@imanuglyfrog You didn't get what I meant. Elvis' 4th film, KING CREOLE, was based on Harold Robbins' novel, A STONE FOR DANNY FISHER. At first, the film was supposed to be named after the novel, or simply DANNY. Since they changed their mind, the song DANNY, first recorded by Elvis, was eliminated from the soundtrack and it remained unreleased for years. Wilde recorded it, singing it even better than Elvis. But best version ever is by Conway Twitty as LONELY BLUE BOY.
@ENACODNOM Marty is in fact doing a better version, I agree with you, and so is Conway Twitty, but neither is necessarily singing it better than Elvis. The arrangements, guitar licks, backing singers, everything about the production of the two versions being mentioned here is much better than in Elvis' , which as everyone knows sounds like a work in progress or a simple demo record for someone else to record. But neither Marty or Conway hit that last note the way Elvis does. Check it out
@pulmon66 I'm an Elvis fan since 1957, but I always surmount my fanaticism and keep my ears and mind open. The problem with his original version of DANNY is that he sang it in early Sun Records style, not very mature and almost childishly, and that's probably one of the reasons it was kept out of the film's soundtrack. In fact, Conway Twitty sings it more Elvisly like than The King himself, just like Elvis was singing most of his ballads in the second half of the Fifties. Cheerio!
marty's is the best version to me.
