  • IT'S BARKLEY!!!!!

  • Ms. Knight is brilliant. She can and does sing anything, anywhere. The greatest. Thanks for this post.

  • THIS!!

  • Now THIS is what I call a performance to see Gladys Knight and the Pips on Sesame Street was AMAZING and I do remember watching this when I was little and it was the 1st Primetime Special of SS that I ever saw and it was great to see everyone from the puppets and the humans from Gordon, Susan, Bob, Linda, Luis, Maria, David, Gina among others get into the groove was awesome

I miss the good 'ol days of The Street, but Gladys Knight will always be known as The Empress of Soul

    God Bless Her

  • No This is 1988.

  • I still have this on VHS! Love it!

  • Willie Dynamite is getting down!

  • @Largo3point0 shes now 66 years old god bless her

  • *thumbs up* Sesame Street when /it was AWESOME/. When it was loaded with great music and educational pieces. Not political child indoctrination and poor entertainment with talentless celebrities. The new theme makes the original composer roll in his grave.

  • Too bad I missed THIS! I had stopped watching two years earlier.

  • Lol so many memories, Sesame Street as a kid...Haven't heard this in a looong time.

  • OMG it's Barkley the Dog

  • Please. Please. Tell me this was released to the mainstream audience.

  • That kid at 1:15 *OWNS*

  • Gladys Knight, I envy You dear Americans such otherworldly talented performers !

  • We got taught some Soul on this day, when the EMPRESS OF SOUL GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS stopped by. Word for today is "SOUL".

  • I miss the old Sesame Street. Now they should just call it "The Elmo Show".

  • @snake8mouse I know this really pisses me off almost as much as the new hip hopped up themesong..

  • Is that uncle phil dancing round in the background!?

  • nah it aint uncle phil and im pissed they changed cookie monster

  • Boy with the 0 shirt is amazing.

  • I had this on VHS - I LOVE this version of the opening!!! Thanks for posting!

  • Good Video

  • elmo first apperd in 1974 and he was hyper

  • OMG! Elmo is old! It says 1986, and I was born in 1989. To this day, I still love that show. There's just something about it that still drives me to watch it. Plus Elmo is my all-time hommie on the show. I'd probably stop watching the show if they discontinued Elmo as a character.

  • Hey That's My Father on Trumpet. I'm So Proud!!! ! ! ! Cool. Happy B-Day Sesame Street.

  • yuo are liar, thar is no way ur father is played trumpet on sesame street. yuo r liar - i am disappoint.

  • Hey this was the year I was born!

  • I believe that Mr. MacIntosh is by Elmo and a few kids above the stairs at 1:07.

  • First of all, gladys knight and the pips are amazing. second, just watching that again gave me the chills

  • I like this version of the song very much in which you see Gladys Knight & The Pips, along with The Muppets dancing along to the Seame Street Theme.

  • That little boy with the '0' on his shirt is cute as a button! He's got the moves! Of course, he's got kids of his own by now!

Was that Mr. MacIntosh's cart I saw?

  • yep, it sure was! I remember Mr. MacIntosh! I actually still have this special on tape and I still watch it once in a while!

  • Gordon is ROLLIN back there! lol

  • WOW this is so cool. Gladys Knight and the pips rock. I wonder what year this is from? Sesame Street rules get rid of the new Sesame Street and bring back the old Sesame Street back to the UK on Channel 4. I would love to visit Sesame Street does anyone know where Sesame Street is and how to get there? Gladys wasn't on Plaza Sesamo singing this in mexican was she? Which part of Mexico is Plaza Sesamo filmed? If anyone has clips of Plaza Sesamo please upload them onto youtube. Gladys rocks.

  • in Mexican?? you mean Spanish

  • Babe: Sesame Street is located in the minds and hearts of those who created it and those who grew up with it and if people knew how to get there, they wouldn't be asking, "Can You Tell Me How To Get To Sesame Street", would they? But, all kidding aside, Sesame Street is officially in New York.

  • stuff like this is what made Sesame Street awesome! Bring back the old Sesame Street and get rid of Elmo!

  • Sesame Street Elmo Hoots Chip Kevin Clash Dip Richard Hunt Cookie Monster Bert Grover Frank Oz Big Bird Oscar Carroll Spinney Barkly Brian Muhel Grudgetta Pam Arcino 1980s

  • Another great post.

  • This is great, but Stevie's funk-o-delic '73 version is still by far the best.

  • I haven't heard that one before...is it on YouTube? i can't seem to find it

  • they could probably sing about a bar of soap and i'd like it! thanks largo for putting this up!
