These Soviet directors of the time had to work within the political constraints of the time. The political message is overblown. However, there no way it could ever overpower the incredible imagery of this film. This film was rescued from obscurity by guys like Scorsese. In the end, the Cubans didn't like it and neither did the Soviets.
why do we pretend this is without any truth? oh it's propaganda, like most classic hollywood, for different ideals. in terms of cinema, the aesthetics and the imagery here are what's most important, true, but I wouldn't love this movie if it wasn't emotionally truthful, and if I thought it was pure technique in the service of ideological bullshit. until you've lived somewhere colonized, impoverished by rich motherfuckers, in cahoots with uncle sam, try to avoid saying the message is "overblown."
Amazing film, spoiled by the voice over, which shows us that the Russians were more interested in the propaganda part of the film rather than the artistic side. Russians...even 20 years after the collapse of the SU they're still in a pig slumber...
I found a video of the shot taken on the roof with a different song attached to it. It was kinda Acid Jazz. Loved the song but can`t find it anymore...
can this look any more white ?,... all i wanna see is Marpessa Dawn
