Michael Schumacher being a perfect example? HE is not Bloodthirsty like LOEB IS, I wish opportunities will open up for Loeb and you will see my dear friend Mr.Loeb will surprise you all!!! He gave up his World rally car for an F1 is he dumb at this point or does he really think he can takes on Hamilton and whoever thinks is good enough.
Loeb a le mérite de s'être fait tout seul ! Prost Schumi Sordo Senna et bien d'autre ont débuter très tôt sur kart. Seb n'a pas eu cette opportunité !
Loeb would make an excellent F1 driver, not only has he set very good lap times in the RB4 but also finished 2nd in the Le Mans 24h race for Peugot and won the Race of Champions multiple times. You know besides from being the greatest rally driver of all time with his currently 6th consecutive (nearly 7th) world champion title.
OMfG what are you all arguing about? Rally guy beating F1 guys no way now can you get those F1 guys to beat him on rally circuit? I don't think so. Some of you guys are so dumb. But I'm sure with little practice on both side they can become pretty competitive the are all talented drivers.
Of course he's much slower than the usual F1 guys. whats there to argue about? he hasnt done any tests before and he couldnt possibly have beaten them...
I would tend to agree with rdtli, with one exception. Valentino Rossi....any guy who races on 2 wheels (soon to be 7 time world champ) and can finish in the top 10 in a WRC event using a non-works car....and also test F1 and be within a second of Schumie's time. That is a monster.....and probably the fastest man alive.
Yeah, so far he is the only driver to be champion both on 2 wheels and 4. Although I would argue Surtees was a better motorcycle rider. His 1964 title in F1 was a bit lucky too.
Loeb's chance of ever making an F1 start is gone, he's 36 and though still capable of world titles, is too old for any F1 outfit to seriously consider taking on as a rookie, as by the time he had acquired any meaningful expierience he would be beginning to gradually lose his speed
@monaro632 Lose his speed? what are you a FreakShow Race car driver never lose it speed it's all about how bad you really want to WIN the race. You and only you can decide if you want to push this F1 to the limit and take all the risks.
@TerminatorSony Dude ive been a racing driver for many years now and yes as you age and your reaction speed and reflexes begin to drop off a little you do lose some speed, its only natural and you cant avoid it, there is a massive difference between just driving an F1 car and actually RACING it, and thats where it will show, Michael Schumacher being a perfect example
It a good jump for Loeb's career to go to F1 as it is rumoured he is going to the RedBull F1 Team after this WRC season, but I will miss him in Rally. I don't blame him for wanting to try something new as he has done everything possible in the WRC. Read his Bio, he has been a winner all his life, not just in Rally.
no mate..... in every kind of motorsport.... the rally world champion is the fastest on earth ..... and loeb is the most complete driver ever,.... even more than senna... and schumacher... or clark..... the WRC is the most demanding motorsport on earth ... the most technical ... so loeb is a fuckin monster... period
To me Sebastian Loeb is the Rocky Marciano of wrc. Marciano beat Joe Louis who way past his prime, and defended his boxing title in an era which most believe was void of any top class challengers. As Marciano retired a whole new batch of great champions arrived. The 60's and 70's were way tougher.
In the 90's WRC had plenty of competitive manafacturers, and top drivers like Sainz, Kankkunen, McRae, Makinen, Auriol and Burns.
Since the 70's has Ford ever produced a top car in WRC?
Markku Alen won 796 stages (still the record) in 129 starts. Loeb has 725 stage wins in 136 starts.
Now, Alen raced in from the 70's to the 90's and won with RWD cars, mid-engined Lancias, Group B monsters, 4WD WRC etc. That diversity over that extended period of time, means a heck of lot more than a guy who only ever raced for the same dominant manafacturer (with Ford as the only competition) in an era with little opposition.
@McLarenMercedes that s the same question evrybody used to do when valentino raced for honda...and of course it s a true question and you re right ...but i think loeb will be the best in any kind of machine he would be given to drive...about the diversity you re right too ...but ...you have to consider that there are other drivers that heve the same ´´easy´´ way to achieve the numbers loeb achieve till now and did not make it...if you compare ´´eras´´ you will probably will be misunderstood ..
@McLarenMercedes - I think Loeb would still win in a Ford. And with Hirvonen, Latvala, Ogier and now Peter Solberg making a comeback, he has some good competition. And in his early days in the wrc, you still had Subaru, Mitsubishi and Peugeot which were also very good cars. It's a shame to see there gone now though.
@McLarenMercedes In that period a rally have a lot more SS than now. I respect Markku Allen, but the world titles and percentage of wins/starts tell us another story.
Racing lines are almost universally the same. Outside-inside(apex)-outside. This does not distinguish him from any other race car driver whether it is F1, rally, DTM, autcross, or gokart.
No I think your 'point' was just another attack on Lewis Hamilton, seeing as how you singled him out. I don't think any F1 driver (bar Kimi, Mika, and Heikki) could easily make the jump to Rally Racing.
I'm not an F1 fan. I don't follow the sport closely.
My point was that it'd be easier for the best driver in WRC to move to a sealed surface series like F1 than it would for the best driver in F1 to succeed in WRC, especially because current WRC drivers already spend 4-5 weekends a season driving on competitive tarmac.
well, I apologize if I came of that way, but everytime Lewis Hamilton's name is mentioned it is either positive or negative (with negative remarks being unfairly racial a lot of the time). But there is a rumor that Kimi Raikkonen (the 2007 F1 champ), may be looking to jump into WRC after he is done with F1, and Finnish drivers seem to be the best at the sport (from what I understand).
Traditionally, Finns do dominate WRC. The last 5 years have been anomalies as Loeb has completely obliterated the competition, but Scandinavian drivers are always represented in the top 5 every season.
well, I think every form of motorsport sees someone take over despite it being out of the ordinary. Usually, English drivers dominate F1 but Michael Schumacher (GERMANY) won the championship 5 times in a row. I'm glad we were able to have this discussion without conflict, as that seems to be how most people feel on youtube.
