...while fast track pro is usb 1.1, fast track ultra is 2.0. It didn't me long to see that the FTP is a really basic unit and so I ditched it and upped to the FTU which is much better. FTU is compact, and has midi and has way more cool tricks than than the UX8. The ONLY thing that disappoints me about the FTU, pisses me off even, is that the spdif in counts for 2 of the 8 simultaneous ins, so in reality, only 6 inputs at a time unless you've got spdif kit.
@evilsnakes1 I have a POD X3 Live and i use a lot of VSTi and FX as well, i use some of TRacks FX when mixing things and i don't have any latency issues. I have a really good PC though...
@evilsnakes1 I thought the FTP was great until i realized it was only usb 1.1, which only gave me up to 48000 Hz record and monitor. It was capable of recording in 96000 Hz or playing back at 96000Hz but not both at the same time which in my opinion makes it usless to use those higher settings. unless you want to keep switching back and forth. Thats why i switched to the UX8. I also considered the FTU but it was a little more than i wanted to pay at the time.
I just ordered one of these from Gear Tree. They have it for a pretty decent price brand new. BTW are there any midi to USB convertor you might suggest. I tried the M-Audio USB Uno 1X1 MIDI Interface & that didn't work out very well.
thank you. very helpful. im deciding in between a ux2 and that m audio for recording guitar and im leaning the ux2's way. so not a ux8 but nevertheless, this video helped a lot.
@PhilxEulogyx It should come with a free program called gearbox, which is a good amp simulator. or you can download it for free on the line 6 website.
@BrentThePianoGuy so there is no cd or serial key that i need to access the software? on ebay i only see the device itself for sale, says nothing about any software

2...
ux8 is also undeniably known for latency issues. it's fine when running through the pod software, but through a daw's vst it is a poor performer.

@rgm232 I dont know much about usb to midi, you'll probably have to get seperate hardware for your midi setup. thats all i can suggest.

If I buy the device alone, does the UX8 come with a decent amount of tones for the guitar or do you have to purchase them separately?

PhilxEulogyx 10 months ago
@PhilxEulogyx no you dont need a key. as long as you have the hardware(toneport ux8) the software (gearbox) will work with it no problem.
