I love the temate ( that'swhat they are called)!!! How can someone call this abusive. This a dance that has existed in the Dan culture for centuries. None of the performance I have seen have ever gotten hurt and if you seen the temate you know at one point one of the girls land on the knife no injuries. The adults even stab themselves with no injuries. I question I

Female circumcision is a tradition in some parts of the world, but it's still not an acceptable thing to do. So, please do not take tradition as alibi to do bad things.

this is only done with girls up to a certain age. Later their bodies are not so pliable.

The girls aren't hurt in the process. YOu can't compare this to female circumcision even if both are tradition.If the young girls were hurt in the process do you really think that

they would be doing this? How cruel do you take them? Look into this tradition before making quick judgments.

What I´m qualifying as dangerous, it's not the flexibility of the girls but the fact that the guy is throwing them in the air holding a knife under. That's what I'm talking about. And I'm not making any quick judgments. It´s been years of observations. And I still say it is DANGEROUS. SHIT CAN HAPPEN.

I can understand your beef with the knives, but I would rather cry foul when it's something like female circumsision.

It's a traditional, cultural thing. You're being very ignorant to that by complaining about it being dangerous. You're too used to North American culture where they're very anal about safety. In Africa, that's a risk they're willing to take. It's just the way of life there. If you don't like it, then you can refrain from doing that with YOUR kids. Otherwise, don't complain. ;p
