do that after what happened last time rofl

  • wtf was that guy with 2 swords doing xD

  • well it is a martial "art" that was a pre-choreographed sequence of attacks counters and movements to make the audience feel in the heat of a battle

  • trust me cutting news paper is harder than it sappears cuz if u dont cut it quick enuf it moves with u

  • actually its pretty easy. if you look you will notice he is using a sharpened sword. Its makes cutting easier. So you don't need the grain to be perfect only the angle of the sword. which is difficult in it self.

  • freakin amazing skill and focus! the fruit was cool enough but the candle at the end...holy crap! XD totally got me beat there...

  • great vid, but bad quality
