  • I want that gun, & the watermelon!

  • Works great in S&W governor too. This is a lot better then the pdx 1 in my opinion. I don't know why the pdx1 scatters so bad.

  • Well done JQ

  • good review. thanks. S&W needs to hurry up and release a model of this with a rail on it.

  • Thanks for the review; just got mine today

  • got mine 12-23-11 fired 4 45acps it locked up cylinder would not open finally got it had to pull the moon clip and 4 spent shells out with pilers cyl will not stay shut and gun is still locked up called cust ser a total of 3 times still have not got my return shipping label as of 1-15-12 this is my 3rd s&m and my last its unsafe and they don,t care.....

  • I received this as a Christmas gift from my husband. Can't wait to get out to the range and try it out.

  • You may have sold me on this piece Jeff. For the longest time the Judge / Governor appeared as a gimmick to me and just plinker fodder, BUT your demonstration of .410 buckshot and buck-n-ball at defensive ranges AND the .45ACP moonclip capability may prove this revolver as a formidable defensive weapon. Well Done.

  • Best way yet to serve watermelon. I'll get a video of mine with a pumpkin

  • Lol'd at the watermelon comment after shooting it. Great review.

  • Can you do a review of the Glaser Safety Slug?

I heard you are a fun of the cartridge.

  • I am, both I and my brother Boge carry them regularly.

  • @Migs4000

    Err..fan*

Look forward to it. There is a ton of internet misconceptions about the bullet being about as useful as a sack of potatoes. They are pretty effective, just expensive.

  • Another great review and video. Thanks brother.

  • Dear Santa…

  • Absolutely love these videos keep em up!!

  • 410 slug, baby

  • I have been looking at the Governor.....this video showed me it is not good for carry conceal, but say a vehicle compact weapon, it would be perfect hidden by the seat. I also like the fact it's American, you can shoot .410 shotgun shells and after seeing the pattern of no. 4, it looks awesome! Great demo and way not to waste the watermelon! :-)

  • I just purchased this unit today. I'm looking forward to getting to the range.

  • I wonder what kinday velocities its getting with those long cylinders?

  • Was heavily considering the Judge but now after seeing this. I'm sold this will be my next purchase.

  • great stuff Jeff. The many loading options this weapon gives is really appealing to me and this review was extremely helpful in seeing what it's capable of. Thanks!

  • I can't say I'd eat watermelon contaminated with lead shot. Non-toxic or steel shot would be a different story.

  • The lead didn't dissolve in there, it just went on through.

  • Good to see you eat what you shoot.

  • good stuff man! keep em coming! I just got a Gov. and what a beauty!

  • Glad you didnt put the melon brain to waste 4:57

  • 4:30 "A face full of #4 shot would be very effective" .. serious as a heart attack and with a strait face , LOL, Love it!

  • I really like your reviews cause they are thorough... you also have a great taste in music! Who was playing the tune at the beginning and end of this vid?

  • Thanks - my brother Boge does the video production and handles the music. This video featured an original tune by Boge's pal Pete Huttlinger (petehuttlinger-dot-com) called "The Black Swan".

  • @Gunblastdotcom Cool! Thanks for the reply!

  • Once again, you've made a great video. I tried the taurus judge and it was very easy to shoot, but I like the specs on the governor. "Social Work"...love the way you put that!

  • Great-- now I need a new revolver AND more watermelon. :(

  • Great review and pics as well as video! I almost bought a "Public Defender", but CT has yet to make the laser grip for it...just the "Judge" model at present. +1 extra shot and 45acp is icing on the cake!

  • you think theyll make a model of this like the circuit judge?

  • I doubt it very much.

    Jeff

  • I want your beard

  • I am not done with it yet.

  • @Gunblastdotcom That is the GREATEST comment I have ever read!!!!

  • @radm427 Want the mans beard? That there is somethin a homersexual would say.

  • Man, I always wondered how someone with such a beastly beard cut a watermelon.

  • Keep doing what you do, your video on Taurus helped me decide on my public defender and I'm getting my Governor next. Thanks Jeff and keep'em coming

  • Well i'm sure "homeboy" would make a damn fine neighbor as opposed to some other "homeboys" walking around with their butts hanging out and their hats on any way but straight..just my opinion. Thanks for the best firearms videos to be found anywhere.

  • I like this guy. Got a totally good vibe. This review helped me decide to buy a Governor. I absolutely love the gun for too many reasons, too many uses. I've run about 1000 rounds and have a great feel for the ammo now. Made a video explanation I'd like to respond with. Federal 000 410, Speer gold dot 250g hp, then 45ACP +P 230grain HP.

  • For social work, #4 shot... Say hello to my little friend.

  • I have the Smith and Wesson Sigma series 9mm. Its ok for my first gun but I really would like this.

  • Well done vid...Thanks!

  • I do not know this homeboy fellow, but I think that I too have serious mental deficienies, but they have not yet been a problem for me. I pretty much have a good time.

    jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Nothing wrong with being a gun nut ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @comlax22 Like we really care what you think... Homeboy is just fine with me.

  • @comlax22 if u dont like the way someone looks dont look at him ,next time look at urself first a hole

  • cool vid. how does it compare to the taurus judge???

  • $586.00 in jackson,tn.

  • I am putting one in layaway this week. Own the judge as well.

  • Jeff, you're a boss.

  • Another nice feature about the Governor is that it can be used with ez moon clips that fit the model 625.

  • thanks alot now i want water melon!

  • I do not want to be on the receiving end of that bastard!!!

Anyways great gun and I enjoyed your video!!!

  • you make THE BEST gun reviews btw that 4shot is no joke.

  • Is the 45 Colt more powerful than the 45ACP? I know that Colt 45 will get you drunk.

  • Properly loaded, the 45 Colt has more power. However, there is a lot of 45 Colt ammo loaded to sissy levels for target shooting.

    jeff

  • I am glad you eat the game you shoot!

  • Thank you sir, I've been looking at 410 revolvers you do great reviews.

  • Great video.

  • Jeff, Couldn't find a gunblast.com facebook page, was wondering if yall plan on making one?

  • We are considering it, but have managed to resist so far.

  • need something like this for those ass hole coons that keep pestering my dogs :/

  • this gun seems to throw a better pattern than the taurus models I have seen buckshot patterns at the same distance that some of the pellets have missed the head completely I wonder if the barrell is bored differently in this gun

  • I wonder what kind of velocity that thing is getting with those long cylinders.

  • That was a very good video..clear, safe, and understandable! Keep up the good work! and always express the Right to Bear Arms and teach our youth how to be safe and user friendly!

  • @DavieTheGreat he even eat the wathermelon, so nothing has been wasted XP

    Perfect even uner that aspect!

  • Can you believe that human targets are illegal in MA?

  • Course in Commifornia, we can't have a good gun like that.

  • Jeff, I watch you and your peers on youtube. I really like the plain, basic way you present the guns and the loads with their results. I enjoy watching you on your channel. Thanks for taking your time to share your passion. I bet your Grand kids just love coming over to your house just as much as you love seeing them.

  • Thank you for the kind words.

    jeff

  • Its KipKay's dad!!

  • I have no idea who KipKay is, and I'm fairly certain I'm not his/her dad.

  • @Gunblastdotcom HA! yeah i was just messing man. He has a long white beard like you. Just look him up on here. He does like hacking videos and stuff. They are really good. Oh and great review by the way!

  • @Gunblastdotcom Lol the guy has a channel on Youtube here, look him up it is an AWESOME channel.

  • jeff is this any better than the judge..

  • Not necessarily better, just another good choice.

    jeff

  • Lots of snakes in social work....love it! marc

  • Most versatile handgun ever! I would probably load it with 45 colt but I could see the advantages to haveing the buckshot. I am usually spot on with my first hit at the gun range when I try quick double-taps. My second hits are never quite where I want them to be but still very good. I imagine a accuratly placed 45 colt slug followed immediatly by buckshot in double-tap succesion would do a bad guy in.

  • Dude trim the rat tails off ur face +_+

  • Which came first, the Taurus Judge or the S&W?

  • Taurus Judge.

  • Great vid! Forgive my ignorance but with regards to strength is the alloy on this gun as strong as stainless steel? And does it rust?

  • Aluminum alloy, even with Scandium, is not as strong as stainless steel, but it is much lighter, and plenty strong for a handgun. It will never rust.

    Jeff

  • Now that is a "tasty" revolver!

  • thats what im talkin about!

  • HaHaHaHa for social work

  • So you can use .45 auto rim and you dont have to use the moon clips. atleast thats how it is for the older s&w .45 acp revolver

  • No, the Governor doesn't work for Auto Rim. I tried it, and the cylinder won't close.

  • this is my wife's pistol, one of the few revolver's i've ever had "special feelings" about, i'm actually jealous, ill have to get one for myself

  • I put 150 rounds of every flavour thru my new governor. It's a blast to shoot!

  • Jeff, I love the opening music you always have. Thanks for the review. That thing did NASTY to the melon, you don't need a knife to eat it though...

  • cool!

  • Does that have a choke in it. Because it looks like it.

  • It has no choke.

    Jeff

  • do they make a longer barreled version? like 4 inch?

  • So far, this is the only barrel length available.

    Jeff

  • How is the accuracy on the .45 ACP ? I read some firearm forums where some "armchair experts" debated the accuracy without ever firing this gun.

  • Look at the review on Gunblast for details about that.

    Jeff

  • i may trade my judge in for one of these!

  • Any lead in that watermelon?

  • No more than usual.

  • I wish you were my uncle.

  • also does this smith and wesson governor shoot a 3 inch shotgun or the 2 and something inch shells?

  • Two and one-half inch shells only.

    Jeff

  • but the smith and wesson has a hammer which would make it unsafe to carry compared to the taurus defender. My question is does the taurus defender take 45 acp as well?

  • They each have a hammer, and the Taurus does not fire 45 ACP.

    Jeff

  • Glad it was tasty watermelon and not some big guys head n innards. I do believe if the person had a head that size n a body to match I would probably go the other way. Nice to know those loads are so effective. I gotta look into that S&W for the wife!

  • Have you ever tested any of the 410 buck loads against any 10% ordnance gelatine? Also, what was the governors accuracy with the .45 acp and .45 LC loads? TIA for the answer.

  • You have one of if not the best channels on youtube sir. I thoroughly enjoy your no bull reviews and the straight get to the point video. I also love the intros and ending music, the best i've seen on here. Keep on posting ...

  • lol I was going to say that would of been a waist of a watermelon but you went right for it.

  • Now that is how you slice watermelon

  • Which would you prefer Jeff? the smith or the taurus. They both look about the same.

  • Hard for me to choose. The Taurus Public Defender is small and lighter, but the S&W holds more ammo and is more versatile. I like both, and will probably keep both.

    Jeff

  • I want one of these, I'd much rather have an S&W than a Taurus. I really like the ability to use .45 ACP in it too. I read your article on this on your website but didn't see the info I really wanted. Can you some chronographing with this using some .45 ACP +P and maybe some .45 LC Hornady Leverevolution. I'd like to know how much evergy is lost/gained with a long cylinder and short barrel vs. something like a 4" S&W 625.

  • Thanks again fora most excellent review- nice shooting gun!

  • Handy way to cut up a melon.

  • I think I speak for most Big Bore Fans when I ask You this Jeff. When will Taurus and S&W take a .460 S&W Mag., and make it a 3IN .410/.45Colt/.454 Cassul/.460 S&W Mag., .45ACP, and .45 GAP Revolver? I may be Crazy/Paranoid, But it seems to Me that such a wide range of Ammunition choices would make this Gun THE ideal Defence Gun. From the middle of NYC to Alaska, nothing could stand in Your way.

  • @cuda408 One more question. If You could thread the Barrel on one of these Guns, and add a Choke/Barrel Extension with Rifleing cut in the opposite direction (Or just Straight forward) of the Rifleing in the Barrel. Would it stop the Rotation of the Shot from the .410 Shells? I would love to have the Revolving Carbine, but the Shot Shells scatter so much that I think it would keep it from being a true "All Game" Carbine. By "All Game" I mean Squirrel to Deer (.45 Colt +P Loads of Course).

  • It is not built to withstand the pressure of the 460.

    Jeff

  • @cuda408 I wasn't asking if this Revolver in particular could fire .460 S&W Mag. I was aking if You had Heard of a Company that was going to make a .460/ 3In .410 Revolver that could also fire .45ACP/GAP with Moon Clips. I'm just curious.

  • Jeff: Cool gun. I want one of these on the night stand and when backpacking. I thought I watch your site new postings but da*m I'm the 99th! Good work man!

  • lol, id help ya clean up that watermelon....

  • 45 ACP is LESS expenive. That's it I'm moving to your hometown

  • Interesting since it adds the moon clip capability as a weapon or three loads are made possible in effect. PBX I have found good in a Stoeger side by side 410. Key is distance from target determines which load is most effective.

  • Nice video, thanks. I like the Governor a lot. After seeing the image of the exploding watermelon on your website I had to click through to watch this video. I think that human silhouette target is illegal in the People's Republik of Kalifornia... so glad I no longer live there.

  • looks like a good bedside protector ...right next to the love potions and TV remote

  • Where's that rebel cap ? Wear it with pride !

  • Perhaps they should promote this as a melon slicer aswell.

  • Your most delicious review yet. Thx!

  • 2 legged snakes!

  • Hey you actually shot it before reviewing it. I remember a fella here on youtube his name is nutn something he rips on the judge for 15 minutes without even shooting it first. He whines about what he heard in forums. Well done these things are very cool. Some people call them novelty guns, but it's a neat novelty!

  • We shoot every gun that we can, as often as we can. I know that it is done, but I see not point in reviewing a gun without shooting it.

    jeff

  • Fun video Jeff! This was one of my favorite ones yet. I really enjoy the slightly longer format of some recent vids. The watermelon blast and eat was a classic finish bud!

  • Thank you for the excellent review. Glad that you enjoyed the watermelon at the end!

  • Got to handle one of these last week.. they're awesome... and Jeff, you kick ass.. Thanks for all the great reviews

  • Great review, Thanks for sharing.

  • Can you do a review on the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red-Dot Sight, I want to pick one up for my 870, but I'm really debating on it.

  • I have not tried that one, and do not have one here. Have you looked at the Trijicon and Leupold small red-dot sights?

    Jeff

  • Comment removed

  • Great review keep up the good work

  • Will it handle .45 magnum+p or .454 casull?

  • +P, yes - Magnum / Casull, no.

  • @Gunblastdotcom Sounds like a sweet piece. Thanx for the input.

  • This is superior to the Judge imo...but still a pretty meh revolver. Mixing rounds that are meant to be fired in a rifled barrel and shotgun rounds is just not a very good idea.

  • Smith giving taruas a taste of their own design thieving medication.

  • Dawgonnint, now I'm craving watermelon....thanks Jeff.

  • Excellent review! I know many people like the Judge, and I'm not surprized that S&W would provide their version for that growing market, but to me, I still think it's more novelty than anything else.

  • Ever since hickok45 demonstrated the accuracy of 000 buck from these kind of guns, I've been pretty surprised and shocked by the guns. Before I dismissed them as a novel snake gun. I suppose 000 buck flattens and engages the rifling, making a sectioned bore sized slug In any case these kind of guns are about the only way to get a compact and light 45LC. The S&W is priced pretty reasonably too, I may consider one if it pops up used.

  • I like how you kept the watermelon calm by covering his ears.

  • LOL. I love how he eats the watermelon like R. Lee ermey

  • Great video. What's the handgun of your preference? Thanks.

  • I like lots of handguns, and the preference changes with the need at hand.

    jeff

  • Glad to see somebody rip off Taurus for a change. In this case, it seems, the copy is better than the original. Honestly just the name Smith and Wesson gives me more confidence than Taurus. My past experience with Taurus made me never buy another after my PT 99 in 87'.

  • Nice informative review. Looks like Taurus finally has competition.

  • Jeff, I have the Poly Public Defender and the stainless Judge.....do you feel that in all honesty that the Governor is substantially a better version of this type revolver?

  • Depends upon your needs. The S&W holds one more round, which may or may not be needed. You are pretty well-armed with the Tauri.

    jeff

  • Jeff which you thinks its better for personal defense. S&W Governor or Taurus Judge?

  • Either will shoot the same ammo, with the added advantage that the S&W will shoot 45 ACP. Also, it has a one-shot capacity advantage.

    Jeff

  • Yet another great review, Thanks!

  • hahaha - Thumbs up for eating the watermelon!

  • what about the 454 cas ,,too much pressure prob,,,

  • It will not fire 454.

    jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom are the 45 rounds accurate in these? i know that there is room where the bullet has to pass before it hits the rifling so i wasnt sure. also, does the buckshot screw up the rifling. I know you shouldnt use buck or bird in a rifled slug barrel.

  • Buckshot and birdshot both have a shot wad that keeps the shot from touching the bore, preventing leading. The 45 ammo is reasonably accurate for close range social work, but I prefer greater accuracy for hunting.

    Jeff

  • jeff, you made me go out and get some watermelon after that!nice pistol too!

  • Would be really cool if you did a video about the ZM LR300. :D
