Oh - and One more thing - the development of Chala Nata often took place in our home in Cumbrian Gardens, London NW2..and Maynard's horn could easily be heard by our neighbours!! Fabulous memories - thank you so much for uploading. My best wishes to the family.
Maynard was a wonderful inspiration. In this clip he is playing with Vemu Mukunda on the Veena (not the Sitar) and my mother (Mrs Mohana Lakshmipathy) is playing the Tamboura. I am sorry I cannot recall the name of the Tabla Player. On the tour she also played the Veena and I accompanied on the Tamboura. Maynard was at the cutting edge of fusion music. He and his wife were among the nicest people I got to know.
Lisa Ferguson, Maynard's daughter, this is my single favorite clip of my father...you aren't claiming to own this clip when you say it is in your "private collection", right, you just post what you find and that you love? Best, Lisa
Thanks! My favorite album of his. Tried to get on his band but never made the grade or broke the code. Was privileged to hear him at rehearsals at the Local 47, was always floored by his playing and great life attitude. Great vids man, thanks again.
Boricuajazzz8 you are amazing. I can't get over the fact that you have such a large collection of incredible jazz videos. I am forever grateful for your generosity. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Wow! Thank you so much for posting this and the other Maynard videos. This was one of my favorite Maynard Ferguson periods. The band is hot, the charts are great, and Maynard is in top form.
Classic rocket fueled raga, with MF hitting the transcendantal nerve at 4:27....God I never forget this chart in Tulsa in about 1977, complete with sitar player. Stratospheric high still to this day.
by the way, is there anyone that knows what scale its based on, can it be a todi?
