They use his abuse of drugs as an excuse to fire him. Steven didn't write songs but he still took credits for AFD and LIES. Probably it wasn't a problem at the beginning, but after the band got huge, Axl,Slash Duff and Izzy (or their manager) realized they were going to lose millions because of him. I know it's sad but Matt Sorum was a lot cheaper.

@erniethepoose according to adler he wasn't shown the material of down on the farm and thought they were playing their classics because he wasn't shown the setlist his playing on civil war was note for note

@drummerhopeful emm no it wasnt note for note, listen closely at 2mins 58, then he slows down further at 5mins 20secs then speeds up at 5mins 55secs then totally fucks it up at 6mins 53secs until 7mins. Apart from that he was note for note :)
