The amount of referring blunders that have cost teams games is absurd. England for instance lost out in the world cup due to it. This was bound to happen, players can only reach a certain point of bullshit from them before they will flip. Its only a matter of time before it happens in the bigger leagues in Europe. @Rammunition88 um, first of all the referee made the correct decision here. the player is retarded. second of all, england played horribly the entire world cup, you might have had a point if England has lost by 1 goal but they lost by 3 goals and had 1 goal wrongfully annulled...Germany outplayed them. finally, referees have always made mistakes, but the cameras weren't advanced enough to prove them 100% wrong.

The team didn't try to hurt the referee, one played did. As soon as the team noticed they swarmed him and kept him from the referee. Players get hot and have tempers. But this is un-called for. This player should be banned by FIFA from any future international games and any other games sanctioned by them. The player knew he was in the wrong after the hard challenge. That's why he ran away. :)

when I was a ref, it was in a place that dangerous, unruly players and fans would often verbally challenge and try physically intimidate referees. I have been threatened by players. each time it was a build up of poor decisions on both parties.I think the ref was a naive to assume he is completely safe; marching into a crowd of angry players was stupid. Referees are trained to position themselves so they can see everyone at same time and incidents like this get avoided before they can happen.

In this case the ref allowed the situation to play out as it did, when he could have ended the game, tossed out players earlier, brought his linesmen on the field for consultation, etc. I'm still curious to see how the PKs went down so I don't know how good or bad the calls were.

I'm also a referee. All three retakes were legitimate - the ref had the guts to call infractions (offensive players in the box early - keeper off his line twice) that most refs wouldn't. Perhaps if the rest of us refs called the game the way the rules state we should, we'd all have more control over the game.

He should have had a lifetime ban. 27 games is a slap on the wrist.
