  • Music sucks, I would rather hear the truck engine

  • C.O.E. = cab-over-engine. That's what they were calling them in all the technical literature I ever read from the year I started truck driving, which was 1974. The reference to "White" Freightliner has nothing to do with the color of paint. White, Inc. was a big truck manufacturers, and Freightliner was a model they built under contract to Consolidated Freightways (CF). I remember in the 70"s CF's trucks had a slogan painted on them saying "Consolidated Freightliners."

  • that nice cabover that well taken care of.

  • De-regulation of freight was a big killer of those trucking companies...Was it Sea Train or Sea Land?..Sea Train, I think that the owner wouldn't go along with the Mob and closed his gates...Pressured the company out...I've never heard the term cab over engines myself as being COE...I've had a commercial license since 1975...

  • @glk001 it was sea land

  • @libwalt Was it Sea Land?..I thought there was both, but too long ago...Thanks...

  • Cool, but dump the music, ot at least fade it down, so we can hear the truck !

  • great looking truck nice job

  • cool old truck

  • Unfortunately, the first thing that comes to my mind looking at this truck are the late Gene Tracys routines about "dumbass ol' Carolina Freight driver". LMAO!!!

  • Nice! Were'nt those actually a White Freightliner "SD" ?? ..my dad drove one of those many a mile for 'TIME-DC' back in the early '70s.

*I made a slide-show video for my daughter using a Journey song, and the good folks at Sony took it down.

  • hey r u a truck collector? r all these trucks yours? or do you use them for work i hope on restoring an oldover cabover one day jus to collect!

  • man i wish i had this truck

  • I love those we lived not far from a cosolidated hub i seen em alot single rear axle though what a great era!

  • When that truck was built did it have either air conditioning or heaters?

  • u must live in Western North Carolina 2 hav a 828 area code,i live in Northern South Carolina i should know

  • Awesome truck! I like the cast spoke rims. Why did those asses take that James Taylor song off? What is the name of this song?

  • Why did those asses take that James Taylor song off?

  • Right From Wikipedia. Cab-over, also known as COE (Cab Over Engine), cab forward, or forward control, is a body style of truck or van that has a vertical front or "flat face", with the cab of the truck sitting above the front axle.

  • Is that Claremont?

  • xd i would buy it but im not living in USA and im no 18

say is it a roadranger or a 5 and something?

  • if carolina ever started back up they would want this truck back lol

  • sweet traveled many miles in one of these except not day cab

  • IS IT A FLB120

  • @mccrackenphillip um its a White Freightliner

  • this was the bust company a man could have drove for! these kids out here never got to drive for real companys, all the good ones are gone its a damn shame; good ol deregulation pushed us off the hiway @ and were replaced by sub standard companys

  • Looks like she's in real nice shape !!!

  • those trucks ruled I 95

  • dude i want a white freigtliner so much!

  • What a wonderful video! I love the vintage trucks, it reminds me of my dad.

  • Nice vid.

I'm restoring a 1969 White Freight Liner COE and trying to find manuals for these trucks. I need the suspension info bad. I have what some old timer call a 4 leaf rear suspension. I need info on repair and upgrades if possible.

  • really its a CO not a COE. COE means cabover extention which had a bump in the front. that is just a cab over. I do remember Carolina as well as many other trucking companys that are gone :( and I do remember this one very beautiful good luck to you always with it.

  • I'm 44 years old and I have always only known them as Cab Over Engine's therefore I rest my case on the COE. That's my story and I'm stickin to it! But Thanks for the positive note.

  • /the Internatonal C/O made in the late 70s and in the 80s were called just that. C/O's But hey food for thought. Like here some more food for thought, Interstate systems, APA. AAA trucking, CF Consolidated Frightways, Preston 151 line, Pilot, St. Johnbury, Branch, Wagner, Union, Woosters motor fright, all gone.

  • @classicpower07 would this truck be for sale possibly????

  • yes, If you are a serious buyer you may call me at 828-612-3447

  • @classicpower07 yup thats the real term that fool is on one lol dude do u restore these trucks?

  • COE means Cab Over Engine This is coming from a 13 year old my granpa told me its Cab Over Engine and hes be driving trucks for I dont know how long

  • @MrRackensack - COE means "Cab Over Engine". NOT extention as you mentioned. Look at any lititure for COE's. It will say "COE" and not "CO". I made my living for 28 years in a COE and the rest in a conventional before I retired 13 years ago.

  • If thats the case I stand corrected. However there is a thing called the CABOVER EXTENTION. That is the bump in front where the engine is NOT totally over the cab. GMC, Ford, Diamond T, as well as many others, made the cabover extentions. But ok COE is cab over engine. but it is easy to see why it is a mistaken.

  • @MrRackensack - No problem. The ones your talking about were also know as "Bubble Nose" trucks :)

  • only adiment about it from what my grandfather told me when used to deliver milk with horses. There is also something called the cabover frontliners which were common in the 90s. J.B. Hunt had a bunch of Internationals like this White/GMC made few of them too. Pretty much after 2000 Cabover overs were gone.

  • @MrRackensack (C)ab (O)ver (E)ngine. Yes they are referred to as Cabovers, but COE is the correct abbreviation

  • I really enjoyed that, thanks!

  • very nice lookin old truck. its like a rolling piece of history. I was not even born yet when that truck was made but I have a great deal of respect for teh old classics and would love to drive one some day. great truck.

  • Good looking truck.Lets hear The Cummins Diesel

  • This montage reminded me of how I miss seeing COE's on the road, and how many sharp looking fleets have gone under! Would love to see a group shot of restored Freightliners for C/F, PIE, Time DC with your beautiful tractor!

  • Man that truck brings me back, the was a small depot near my Army post, I saw these guys everyday. Good looking fleet.

  • nice job,the truck looks great

  • What EXACTLY is that type of cab called? I have seen several with what looks like a sleeper behind them, but I want a cab just like that.

  • You are in luck, I have another one of these that I can sell. It is an ORIGINAL Carolina Freight tractor,290 Cummins,10 speed and Budd wheels for $3000. It is in good shape but needs restoring.

  • what year did carolina go undermi remeber seeing those trucks when i was a kid

  • 1995

  • What a sharp truck!!

  • my kin people owned that company, i miss seeing those trucks pass my house. great vid!!!

  • That wagon is better than when it came from the factory.

  • very beautiful classic truck and very well done video!

  • Tell me that cop isnt giving you trouble at 2:17.

  • In regards to the music issues here, you can file a complaint on YouTube saying that you want the original music back. It works 99% of the time, and in the complaint, begin it with the following words: "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976 ... allowance is made for "fair use" ..."

  • Love it! I've always liked trucks with a 'no-BS" air about them, and nothing says "no bull" like COE daycab LTL tractors.

Probably one of the last tractors that Carolina bought before they switched to Budd wheels.

  • Nice truck and good music. I would have preferred to hear this truck run than the music.

  • that has a range selector right?

  • Is White Freightliner still around today?

  • Freightliner is, but there is no longer White Freightliner.

  • I'm pretty sure. I've seen newer models of Freightliners on the road.

  • If memory serves, White split from Freightliner to combine with Volvo. Freightliners are still being made as well as Volvo.

  • @june201955 - The name White Freightliner was used only because Freightliner (which was made by CF for CF use only to begin with) had an agreement with White Motors to sell their truck through Whites dealerships. White had nothing to do with producing them, just the sales. Then Freighliner developed their own sales division so they dropped White in their truck name before they went to Volvo. Still a lot of people think that White Motors made Freightliners but the fact is they didn't.

  • Thankyou for the info.

  • WOW..

  • reminds me of the '68 kw green coe i drove around denver for merchants fast mtr freight

  • I would have loved to hear this old classic truck rather than the music.

  • YEs I KNOW you and everyone else! I only had a short bit of music called Carolina On My Mind,,,YOUTUBE took it off and put that CRAP all the way through the video,,so now we cannot hear the old Cummins! THANKS Youtube! YOU SUCK!

  • great job you and your helper did restoring that cabover

  • Man!!!! That is is one good looking old beast!! I never knew that CFC had them with Datin Cast-Spoke wheel rims, but it sure looks good with them!! It's a pity I never saw them on the road several years ago. Good Post!!!

  • The song heard here, James Taylor's "Carolina In My Mind," featured The Beatles' Paul McCartney on bass/harmony vocals and George Harrison on guitar (the latter is anonymously credited).

The song was rerecorded and rereleased in 1970, which this version is probably from.

  • Carolina Freight Carriers also operated a fleet of Ford WT-9000s. I discovered a photograph of one in James Wagner's history of Ford Trucks (Ford Trucks Since 1905), in the 1975 section. Presumably those WTs also employed Cummins 290s and RT-910 transmissions.

  • IIRC, a lot of Carolina's Ford COEs had Cat 1674s in them.

  • Brad, nice truck....I luv old rigs myself...

  • Beautiful truck. One of the first trucks I drove was an early 70's Freighter half cab that was my friends girl. That was a going truck.

  • where do you find all of the old trucks good job they look cool

  • that is my favorite half cab-cabover of all ,you did a wonderful job

  • brad u love them red trucks

but u need to bring this beast to the truck shoq next year

  • I worked for Carolina Freight Carriers for 13 years before ABF purchased us where I continued to work till I retired in Feb. 2005 *Teamsters Local 701* New Jersey

Great memories seeing the Red, White & Black!

  • Its beautiful, cant beat an old LTL workhorse. Good job guys!

  • Such a handsome old chap.
