Im still a novice student in pc servicing and even I can easily troubleshoot the smallest problem of a unplugged ide cable or even if a power supply is bad, if the hard drive is bad or unplugged you will get a no operating system found error. there is no exuse for this ignorance
this same story has been done numerous times, the exact same way, disconnecting the hdd. that being said that computer needs to be set on fire anyways. and best buy knows nothing of the products they sell. i had a "sales" guy argue with me over a computer because he thought he knew more than me, and really set me off when he was pushing an antivirus that sucks and i told him i use a different one because i have for years and never had a problem, but he started getting mad. i put him in his place
These videos are embarassing. I'm a geek squad employee and we fix problems like this on the counter at no charge all the time. Don't let a few stupid people deter you from good service.
@hcsepyon Don't worry, there are lots of places other than Best Buy / Geek Squad where we can get good service consistently, instead of rolling the dice at your place. This is a recurring theme chain-wide; just look at the news reports on YouTube.
Gotta love scammers fucking cunts. I've corrected best buy geek squad a few times while waiting on my pre-order. This old man brough his desktop in. I swear they make shit up to sound like they know what they're talking about and of course the old man doesnt know any better and just nods his head and asks how much? I told the old man to go elsewhere. They lied to him to his face and wanted $155
well of course it is simple to fix if you know what you are doing. Think about all the times people go to the doctor with a cold. The doctor can take 1 look at you and tell you that you have a cold and you will get better on your own, then he charges for your visit. Same thing with cars, I change my own oil in my car and it takes me about 30 minutes but some people take it to the dealership and get charged $60. Changing your oil is as easy as reconnecting a cable. People get paid for their jobs.
@ubiquitinJF I was thinking the same thing. Then I saw those stacked old PCs and realized that this was obviously an old news report probably filmed back in the late 90's or early 2000's. Almost every computer is either a tower or all in one now (not counting laptops of course).
@outatime1955 man i agree they charged me 690$ man im fucking 12 years old where do they think im gonna get that money the secret was that the laptops system was turned off man who trains these guys MONKEYS
I can understand charging for the service of fixing the problem. But NOT condoning the ass holes that say it was broken.
The cost of waiting on a silly unplugged wire is the same as solving a problem sometimes that IS a genuine problem like a blown capacitor.
So charging and telling you it was a silly unplug is fair. If you bump it and knock it loose (example). It may cost you. If free. Yer lucky. But don't be an asshole and argue it was only a a plug because they had to still solve yer idiocy
for god sake just send it to me and i fix it for free and i will even show you what is wrong with it people these day trying to take over other people
@BigDTinyE Same. I'd ask what changed between it working and not working and if they don't mention anything that would make anyone open the case I'd not open it right away either.
I'd find it soon probably and just charge em $5 for my time rooting around in the bios.
I do this but for phones and other media devices. I never went to any kind of school or had any training. I work as a repair technician for a used and new phone kiosk and I always encourage customers to watch me fix their shit if they want to. I think this is why we bring in so much business where I work because people can actually see what your doing and the tech doesn't have a wall or door to hide behind to make up bulshit about whats wrong with your electronics. Thats why I prefer a kiosk...
more people need to finish school and bring us some real problems. i fix 200 simple things like this a day for free. Think, if I even charged just 5 bucks for each one.. I'd bank. Its no scam
anything is easy when you know what your doing, when ya dont you pay the price. i cant fix my car when it breaks, so i PAY someone, i dont care if its easy i'll pay for it. b/c fixing a car is not easy for me.
Fix your own computer and avoid crazy costs for one price, learn to setup wifi, remove viruses with/without software, diagnose hardware PC components, facory resets and remove windows passwords adn much more!!!:
I work on computers and I always do a visual inspection first if i don't find it then i go into CMOS to find it that way and if it is something easy as an IDE cable i fix it for free, Even to open it i don't charge one penny for computer i work on even if it needs a CD Rom i have used ones here and i tell the person that it is used and i have no idea how long it will last but if it dies bring it back and i will replace it. I even have used hard drives that i use that are check for overall health
Stupid costs money. I never did one of these for free. I always figured if you had a cable unplugged you were messing around where you shouldn't or you are a news agency. Either way It got fixed and I charged you for it. I don't know why people think a simple fix should be free. You are wasting the businesses time with that when they can be fixing someone elses computer.
@PsychoDaveFilms, not knowing about computers does not make someone stupid. These stores are taking advantage of people and aren't being honest about the nature of the problems. Pushing in a cable connection, something that takes 2 seconds, should be complimentary. Customers will reward honest businesses by returning in the future. I doubt you were very successful as a computer fix-it guy, seeing as how these days you post lame, childish "wheelie" videos that no one wants to see
@sndblstr I love when someone insults my videos when they don't post their own. Oh Well I don't care I still make money off haters like you clicking through them.
Obviously you know nothing about business. Never give anything away for free unless it is a promotion. Most customers will expect it the next time and when you charge them that time you get negative word of mouth. Though I am curious.. do you pay someone to replace your cars air filter? That is a 2 second job that is always billed.
my uncles computers hard drive cable was disconnected and went to the geek squad and paid 60 bucks (i think) and said they needed a new power source. they said no and came to me. i found the cable and connected back in and were surprised that they got ripped off
@johnnymac497 i take offense to that. tell me how i ma retard? i fix my machines (i have 4 lol) i fix my relative's machines and friends. i don't charge a penny. i'm hacker/nerd or "retard" as you put. the people close to me i help. before you go saying certified this ot that, i have built my last 2 machines, salvaged parts to make working machines, and diagnosed and repaired software issues fresh install. i've been 100% successful. not trained but not retarded. they are not that complex.
Some of them are fraud. But I don't like the reporter making it seem like pushing a cable back in is not worth $50 or $60. That's crazy. You hand me a computer and tell me it's all fuked up. I could spend a good 30 minutes on it before I check the cable. It's so unlikely (but probable) that is the case that it's not going to be the first thing I check. So after I've given the device my professional time, just to discover that the cable is loose..how can that not be worth $50?

These scam shops send that extra money they make to their favorite terrorist networks.
That's why when you scam at the computer repair station , you get charged with global terrorism.
and guess what , americans are sick of that shit and will walk in their and blow some heads off with a shotgun.
