The synchronization is subpar and there's no effects to help ease the transition between scenes. It moves at a slow pace and its popularity honestly seems to be stemming from the popularity of the show it derives from.

Your a fool... Dragonball Z is one of the oldest animes and several animes are based off of it whether it's the fighting style the energy blasts or just the whole damn thing (Sonic the anime is just like that except with animals instead of humans and aliens)

Without DB/DBZ/DBGT some of the best anime probably wouldn't be as good as they are.

Dbz wasn't over dramatic the only thing it could've used work on is the extreme length of time it took for some of the people to charge there moves, but it's usually the whole dramatic part that catches peoples eyes and makes them watch anime, and even TV... ie: Soaps... I don't like them but lots of others do. It's all a matter of opinion. You can't expect everyone to like the same thing right? No, of course not that would make everything the same routine and that would be dull...

Energy blasts are as old as dirt, and super speed movements have been depicted by having a person just flash out of sight since as early as corner store comic books. Don't even get me started on getting tossed through stuff.

Additionally, there are plenty of fictions that pull off the fighting style a lot better than Dragon Ball ever did.

Sorry to say it, but a lot of what kept DBZ from standard fighting was the SFX.

I also don't think that anime shows draw as much inspiration from it as folks try to say.

It's okay to like a show like DBZ, and sure, be proud of it, but when you start trying to thrust your thoughts around and insist that everything draws from it, that's taking it too far.

@NeonBlue27 C, here's where I think ur wrong - other shows and comics may hav all these elements, but rarely hav I seen any that use all of them in such perfect synchronicity. Any that do come close, are post DBZ. Superman may b capable of doing all the stuff u describe as not bein original or unique 2 dbz, but he never started doing that till recently, ie AFTER DBZ GOT POPULAR HERE. Compare Bruce Timm's Superman action scenes and his JLU 1s - u can c the post-dbz generation influence.
