You dont have to be a giant or hard tackler to be a defensive midfielder. You just need to have the ability to control the midfield areas and this guy certainly does that from this footage. Wether or not he could do it at the pace of the Prem is another matter but another possibility to consider is this guy is being lined up to potentially take over from Fabregas who could still yet go back to Spain. I hope not but you never know.
