Love the handlighting....screw the electrical! No doubt soon everything will be E-Fire-mandated which will kill dozens of small shows out there...the ones I particularly like:(
@Elfeercachj01 If he could read English he would know this video was not intended to show fireworks in the sky; there are lots of videos like that on Youtube.
Could they use some kind of electronic trigger and stand at a safe distance. Setting them off one by one, manually seems like it could be kind of danergours.
@ekujlw32y I am a stage pyrotechnician and we always use electronic firing systems. Safer for the pyrotechnician, but relay more on the equipment. With all the professional firing systems today, like the Mini 96 and others from Pyromate there is no need to risk your health with manual firing shells.
@jenstf I hear that argument a lot. The truth is going all electric adds a considerable cost to a show this size in an already very competitive market. If you figure the body has 400 shells, that's 400 e-matches, lots of wire and 3x the labor. No "small" firing system is going to have 400 queues. We use HDPE mortars which are extremely safe, that coupled with safety gear makes this very safe, and a lot more fun.
@jenstf I agree with your comment. This just seems danergours to me, at the end of the day, your dealing with high explosive. I can understand that going all electrical would add costs to the show, but would such a system be a one off investment? I would just hate to see someone get hurt from one of these fireworks.
The finale racks were setup great with a awesome rate of fire. My hats off to you briankirk1969. The time it takes to setup all that (main and finale), fire it safely, and then clean up afterwards. That was a superb job of handfiring and I look forward to seeing more vid's from you. btw I did NOT see a single rack nor tube "jump" during the finale..goes to show thetime you took for a safe fire!!
@greghuckleberry Thanks for the kind words. Check my channel for the 7/04/11 video. In that video we used a much stronger system to secure the finale, it involves a 15,000lb rated chain, 2 chain dogs and angle iron corner braces that is 10x stronger than the nails and strapping method; not to mention faster. The finale goes together and comes apart in mere seconds.
In your finale, you should stagger the racks just like the main show. If you have 1 shell detonate in the middle it will throw the racks apart and you will have a very bad situation. Also, try using a propane torch with a trigger lighter. It wont kill your night vision and you will be able to see when the fuse is lit better.
@tonybiggungambini The way the finale is put together is plenty strong. I've had shells detonate in the tubes in the finale and it holds together just fine. Often you don't have the space to arrange them in the fashion you suggest. The propane torch idea is just horrible. Go look up the expansion rates of propane from liquid to gas then from gas to flame. Are you a licensed pyro or an arm chair expert?
@mongyaj Next time read the description and the comments. This video was not made to show you the aerial shots, it was made to show you the shooters perspective.
I just did a search on Youtube for "Grand Finale" and came up with 1850 results. I sifted through the first 200 or so videos and they are all aerial shots (looking up). There aren't too many from this perspective which, again, was the point.
I agree, the whole show should have been recorded but, sadly, the person I put in charge of filming that night is an idiot.
@briankirk1969 I actually like this particular perspective. Not many people get to see what us pyro-technicians get to see. This is a real good view of what it's like. The audio is pretty close too. I have one that I need to post from Lancaster PA a couple years back of just the finale from about 20 ft above ground back down to the ground. Unique view that's for sure.
@Booger6995 I tried to upload that Lancaster video and Youtube just pixelates the crap out of it. Can't figure out why though. Anybody got any clues as to what I can do to get it to upload better??
WOOOW! Thanks for sharing that. That finale was amazing, over 400 shells? 3" mostly, or bigger? I see the last of them are bigger mortars, maybe 5 or 6"? excellent video
Yeah. That was more or less the point behind the video - to show what it looked like from my perspective. Everyone has the ability to see/film fireworks in the sky, not everyone gets to see the show from 20 feet away. If you want fire in the sky there's a multitude of videos out there.
There were about 425 (give or take) shells in the finale. There are usually around 950 shells in the entire show with one third to one half being in the finale. The company is Hale Artificier out of Lexington, NC. I've worked for them since their inception.
