@TheDanster4 Solo skaters still practice with other skaters and still can crash into them, can fall and hurt themselves without anyone else around also. However I would think they could practice with head gear and padding until they get it right and so limit dressing like this to mostly only when they are performing in front of crowds. Even with helmets and pads though they can still get hurt.

I am never doing pair skating. Stick to solo and it will be a lot less dangerous, but it will require a lot more work. I'm skating right now, even.

The Jaime Sale incident was totally preventable. I don't know why Jaime was out there by herself skating across the rink, she's a pair skater. That incident contributed to the bad feeling surrounding the "dual" gold medals in 2002

All the falls are very unpleasant to watch, but I suppose the worst fall is fall of my favourite couple Totmianina and Marinin, it's really awful

@undinaful No, the worst is at 3:00. She actually, LITERALLY, went face down in to the ice, while the rest of her body did a back flip. That was just horrible.

See this is why I don't want to do pair skating. :p lol. If I fall, it's because of me, and I don't have to worry about any one else crashing in to me, or tripping over me.

@Indiegirl007 Certainly it's terrible, but she stood up and went herself to her coach (I saw it in another video), while Tatyana lost consciousness and came to herself only at hospital and she said she didn't remember anything and few month after when she saw the accident on Tv and she was really shocked. And her partner blaimed himself and he needed the help of psychologist to skate again and Tatyana supported him a lot. Before the accident they quarrelled often and after they became careful

Really there's only like 5 or 6 falls that were actually bad. A lot this video was just repeats or just falling on a jump, which i've done before. This video really doesn't phase me. I still want to do pair skating more than anything right now. You made it look like you could barely find anything wrong with pair skating. Dube and Davison didn't even fall, they just had a little stutter.

@billiejean1977 It was their free program in 2005 in Torino at the European Championships. I didn't find the full version of 2005, but there is the same program at Skate America 2004 on Youtube with the same mistake in the same lift (name of the video: Obertas & Slavnov 2004 Skate America)

Her reaction, or lack of it, after that terrible fall, still does not look good on Julia Obertas. She still comes under a lot of fire for what some perceive to be a selfish reaction on her part.

If anything, I can sympathize with the fact she was very young and didn't know how to help Mr. Palamarchuk.

The fall causes her to drop down on top of him and partially drive the side of his head into the ice. I could be wrong on that, though.

The increased popularity of lifts during pairs skating competitions has added an element of danger to this sport.

Then we have ice dance which also is figurte skating in pairs, but ice dancers are not allowed to jump and do high lifts.

Usual figure skating is the single genere. When girls or boys skate alone on the ice.
