  • Nice outfit jack ass

  • Bla, ba bla bla I like it

  • Thermin + mcintosh amp = eargasm

  • Hello Jon, I remember you from ashville 98'. Do you happen to know what a 91(those very first instruments big briar made) is worth ? See at Moogfest ? San Diego Thanks

  • @piperofsimms hard to say what a 91 is worth. You should ask at thereminworld.

  • Excellent playing - I just love your thousand-yard stare into the camera as you play it.

  • Fantastic stuff, the Theremin rools

  • @PreviousGod - Yes, all you have to do is stand on the other side and play it with the correct hand placements

  • love this video. dug it up again... and still cant get over that shiny jacket i want one dammit!!!

  • Charlie Brown adults are actually trombones with mutes on the end.

  • Adults from Charlie Brown? Anyone else here it?

  • Fabulous!

  • That is how charlie brown's teacher sings..I think?

  • you look so constapated

  • baba wawa

  • Freakey goodness!

  • I have no idea what got me searching for theremin's but i like it, secretly though wouldn't tell my friends.

  • Admittedly, while this instrument is cool (I could see myself waving my hands around creating sound effects), I don't see it as very musical. It sounds like the adults in the Charlie Brown cartoons, if they were in a choir.

  • All I hear is the adults from The Peanuts talking..

  • It takes a special kind of nerd

  • i dont know whay but it makes me laugh and happy:):)

  • wawawawa

  • This is awesome. Some dude that looks like Bob Sagat giving me tips on how to play the theromin. You need this in your life.

  • You are cool man, keep on having fun.

  • sounded like my nan when we put her in the institute..

  • more talking and less playing....oh wait.....

  • charlie browns parents singing

  • Do they produce left-handed and right-handed theremins? Are you left-handed anyway? Couse I'm right handed and see it more difficult to play it having in mind, that, not the closer to the antenna the sound will be higher, but it's on the left side, so are the higher sounds, inversely to most instruments, and I think I would have some problems with coordinating the right pitch ;P

  • @PreviousGod - Yes, I am playing a left-handed instrument. Typically, a thereminist will want to use their dominant hand to control pitch, since it requires incredibly precise motor control.

  • wah wah wah

  • hey man, cool outfit.

  • oh my god! is that DONALD DUCK!?!?!? really, though, good job.

  • sounds like peter griffin laughing

  • "The Adults of Charlie Brown Sing Video Killed The Radio Star"

  • They remind me of a trombone lol

  • wow nice man. I personally know how extremely difficult it is to play the theremin in tune and u do a great job on a vocal part that jumps around so freaking much :P

  • funny

  • terrible, absolutely terrible

  • so how/do you "tounge" with the Theremin.

  • I've been looking up the theremin tonight and previously and I get irritated at people leaving ignorant comments about the instrument but . . . I have to say it: Charlie Brown's teacher is singing "Video Killed the Radio Star"!

But you sounded great this time around . . . 4 years ago it seems. I hope you and the Lothars are still together and doing well, man!

  • hahahahah dude, has nobody noticed what he's wearing?

  • I can't believe you spent all that time making the backing track for THIS. :P

  • it must have been hard to keep a straight face haha.

  • BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • ugh...this is awful. why would anyone choose to listen to this???

  • sounds like the adults in charlie brown XD

  • @killercreampuff1234 lol it does too

  • It sounds like an upset cat.

  • nice place ya got here. the theremin is really cool too

  • Ever take any college-level music theory courses?Just wondering,as you seem intellectually curious. The trouble with the theremin,is that it's not very self-sustaining,in my humble opinion................Great job with piece and video...

  • Sounds like Charlie Brown. You know, how they talk on the phone? WAHHH WAHH WAHH WAHHHHH

  • @Sethekk11 Have you done this to every video?!

  • @xfallenxbeliefx Just about. =D

  • hah awesome!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHHA

  • I love this! Got a theremin last winter but didnt work out,Maybe Ill get a Moog...

  • Make some dubstep with this thing!

  • Hmm, playing 'normal' instruments are difficult by themselves. This takes a different kind of accuracy to play properly. Excellent job, it is very nearly perfect. Or as close as one can get without an actual singer lol. I wouldn't mind learning this if only to annoy my neighbors :)

  • hahaha is like the teacher voice from charly brown is singing

  • wow, that was sad XD

  • how does he does different sounds???? like the BLAH and the other sound??? :S

  • @rodro91 Effect boxes. I'm using a Moogerfooger MF-101 low pass filter to create the "wah-wah" effect and the MF-102 ring modulator for the noisy sound at the end of the bridge.

  • @Lothars Yippy Kai Yay, MoogerFooger.

  • @Lothars how can I get those effect boxes?

  • @ladidayy Lots of music shops have them. Or just search eBay for Moogerfooger MF-101 low pass filter and MF-102 ring modulator.

  • I absolutely adore your jacket and trousers as well as your playing!! :D

  • NAA NAA

  • i want one....

  • Is it possible to change the voice of the theremin? Because, from what i have heard the theremin sounds like a sad and weird dolphin or dark voiced baby.

  • the signal it produces is electronic... theoretically it can be manipulated in any way that a guitar can... so it can sound like anything, watch the roland JC-120 video to see what im getting at, they use a rolad signal processor to make the guitars into pianos/sax whatever :)

hope this has been helpful... but i do think it would sound odd, since the modulations of a theremin do make it sound like a really stoned guy at a family wedding on the kareoke! :D

  • you're a fuckin' legend

and that thing is sick as fuck

and you chose the best song to do a rendition of

    and that jacket is prime

  • I wonder what Benjamin Franklin would think if he saw this. Considering he himself invented a rarely used instrument himself.

  • I really hate idiots thats so judgemental!

  • bla bla bla bla blaaaa

    bla bla bla bla

    bla bla bla blaa blaaaa

    XD

  • sweet bachelor pad bro

  • @vikingbush - Hard as it may be to believe, I' m happily married.

  • okay? what does that have to do with anything?

  • lawl nevermind i forgot my other comment :D

  • @Lothars I believe it. For a certain type of awesome and understanding woman, you're a hell of a catch.

  • Please more respect for the Moog...Please listen the italian band Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) in the song "Impressioni di Settembre" and more...

  • lmao that thing sound like the parents in charlie brown and his face is just to serious looking xD

  • DUDE, i bet thats how they made the parents talk sound!!! ima look it up

  • Less talk, more rock!

  • is this the instrument used in the star trek series song?

  • @Olebruc Nope, in the original Star Trek theme, they used a real operatic soprano as the vocalist. No theremin. (There is a video of what a theremin would sound like in the theme here on YouTube though.)

  • lol thats fantastic

  • pitch a little testy at times

  • Man you'd have to be a robot or somethin to play this instrument perfect. But like take 1, great job. Looks hard as hell.

  • wa-wa-wa-waa wa

  • muahahaha lol :D

  • lol it sounds like it's saying blah blah blah...

  • Funny Outfit, Partner :) But great sound

  • is the theremin itself that is making the lalala parts?

  • yepp

  • I believe so.

  • i love this song.... it is on my myspace.......

  • you sir are awesome

  • It's the teachers and adults from the Peanuts!

  • terrific!!!

  • the begining sounds like a fat retardid lady... in a good way =}

  • thats cool ... :)

  • I love this man! :*

  • No. Shut up. Theremins are awesome.

  • thats so creepy in a cool way!!! haha

  • Out of tune-ness killed the radio star actually. He's just not telling the whole truth.

  • that's partly why the instrument hasn't caught on as much as one thought it could -- it's impossibly difficult to get in tune because your hand is floating in the middle of nowhere (compare to another continuous instrument such as the violin)

  • who said it was easy it took me about a month to learn it

  • Any bachelor can play a Theremin! Just like M.P. and her five daughters!

  • really, it's simple! It works on vibrations... But depends electric or acoustic?

  • You connect this to a Wah Pedal? Or what pedal?

  • none, he just started the backing track with his foot

  • this guy is good but he needs to harden the playing some more before playing with vibrato

  • Let's see you play it.

  • maybe. Its obvious he doesn't have is flow on his talent completely down. That only comes with time and practice and striving for perfection and most of all- having a good time.

  • 3.17 is he about to cry?!

  • lol funny video m8ty well done.

  • killer instrument. i can only imagine the possibilities an industrial artist could exploit with a thing like that. Not to mention live, imagine Ogre in his Skinny Puppy days rockin out on one of those

  • You look too tight, loosen up abit, jeez.

Kinda cool thing though, first time i was introduced to this personally was by Bill Bailey.

  • lol! fail at the start, good job tho.... i know i couldn't do that as good as you anyway........

  • i heard you can use the theremin to speak to whales! haha jk

  • lyrics blablablablablablablablablablablablablabla (repeat)

or in other words the teachers at charlie brown's school all singing

  • Hahahaa, you're awesome.

  • You're my hero. I need someone to teach me to play the theremin.

  • Thanks a lot man.. is good.. and good explaination.

  • i like the shiny pants

  • Great job on the song. Even though a few of the notes were a bit off, it didn't hurt the classic 80s tune. Always loved the Theremin sounds. Very cool to hear a song performed by it.

  • i had never heard of this instrument until this day,and to think it has existed and been used for so long.

looks like fun to play but probably not easy to master.

  • lol trust me, it is the hardest instrument ever lol, had a shot of one and all i could manage was the sci-fi noises, really hard to judge distance when your not touching anything...

  • IMPRESSIONANT !! =O

  • you're too much talking!!

  • haha, sounds like someone is screaming "blablablabla" in the background

  • rofl! it also sounds like sounds like a cat or a little baby.

  • Yeah, clearly "blablablablabla"! Rofl.

Nice playing and a great instrument, btw!

  • Haha I hear the blahblahblah

That's funny. I love the Theremin

  • I hear wahwahwahwahwah.

But I think that helps add to its character

  • You look like bob saget.

  • Theremin is tied with singing Tesla coils for my favourite instrument.

  • Look at the concentration in his face

  • you try playing something decent sounding on a theremin without concentrating hard lol

  • cool :)

  • dude.. you are so white......

  • Nice.

But again, what's with the jacket/coat thingy? You got the future look going on ;) :L

But I'd love to be able to play one of those :D

  • Theremin = Cool

  • thats cool!!...how much it cost?!!

but whats up with your clothes man!!?...so futuristic look-a-like!!

  • "Sounds like a duck and a guy farting...

    ...

    I Love it! "

    hahahahaha

  • .....I'm sorry........I can't leave this alone! Hahahaaaa, just another thought..........could you imagine setting this up in a karoke bar! boowaHahaaaaaaa! OMG-hearing this done by 54 drunks in 3 hours! Oh, I am having fun. G'night.

  • Oh look out! Comming soon to Wii!!! Moog huh? I am surprised that there is room in today's world for analog musical synth equipment. (is this something rather new or just didn't catch on?) Very kewl and very impressed. :)

  • thats cool !! it must be so much hard workin in it :) but its lovely

  • I love your coat

  • I loved was smiling the whole time. You described it perfectly:)

  • that is too cool

  • Farther, not further.

  • Oh, come on, just admit it!

You just had two people off-camera going "da-Bah-Bah-dah"

    Good job, sounds great.

  • How do you differentiate between the two different sounds I'm hearing? is there a foot pedal or something? one kind of sounds like "wah wah wah" and the other sounds more like a cartoony violin.

  • Yes, there are foot pedals. I'm using a Moogerfooger MF-101 low pass filter to create the "wah-wah" effect and the MF-102 ring modulator for the noisy sound at the end of the bridge.

  • my aren't you shiny and... metalic

  • high notes sound like peter griffin's laugh

  • I think you have discovered a new type of torture.

Maybe the gov't can try it out on the detainees at Guantanomo.

  • Dude, keep up the playing...a few mistakes, but that's no easy instrument, and all around great job.

  • This is the business, I'm digging it man!

  • where do you get theremins, and what do they cost on average?

  • The one I'm playing in this video is a pretty fancy one and costs over $1,000, but you can get a really good theremin for a few hundred. Visit one of the "buy a theremin" links in the right-hand column of my blog (linked in the video description above).

  • nice couch

  • Sounds like the teacher from Charlie Brown

  • it sounds like when a cat is pissed off and he makes that voice that is also famous for one cat saying "oh long john... oh long johnson" HILARIOUS!!

  • you look like you're about to burst into tears any second

  • yeah he does :D ^^

  • sounds like Ike from South Park. BUH BUH BUH

  • i like the first one better but i like this one to

on the fist in one part it sounded like a cat was dieing

  • is that a high end theremin? can a cheaper moog theremin do the job?

  • Yes and yes.

  • HOYL COCK THAT IS SO AWESOME

  • this is so amazing. 1919, ppl.

  • No its 1919 buddy

  • no ur both wrong 1918

  • WRONG! 1919 SON!
