i can see how the free market system is an attractive option. it takes power out of the hands of the few and gives it to the people by deciding what they want to buy/support.
HOWEVER this hinges on whether or not the public knows what they're supporting. the free market only regulates itself if there is complete transparency between producers and consumers. until we can trust corporations to be honest about how they do business, we need regulation to protect people from being abused.

The relationship between them and employer is perverse. If a private sector union used their membership fees to buy off the company leadership to give them better wages, they would go to jail, but the public sector unions are allowed to use the public money to buy off the officials to give them more public money.

They tell Mr. Phillips what to do! So in turn, they direct the organization where to go!
