Hello I have been thinking of ways to improve VAWTS like savonius - and have posted a new movie to show my idea - hope it might help. I think it would be suited to plastic designs like yours. Cheers, Sam.
No, there wasn't a generator hooked to it. I have most of the stuff I need to finish it but I got distracted. I'm in the process of making a vawt almost ten times as big though.
With the larger project I don't know if/when I'm going to get back to this.
why dont you stagger the blade sections to make it smoother, e.g cut the barrel halves horizontally into10 sections rotate the second piece 36degrees clockwise, then rotate the third piece 72 (36+36)degrees clockwise and then the third piece 114(36+36+36)degrees clockwise and so on. it would create a sort of spiral that would be smoother and less jerky, you might need to stagger it like start at the top and bottom and meet halfway so you dont get lurching effects but can you try it and postavid?
Thanks. What really surprises me is how quickly it responds to changes in the wind. It could use some adjustments and fine tuning still but you're right, I need to get it finished and put up!

Good work. It's always good to follow through and get an idea functional. Now you need to get it hooked to the pump and up the pole! Good luck.
